Tree of Savior Forum

Let us improve the "Fan Art Festival"

Saviors, The poll has completed and I have the result.

Even considering we have 11 multi-vote still, we have Option 2 as a winner.

Now, what we have to start discuss is, that how many pieces to be selected by Staffs and by Users.

And also we have to discuss about how could be improve our process against the forgery and IP thefts.

Poll Thread: link

I think the time for arguing about what options is better is over and now it’s time to focus on that chosen option…

as for how many… maybe the ones chosen by the staff, skip the random element by letting the community vote on them or the other way around…

mmm…

EDIT: reverse search can be stopped by directly uploading on forum or using alternative uploaders…

If you must do a community + staff vote, I’d say the majority would have to be a staff vote and there would be one “Community’s Favorite”. So like 10 staff voted entries and 1 community winner.

For IP theft you could try reverse image search but it’s probably not that accurate

User voting has the potential to be a fun way to recognise artists and encourage community activity. To minimise the downsides there are a few ways to set up voting in a way that discourages disruptive behaviour.

Anonymity

This is perhaps the most obvious step. When the vote is anonymous people won’t feel as much pressure to vote for ones made by popular members. I also suggest making it in a way so that the Staff can see who voted so they can do at least a little review on any brigading by alternate accounts or guilds.

Voting Method

The actual voting method should be done by allowing us to vote once per valid image but allowing us to vote for an unlimited amount of entries. In a perfect world I’d recommend Single Transferable Vote but due to its complexity it may not be practical.

Draws

In the unlikely event of a draw, have a secondary head to head vote to see which one is picked over the other, this of course will have to be limited to a single vote. In the case of multi draws, a few rounds of voting could be done or an easier alternative is to have the Staff pick.

Illegal Images

In the case of an image winning in the vote, but the image turning out to be stolen or otherwise illegal, differ its place to the next in line.

For finding stolen images, delay giving the reward a week to increase the chance of finding the illegal ones. In the case one is found even after the rewards are given out, remove the illegal image and give the next valid image its place.

Valid Participants

The best method in deciding which pieces should be voted upon is having the Staff vet them first. We as the community are not aware of the specific limitations, and what qualifies an image as inappropriate, so the ideal option would be having the Staff pick all of the valid ones and place them in the poll. Preferably we would see which images are valid before the poll goes live, so we may offer feedback on whether we agree or not and further discuss what will happen.

Staff Voting

This should be entirely up to the Staff. Let them vote in the way they see fit, but let the community have the first vote, and then the Staff pick from the remainder.

Legible Voters

This one should be open to discussion for the time being, but the poll should definitely take place here on the forums. An account should be necessary to vote.

Other potential places to allow voting is on Facebook and Twitter. This would be great for those semi separate communities and may encourage them to come back here to the forums for more in depth discussion. I’m not entirely sure about this as they don’t have the same information on those platforms as they would here on the forums, plus the Staff don’t have the same vetting ability. This point should be discussed and it would be great to have the Staff’s opinion on it.

Voting Process

The actual voting process should happen similar to this:

  1. Announcement
  2. Users submit in a separate subcategory called Contest/Festival for organisational purposes. Upon the event ending, all submissions would be moved to the usual Fan Art subcategory.
  3. As valid art is submitted they would be added to a stickied topic with a link to the post.
  4. After the allotted waiting period the post would turn into a poll and stickied on the front page.
  5. After the voting period the Staff will decide on their picks.
  6. Announcement of winners
  7. Week delay
  8. Rewards are given out

Note: If the Staff have a better way of making the poll in a completely separate way like adding a feature to the website, that may be a better alternative.

Instead of submitting the art to the forum, have us send it to you on email. Make one forumpost with all the artwork that follow the rules of the contest, no 5min paint drawings, no lewd stuff and that it actually follows the theme of the contest, and let them be anonymous when you post them.

When you deside who is going to win, let 5 of them be the staff favorites, 5 be user vote, and let 10-20 be “the goddess choice” AKA random. Mix all of them up and use 10 of them as loadingscreens that you rotate out every week. Prizes will only go to the 10 that got picked by the staff/voters, but alot of the others will get their honorable mentions and maybe a tiny ingame prize. A gatcha cube seems nicely fitting.

This way everyone wins. The staff gets to sort out all the stuff that is bad, the users get their favorites to win and everyone gets to see a lot of nice new art every week.

There will be desperate artists who will make multiple accts to vote.
Remember what happend to that fashion saviour event?
Totally biased voting right there.
I think staff should put entries in a magical hat and do random draws.
Who cares if the art sucks, it’ll give everyone a fair chance at winning if they submit something.

Same goes for the weed event since most players will create dummy steam accounts to plant weeds. But that’s another issue yet has the same method

Some flaws on Anonymity suggestion.

-Anyone can submit their artworks via E-mail and will be posted in a later date if passed through IMC’s Criteria.

-Most of those who submitted have a obvious / specific artstyle so being Anonymous is gone.

-Being Anonymous means you’re a nobody and can copy paste / traced any art you want and submit it to the staff via E-mail since they wouldn’t know where or who did the art, you just submitted it as your work. Same goes for when it is posted on the forums for players to vote.
