Barbarian builds were the way to go for a melee DPS character so far.
Swordsman
Highlander/Swordsman
Barbarian x3
Doppelsöldner
Cookie-cutter build. You can’t really tank with your build cause you don’t have tank skills with those classes. What you could do instead is go with Highlander instead of Barb, then you would aim for a similar build but with the ability to tank.
Swordsman
Highlander x3
Corsair
Corsair/Doppelsöldner
Cross-guard would allow you to gain survivability while still going with your desired dps-oriented classes.
The colors of the class emblems are not just for show. When making your choices for what class to go, you should consider:
- Red emblem = Offensive Classes
- Blue emblem = Defensive Classes
- Green emblem = Utility Classes
- Black emblem = Special Classes
Usually Blue and Red don’t go well with each other. Green classes generally serve as party enhancement, hence they improve your presence in parties but they also work well as filler classes and are therefore a good choice in conjunction with either Red or Blue.
Black classes are odd in that they don’t seem to offer any kind of synergy with other classes. That generally makes them a bad choice when you want to go for either Tank/DPS/Support builds. At the same time these black classes seem to work fine on their own, without the need for synergy.
A red/blue/green class might need the help of another red/blue/green class party member to unfold greater power (see e.g. Peltasta’s Rimblow + Elementalist’s Stone Curse or Cryomancer’s freeze), whereas black classes either do not focus on combat at all(e.g. fletcher/Pardoner) or they utilize their strength without the help of others(e.g. Sorcerer/Necromancer).
