Let's discuss some swordsman builds

things can still change for OBT anyways,

but since iCBT is following korean CBT3, info in the fansites would still be somewhat relevant

you can test out which skill works best in CBT though and present to the community your opinion

Will I be able to reset my skill builds in cbt?

during hoplite circle 1 you can already feel which skill would be better since both skills are availabel to you already

Just be warned that Hoplite is a very PVE class, it has no cc skills (stuns, slows, etc.) so it won’t do well by itself in PVP.
Swordsman classes that are better for PVP include Peltasta (Umbo blow can stun with attribute), Barbarian (Giant Swing of love), Rodelero (heaps of cc), Corsair (hook + pull), Doppelsoldner (Punish)

Aaaww… and I do like to pvp. I’ll try it or I’ll make another character than can optimized for pvp. Thanks! Taking note of this.

That leaves him no other option than to go full DPS then tho.
He wanted the ability to also take a hit or two.
That’s the only way to do it.

Right off the bat gonna be going for a tanky squire build. If the squire arrest skill can be used in PvP I might even sacrifice another squire skill for it.

R1:Swordsman
R2:Peltasta
R3:Peltasta
R4:Peltasta
R5:Squire
R6:Squire

Yea, I thought about that build. Tank with ability to trade =D

The problem with this is that Squire has ZERO PVP skills aside from arrest. Unless you want to repair your stuff mid-PVP. Or treat them to a feast. Lol. So you’ll be essentially down 2 ranks of skills.

I know. The idea that it would be useful in PvP is mostly a stab in the dark. If arrest is good enough it could make it worth it, and then use my peltasta abilities to annoy the others.

It’ll largely depend on how arrest duration/AOE scaling would be. But it’s pretty hard to take that over say a Corsair which KIND OF has the same skill with iron hook + jolly roger which gives you increased combat skill. And keelhauling which can damage after you disable them. Maybe a Swordsman > Peltasta > Peltasta > Rodolero > Squire > Squire would work better. Since perma disable could be your thing.

Hmm, interesting. I like the idea. Once beta starts I’ll give your idea a go and see how it goes! Thank you!

I was thinking on taking on Pierce to maximum but from seeing the streams it seems Stabbing is overall better. But would you simply ignore Pierce all together or drop some points in that?

I maxed them both in a skill build I made. I might change my mind once I try it in-game. I’m going hoplite circle 3 then centurion.

I’d ignore Pierce unless u really have some spare points. I’d rather pick up Synchro Thrusting instead for counters, it also increases your crit rate for 5 secs after a successful counter. I’d counter and then stab furiously for crits.

Question! Can you lose your spear if you throw it? o_o

Referring to… Spear Throw skill!

Answer: Yes you can, make sure you pick it up! (But sometimes you die straight after you throw it, in that case bad luck…)

I hope they can add a feature where you can have a set of javelins or pilums that you can throw instead of you main spear weapon, but with less damage.

I think macedonian peltasts were able to throw javelins during skirmish and fight in melee combat with their spear weapon.

lookie!

Here is a hoplite carrying a javelin that he can use to throw when charging towards the enemy and a spear to use as a melee weapon.

EDIT:
Do you think I should link this as a topic in the feedback/suggestions thread?

Not really a fan of the throwing mechanics atm, way too risky and doesn’t seem that worth it, but I guess it could be used to last-hit someone?

Maybe like ā€œHey, where you going bro, don’t runā€ BAM Flying spear to the neck

Yeah it is risky. PVP wise, I will test if I can lose my spear in the arena if I don’t pick it up. Otherwise, I should carry a bunch of cheap spears in my inventory and change weapon during a fight and throw it.

But what do you think of the javelin/pilum thing?
