Field boss as in normally open map not an instance
Just to be on the safe side, what class are you rolling?
I’m rolling a tank swordie and I can pretty much say I’ve had close calls with some quest boss that endlessly spawns mobs for some reason (even though other bosses stop at a certain number), as well as boss that poison (granted I was unprepared and didn’t bring antidotes). Nevertheless, I wouldn’t exactly call it easy unless I cheese it with skills and running around trying not to get hit.
My point stands, so far every boss in this game is far too easy of a challenge, being tanky and dealing lots of damage isn’t a challenge, is a game of attrition and boring, one example is the DAMN HARPIE, because of lag every single atack from her is a one hit kill because of multiple hits for tons of damage, and she is tanky as hell too, but if wasn’t for the lag, she has the better atack patterns from the game so far (lots of AoE, good mobility, good atack ratio vs sitting down doing nothing etc).
Both a ranged wizard and a close range highlander
Yes I do agree that the mechanic of boss skill might seem easy but as for field boss. I’m lv 130 but I can’t solo field boss lv 76 at all due to huge hp and dmg it did. As for some of other field boss skill can one shot me or aoe are pretty much big range unless there’s a good tanker who know what to do helping around. To say every boss is just too easy made me feel disagree for this unless you mean to quest boss or instance boss.
My personal issue with bosses is that I don’t really feel like they’re made to try to kill me, I feel like they’re made as something that’s just another thing I have to overcome. Like a puzzle or something. That’s really a good analogy I think. Boss monsters are just boss puzzles. They have a pattern that they communicate to you, and you have to step in the right spot or you lose a life. It’s like dance dance revolution, or bop-it. This isn’t a boss fight in my opinion.
I expect my bosses to be trying to end my life. I should be able to read their attacks based on the situation of the battlefield, not based on how they roar, wind up, and where the red circle appears. If I’m slicing up their ankles, they should execute a swift kick or swat. If I’m at medium distance, I should expect to be lunged at. If I’m far away, I’d expect some kind of ranged attack. I personally don’t how simple it is to see an attack and move away. The only reason anyone with half a brain should be getting hit by attacks is because they’re pushing the bar a little too hard to see if they can squeeze every ounce of DPS out of their attack opportunity.
If I as a player even have enough time to think about this kind of calculation, the boss is probably not trying hard enough to kill me.
Just my own thoughts. I’m a big fan of Vindictus/Monster Hunter and that’s probably why I feel this way.
Im really glad that this thread is actively being talked about. Can Anyone Direct me to more threads in this topic?
As someone who hasn’t had the opportunity to play the game yet, I am really excited; However, I have seen many videos and it appears to me that the bosses are too predictable or easy to beat. I really like the concept that we “want the boss to attempt to end our lives”. Games are made too easy lately and I want something very challenging, something that will make me want more and make me want to be the best. If more frequent and more challenging attack patterns from boss monsters fix what I am seeing, then I would definitely pick up the game.
Anyway, really curious to know how many other people feel this way.
what class are you again?_?
Yes, the boss is easy but tedious. They should make the boss harder but fun to defeat, not let’s circle and attack the boss for 15 minutes.
That’s true for most game, it’s just that the puzzle of this game is too simple and tedious.
Also, we can’t have a boss that react too fast. Our character isn’t designed for fast pace action.
I kind of disagree. I think ToS is a great platform for fast paced boss action.
A lot of bosses spend about as much time winding up for their attack as they spend executing it, if not more. I think ToS would greatly benefit from reducing or almost removing this wind up so that someone who was not already in the process of dodging correctly by the time the attack came out would have no hope of actually dodging. It’d be pretty epic to abort a dodge and drop a Pavise or something if I was caught out of position.
I think this would work if and only if we were given some other way to read and expect attacks. Such as expecting a lunge if the boss’s current target was at medium range, or if there was a heal tile on the ground.
How great would it be if bosses preemptively attacked heal tiles when party members were low on health? It would certainly freak me out if running to my cleric buddy actually got me killed because I wasn’t paying attention.
I think that’s what it comes down to. You can hold a movement button and stop paying attention, because you will reliably dodge almost every single boss attack in the game.
hmm…it depends on what and which classes u using. I solo boss using pyro. Some bosses are really difficult just for normal quest’s bosses! I very satisfied those bosses that ToS been created so far. For mage class. Those bosses damage are extreme high! 2 skills or above. My pyro can been lay down on the field just in sec. So, Don’t Make It Harder!
It depends on what class you are playing. If you had ever played with the cast time and delay of a wizard, a faster reaction boss will make you only able to auto attack.
Unless the boss will have a delay after certain special action, I don’t think the wizard will be able to take on a boss (other than using aa).
Though I think that for other 3 class, a faster reaction boss is possible.
yeah…That pain full for wizard class. When I cast flame ground and fire pillar. Some boss movement speed too fast. I feel like. Jerk! Those skill like wasting my mana. Then my high power Fire pillar just gone in few secs. then wait 2min+…quite feel annoying if facing high reaction boss. But static bosses is my type. xD~~
I want to disagree, but my wizard is only level 20, so I don’t have a lot of experience in the upper areas with this class.
I do know that wizards and deal some serious hurt when they have the opportunity, and I think this ideology should be pushed harder, not repressed. There should always be opportunities, I don’t disagree with you there. But these opportunities should be something you rush to take advantage of, not things that you just kind of receive.
My pyro lvl now is 76 lvl…So, I know the feel so solo high reaction bosses. Then you will start searching party for PvE until u reach Sorcerer class…that middle of trainning are adsolute hard. When no players want to PT with u sometimes. It really a nightmare even u facing some creeps.
is worst with psychokine, to use our only good skill we have to get so close I end up inside bosses most of the time.
bosses can enter a mode where they get 0 hits and ruin your skill timing and it’s the same if you are on a party and the boss move away from you.
Well, wait until you fight ravinipede. Struggled against that boss with a 2 man party(krivisc2 and priestc2). That party setup means we had 2 safety zones, and we still almost died, 3 times.
The problem is, at rank 2 or rank 3, your wizard actually has a lesser dps than cleric and swordsmen.
Try leveling to rank 4 and you will understand the pain of playing a wizard (low dps, high cast time, not enough sp, mediocre CC).
If they are going to revamp the boss, they certainly need to balance the class in ToS first. Some class is not well suited for fast pace battle as for now.
My brother is a level 81 wizard(14 job level with like 95% right now) and leveled as fast as my krivis.
Just my personal opinion, but are you serious ? I’m feeling really stressed out by the difficulty of bosses in this game. I had to re-roll 5 or 6 times, trying to create a character built around boss-killing only to find myself stuck at about level 70, unable to solo bosses anymore with Swordsman and Archer. It might be the latency or something, I just find some bosses’ patterns are too quick to be able to avoid in time.
