List of pure/full tank builds?

Hello, I often see threads looking for the highest dps builds and there ends up being a lot of variety in viable builds.

What about pure tanks though? I’d like to make a list of popular/possible tank builds so that anyone looking to build a pure tank can find variety here and decide for himself.

Of course, pure tanks might or might not be needed in the endgame meta (ET for now) but it’s always fun to have options to build a character how you want to!

The requirements to be in the list:
-At least pelt 1
-Built around survival and/or damage mitigation (block+hp or high evasion for fencers?).
-Debuffs and CCs are nice, damage is the last thing we should think about.

I think that sums it up. If you can add a description about the build alongside it i’ll add it to the main post (with credits obv). For now I’ll add those I’ve heard of:

High HP/block:
Sword 1 > Pelt 3 > Squire 3
Full CON

Sword 1 > Pelt 3 > Cata 3

Sword 1 > Pelt 3 > Rodelero 2 > x

Sword 1 > Pelt 2 > Rode 2 > Squire 2

Sword 1 > Pelt 3 > Rode 2

RANK 8 PREDICTIONS:

Sw 1 > Pelt 3 > Squire 3 > Murmillo 1

Sw 1 > Pelt 3 > Rode 3 > Murmillo 1

Sw 1 > Pelt 3 > Rode 2 > x > Murmillo 1

Sw 1 > Pelt 2 > Rode 3 > x > Murmillo 1

Sw 1 > Pelt 2 > Rode 2 > x > x > Murmillo 1

Feel free to suggest builds!

Since Fencer’s complain about rapier durability - Fix your own rapier:

Sword 1 > Pelt 2 > Rode 2 > Squire > Fencer

This may sound very cheap, play what style you want. It all comes down to just draw aggro and pull mobs for the DPS classes, so if you can do that well and hold aggro that’s all there is to it in this game…

but neither do you need slither or food buffs for any content.
If you want to run around fast with a cata 3 to avoid getting hit or you want to move slow and be immune to magic for a short amount of time or want to have a huge HP pool and just suck any damage up while getting hit by 21+ mobs, you can make that build work! Actually enjoy having that play style is the most important.

All you need is enough CON to survive if you going to get swash lvl 15 and get hit by a big amount of mobs.

(source lvl 260+ pelt 3 squire 3 full con)

So basically anything that is sword 1 > pelt 3 full con is enough? Like pelt 3 > hop3, or even pelt 3 > sword 3?

But yes the goal of this thread is just to broaden the view on full tanks, I myself was very confused as I thought that the only full tank was pelt 3 squire 3 until I had to do some research! So I’m sure plenty of newbies like myself are confused and seeing full tank as a one way road to the top of the meta :P.

Adding that to the main thread!

War cry is nice for the AoE reduced armor but peltast already has a skill that brings the enemy’s armor to 0

When i started my pelt 3 i first planned to go SW>pelt 3>squire1>doppel 2

For mass taunt and then spin2win the whole mass down.
While i still think this is a very interesting build i was afraid that with high con or even full con the doppel skill’s would not do enough damage to make it effective.

Which peltasta skill is that?

The Hard Tank (Magic and Armor defenses)
Rank 8 Choices: Murmillo or Squire

Utility Tank/Money Maker (Armor Maintenance is for your own good. You’ll use the Repairs to make money)
Rank 8 Choices: Murmillo or Rodelero

Money Farming Tank/ Damage Booster
Rank 8 Choices: Rodelero, Murmillo, Squire

Semi-DPS Tank
Rank 8 Choices: Fencer2,Rodel3,Squire1,Doppel

DPS Tank
Rank 8 Choices:Fencer3,Rodel3,Squire1,Pelt3,Murmillo

These are all the tank build i play and i main tanks for my characters. Everything is full CON with the exception of the last 2 which are 4:1 (CON:STR) for Semi DPS and 1:2 (STR:CON) for DPS.

As for my experience the most effective ones in tanking are the first three. If you got any questions feel free to ask.

I’m digging my non meta tank. Pelt 3, Squire 1, Fencer 1 going 2.

You’re missing Hoplite. IDK why swordies don’t play Hoplite that much, you can play it offensively as well as defensively. And it’s one out of two swordie ranks that has most of its skills as [Pierce] with Fencer.
Finestra lvl 15 grants 30% Block, and 150 crit rate, with a Peltasta2 or 3, it’s enough to block 90% of physical attacks and you can dps as well. Syncro Thrusting can be switched from [Pierce] to [Strike] type damage as another kind of dps for shield users.

You also can play with Squire1 on your build, Arrest’s attribute grants 50% physical defense reduction on mobs/bosses, useful for your fellow swordies.

Being a full support tank is not just stacking loads of HP but helping your team mates to max their dps by debuffing bosses, removing armor defense or making them vulnerable to [X] type of attack (Strike,Slash, Pierce)

Just my two cents on this topic.

@Vanitas I think the main reason we post so many builds and ask advice is because they may not reflect our expectations or have some problems (like Weapon Swap delay, which is a reason to avoid a build completely to some people). I have a hard time finding a build that suits me in each game.

Back on topic: how does Pelt2 fare? Im not sure on what to take at rank 3. And how good are SLithering and Shield Bash in pvp?

For a not full tank (going off-tank/bruiser), would dropping a rank in Rode for one more in Fencer would bring me down too much tank-wise? Sw>Pelt2>Rode>Corsair>Fencer2.

P.S.: I’m addressing you a lot recently because your advices worked well for me so far.

I know nothing about pvp so i can’t give advice on that… But in my experience this game right now offers only somewhat balanced pve and if you want to remain useful end game, aka ET,you should have atleast a peltast 3 (max swash) if they need a swordsman at all…

@NotVau but can’t you do it better with Fencer? You can avoid attacks with Flancconade and make targets vulnerable to Pierce and Slash attacks (for the whole party), increase your block rate and do some damage meanwhile.

You can do that, but Hoplite is a rank 3 and Fencer a rank 6. The first one is a spear user and the other one a rapier user. Finestra grants 3 AoE attack ratio while Fencer has none, not even Rapier weapons grants AoE attack ratio. Only Lolopanther Rapier grants 1. Fencer is useful for 1v1 boss/mob/player. Hoplite has more choices.
Don’t get me wrong, damage wise, Fencer wins 100% with [Pierce] type vs Hoplite, but AoE attack ratio is the main problem for PvE as a Fencer.

It really depends what you want for rank 6 or 7. You can take Hoplite and Fencer, they don’t counter each other. Actually, Hoplite + Fencer would do pretty good, IMO.

As a tank, i would not take Fencer, specially if you’re full CON, your damage will be so low on late mobs that it will just be a wasted rank.
