I know its a little late now but I feel that if my experience with the beta may help make this game better in some small way then its worthwhile to voice my opinion.
The first thing I noticed as I was beginning my adventure was how linear everything felt. The quests seemed to lead you through the game world with little to no room for exploration. It felt strange to me that my first encounter with a dungeon was blocked of by story quest. Be that as it may I had fun anyway because of the amazing combat. I can not overstate just how nice hunting mobs is. Each attack feels like it has weight and sounds powerful. When mobs are dispatched they exploded in a way that is almost addictive to your senses. I spent a few hours of my time grinding when I really didn’t need to just to enjoy it. As my lv got a little bit higher then it needed to be. Often matching the boss I was up against. I found all the boss monsters quite easy to solo. I only got to the goat like creature with a scythe (boss 8 or 9 I think) but everything felt a little easy. Skills where another thing that I found to be well implemented. Most felt like they had viable use cases. Archers Swift Step and Kneeling Shot where my two favorites despite how opposing they are. The BGM was pleasant but I can’t say any of it stuck with me other then the dramatic sounding music that plays as you venture into that flower field like area for the first time after clearing the first dungeon.
So what does all of that mean?
1.ToS felt small almost like a bunch of hallways maybe the game opens up later but to me that’s not a good thing even at the beginning.
-
Combat is amazing! maybe put a cool down on consecutive jumps to increase the challenge of avoiding boss AOE attacks.
-
Player interaction needs work.
reason a. I played with a gamepad and didn’t and will not ever feel like having my keyboard next to me.
(Gamepad worked great and was a joy to use) salutation voice chat / compatibility with Xbox chatpad
reason b. Nothing early on gives you a reason to form a party there is no challenge to tackle that you can’t easily handle by yourself. Witch is great for the main story missions, but add a side quest or two so that test your skills and teamwork even at lower levels.
So those are my ICBT thoughts overall I had a good time and look forward to seeing this game grow.
