How to make boss fight fun

What boss fights need isnt using numbers as an approach to make it fun. Increasing/decreasing their stats doesn’t change much. What boss need is to be more aggressive in the sense of movement speed, attack speed. They feel too sluggish. Well if we are going to make them attack faster and react/chase/move faster than maybe their stats would need to scale down slightly.

But the most important thing is that boss are too sluggish

Some bosses are fast, but the AI still need be polished.

With their ridiculous amounts of HP, it is always better to go in a party, and that’s good.At level 64, I found Bramble. Bramble has an AOE attack with an enormous (not even kidding here) range, and it’s very unlikely you’ll escape from it (so big you will most likely not outrun it unless you have some speed-boosting ability). I, as a level 57 wizard/wizard/linker, who for some reason is in level 60s zones, literally can get one-hitted if I’m not full HP, as out running it simply does not work for me. The Wizard’s Reflection shield also does not mitigate the AOE’s damage, and that’s just overkill as we can’t even outrun it. :cry:

I dodged it once, but I think the hitboxes were just messy that time. He does like 1.4k~ damage, I have something around 1450 hp, so I was always left at 20 hp if I was at full HP.
Meanwhile my tank friend was going around taking the hits and losing only 1/5th of his HP.
The shock wave, I tried jumping above it, couldn’t avoid it, I tried going behind him and other blind spots, but it just couldn’t be avoided. It literally forces party play, unless I’m missing a way to avoid his AOE attack (which by the way has that red marker indicating that he’s going to do the attack, and basically covers the whole room).

I should also mention that his normal attacks had a huge range, a good range, the kind of range that makes you move smart and circle around the monster instead of just walking back.

That was a fun boss.

As for the others, I really do hope they make them harder in terms of speed and what not, just like you said!
Oh and I kind of wish the red markers that show up when they are going to attack disappeared on ALL of them, as some still have them.

Really Loving this topic. I hope more people decide to dive into the ease of defeating bosses. It doesnt feel like a game if I know I can win. Make me doubt with some better AI movements, damage and attack patterns!

Ya i know what u mean especially since i m a tanky priest going paladin.

I just need to stand and try to face tank all his attacks. After 1 full cycle of the attack pattern i will know if i can just facetank auto attack it dead or i need to be more tactical in the fights.

Why every boss in this game has to be a ■■■■■■■ giant with a lot of hp and defense? Why can’t we have s humanoid fast boss or something with different mechanics? I think what really made us sick about the boss fights is that every single boss has the same mechanics from the others, with just little differences. We could name the “AoE” type attacks that boss, like the “rain” one, the one where he spins, the one where he makes an earthquake, etc… There are the rush attacks, the close attacks, the minion summon, the turret summon, and the list goes on and on…

You see, every boss uses a set of one of these elements to be kinda “unique”, but the core mechanic is always the same, at least for me it feels like this until now.

I don’t see the point off having that many boss fights if they are always going to feel the same. Boss should be unique by definition ( at least for my definition XD hahaha). I think that if we had at least, like, 5 to 7 different boss mechanics as a hole it would be beyond perfect. I know that we have something like the “wizard” one, the “tank” one, or the “flying” one now, but they all feel the same

Pretty much spot on. The boss doesn’t feel alive even though as stupid as it sounds since this is a video game.

They boss need to be more like monster hunter. Total bad ass but still can be done
