Mergen Build Question

I’m planning on making a Mergen using the path A1 > R2 > S3 >Fa1 > M
My reasoning is that the missile bonus from Ranger will help future proof my build and bring more utility to the table than higher Multishot or even Double. Building for Scout since I want to start farming whenever I’m not lazy.
Some concerns with my build are:

  • Can’t kill bosses as efficiently without lvl 15 Multishot
  • Is Barrage a sufficient replacement for Double Shot?
  • Is the +15% missile damage even worth it?

Ranger C2 doesn’t really provide anything notable. It’s far more pertinent to take Archer C2 for Swift Step’s bonus critical rate, and a Multishot that isn’t agitating to charge.

You probably want Archer 2 over ranger 2 IMO
you still get 10% steady aim, but now you also get 25% crit rate stat bonus from swift step

So A2 > R1 would be a better build path in your opinion? That makes sense to me, considering the 5% loss isn’t too big of a difference. Do you think that Barrage is a viable replacement for Double Shot in that case?

my view here may be biased since I only made an archer to farm 130 dungeon, but anyway:

I honestly dont like how barrage works, it’s like shotgun, very weak without feint and monsters in front meatshield those that are behind, it’s a good skill for bursting though.

I really regret not taking Archer 3 to farm 130 dungeon, twin arrows is very good for killing off leftover solo monsters.

forgot to add: outside of farming instances ranger 1 doesn’t seem to be bad, but I already gave a warning anyway that it falls off hard without feint and you have to fire it in a shotgun manner

I actually prefer shotgun-type skills when using projectiles, though obviously there are drawbacks since archers are squishy. Even though it falls off real hard, doesn’t Twin Arrows suffer from similar issues, or does the spammability really compensate for it?
My logic is that 10% missile damage > any minor inconvenience that taking R1 over A3 would otherwise impose on me. I’ll definitely go at least A2 though, since Swift Step crit chance was something I overlooked and definitely don’t want to miss out on.

My main issue with barrage is that I have to uncomfortably position myself due to how barrage works, this actually wastes my time, unlike twin arrows where I could carelessly fire whenever wherever due to low cooldown+several charges

but here’s the catch (and which should be your final decision in choosing)
outside of twin arrows / barrage

  • Ranger gives you more advantage because you already have 100% uptime on swift step and already got the attribute for it
  • Archer 3 gives you longer swift step+slightly better evasion, you don’t have to recast it several times

So outside of farming dungeons Ranger isn’t really bad, it’s just that you’ll rarely use barrage later on. also on R8 it probably won’t matter so go ahead with ranger

I got an archer 3 scout 3 cannoneer, my 145 dungeon clear time is about 15 minutes, archer 3 is a great build and very future proof with falconer multi shot+ circling is great
i took cannoneer because i like the class better,
now the difference between archer 3 and archer 2 ranger 1 isn’t huge, don’t sweat it
i liked archer 3 better, some like archer 2 ranger 1 better, matter of preference imo, not very critical.
Just please don’t take rogue at rank 7, and don’t build full str. High dex with swift step is the preferred stat allocation for this build imo, because item transcendence scales great with crits, and so does split arrow.

Thanks for the input. I’m set on A2 > R1 for this build path, as I feel the 10% missile damage will be worth it over A3 skills as I approach end-game.

Yeah, I love having it as it applies to Flare Shot as well. I’m doing the iDreamy variant so 10% to both Flare Shots and whatever skills I’m spamming for burst (Feint+Barrage is great for this) all at once is a thing of beauty and I can’t possibly wrap my head around how twin arrows could compare, but I’ve never played the A3 variant so maybe I’m wrong!

It’s more spammable and can be used at max range, plus its CD is like half of what Barrage is, so I can see where the love comes from. I still feel that in the end, 10% extra missile damage will help out anything from rank 8 and beyond, so I feel this is the safest build to go for me.

You need a class that can do constant damage between mergen long cooldown. Such as Fletcher or Scout 3.
Falc is great with Mergen. Wugu is an option too.
A2-R1-Sc1-F3
A2-R1-Sc3-Rog/Fal
A3-Sc3-Fal
Etc.

mine is archer 3 scout 3 cannoneer, haven’t decided yet whether i go canon c2 or mergen, didn’t feel like wasting 2 char slots for falconer.

how about a3-scout3-musket-mergen
both pvp and pve are good
and you no need to care about sub weapon anymore (use gun and 2h bow weapon swap)
