Magic Missile homing problems

Bug Description:
Magic Missile often misses targets. In the screenshot, I fired the missiles toward the targeted enemy, and they just went elsewhere, wasting the attack. This happens very often when moving.
Sometimes, the bullets also only send out 1 missile and the others are just missing.

Steps to reproduce the issue :

  1. Run around near a target
  2. Press Magic Missile button when aiming at enemies, while continuing to move
  3. Observe that it sometimes misses

Additional Comments:
This does not occur when the player is standing completely still and uses the attack. However, I’m playing with the mouse controls, and your player is almost always moving to a new destination while you’re using skills, so it causes the attack to bug out immediately.

My suggestion is, if we need to wait for the missile launch animations to finish, then it should prevent movement until the animation completes.

Also, the current description text does not indicate if it is supposed to home in on nearby enemies, or the targeted enemy - it just says “Use magic bullets to attack enemy continuously”, so I don’t know what it’s supposed to be doing, but I’m observing that it just hits random enemies in range right now.

Magic Missile fires in a short range AoE Cone. Aim by positioning and facing your enemies. It fires just fine for me. Its very tricky to get 3 mobs in range, but I can consistently hit 2 mobs, and always able to focus a single one with 3 missiles for AWESOME damage at a puny cost of 39 SP.

I can consistently get it to fire correctly and at the enemies I want, but the weird part is that it can be canceled/ bugged out while constantly moving, which isn’t like the other skills. For example, earthquake will stop you and play its full animation. This one appears to be possible to cancel early, and if you do that, whatever homing missiles get sent out don’t hit anything, even if enemies are in your AoE cone (like my screenshot). It just doesn’t feel like natural behavior, but maybe IMCGames can clarify.

I think the reason for the bug where monsters are clearly in your cone is due to server / client inconsistency. Often times when I am kiting enemies the missiles will fire away from the monsters even though my sprite is already pointing at the target.

I agree this skill’s implementation needs to be looked into. It is a great concept with its uniqueness but getting it to work consistently over high ping will be a problem.

The so called “homing missiles” isn’t really homing. It’s just an indicator that the skill has found no further valid targets in the cone you fired. I agree its buggy though, and maybe it should just use the selected target and closest monsters in a small radius.

I had this issue as well. The skill was very inconsistent. It is at its worst when using a controller.

I just came on here to post about this, except I have this issue even when I’m NOT moving. 50% of the time one or two missiles will just fly off in random directions and not hit anything. It would be great if they would give us an indicator of Magic Missiles’ cone-area on the ground. I swear though sometimes I have 3+ monsters right in front of me and one magic missile will fly off into nothing!

Yea it’s still quite buggy. Same as iCBT1. I guess they didn’t fix this problem.

This issue is exacerbated if the mob is on stairs. Your magic missiles will not hit.

It’s not consistent. If you move while using it, possibly it only fires 1. Sometimes it seems the missiles go over your opponent. And sometimes some don’t home at all…and are the hits meant to be random opponents and not your target lock? I would think they randomize after your target is dead.

It might be what CookyKim said but from our perspective, it’s the homing.

Same problem here, very often Magic Missile does not hit any target and many times I’m not far from the target. Also, it does not work with “Target Lock” (when you press Ctrl, not sure if it is a bug).

Magic missile is such a lackluster skill. It has short range, when you cast it it goes 3 different direction, and is a single target skill. Another thing wrong with the skill is if a monster is in height difference platform even a small step, the missile won’t lock

My suggestion to fix one of the is when you cast the skill make all 3 hit for forward.

I hope they fix this at some point…
This skill is pretty strong, If only I can land all missiles on target.

If only magic missle won’t miss when there are targets in front of you.

I’m okay with magic missle going random, but missing when it shouldn’t is too big a bug.

I tried standing still, While moving, Medium, Close, and Point Blank.
Magic Missile can still miss…
But it could also be Latency or a Client/Server thing…
If that was the case they could maybe change the programming so it wont run into issues with latency or how client/server communicates with each other when using this skill…
If they fixed this. Magic Missile is a really good skill.

I dunno why I didn’t realize this but… Magic missile’s cone points to where your cursor is (if you are using mouse UI). So pointing at the mob with your cursor while casting seems to reduce the homing problems. Let me know if this tip work for you guys.

Edit: Good news, I haven’t missed a single magic missile since learning that the cone of fire aims where my cursor is at.

Does this make all Missiles hit one target ?
When there are other enemies nearby ?
