Hi IMC,
tldr: Better confidence in your company means more money. And here is how.
I enjoy your game immensely and I understanding the complications that go into maintaining MMOS. I do a lot of PR consultation in my day job, and I want to offer a few suggestions. I hope that this will help improve public opinion on your game, which WILL translate to more revenue.
First, things that you are doing great:
- Weekly developer FAQ. This section is brilliant; please keep it up.
- Colorful instructions. There is a lot of art and themes to your announcements, which shows care and dedication. It also helps reduce confusion. I especially like the Reset Voucher page, well done.
- Reaching out to Social Media. Your use of Facebook is good; it helps advertise the game. Well done, and I encourage more of this free advertisement.
- Ignoring ragers and dooms-day-callers. These players are toxic and they are in every game, I am glad you are ignoring them.
Suggestions:
Try being more transparent with your process. Your player population seems to be roughly between ages 20-28, which means they are not likely to respond well to oversimplified announcements. A closed-door approach is not recommended. You are already allocating resources for damage control when things turn out poorly, and it often does due to the complexity of the project. However, consistent transparency and player support will allow players to sympathize rather than antagonize. When well maintained, there is a high likelihood that you can reduce the revenue spend on maintaining an acceptable public image. For example, if the Reset Voucher is delayed, players are likely to rage currently. However, if you were to give an abbreviated series of steps that needs to be met before release, and ask for player feedback, you may have a different result.
If it helps, take a look at iROās āTiki Tuesday,ā the host (Oda) does an excellent job at addressing player concerns and helps the community feel heard. It is not about solving problems or fixing bugs; rather it is about gaining the trust of players.
As a player, I want to witness the banning of bots (although it doesnāt have to be substantial), I want to listen to your thought process/plans about fixing certain bugs, I want to hear the concern in your voice and urgency when a player reports a game-breaking bug.
