In terms of class “feel”, I think it kind of makes sense to move thaum, enchanter, and linker out of wizard tree…just maybe not with the current in-game skins.
Thaumaturge always felt more like a “muscle wizard” what with bulking up, literally, and transposing INT/CON and whatnot. And the whole,
enemy: you’re dead!!
reversi: no u
situation going on. All of these things can easily be “re-skinned” to being related to physical trees instead of magic. Thaumaturge is now a fitness trainer who can turn enemies into being tiny weak little babby or big loot-filled pinatas and turns spells against their caster.
Enchanter always came across as a tinkerer more than anything, to me at least, what with having to prepare the powders and doodads before combat rather than being able to innately cast magic in battle. Yes, a magic user, but not exactly in the same way as the rest of the wizards. I admit it’s surprising that it’s being turned into a physical class but I guess it makes sense in being able to fit with the rest. Kinda thinking that it’s a bit like preparing lighting capsules that can be applied to your gun or whatever in battle.
Linker is strange considering its current “lore”, but nothing about it seems strictly and obviously magic. Imagine joint penalty as some kind of spirit lasso and suddenly it starts to make sense. Not even lifeline seems inherently magical when you consider how templars work.
These three classes aren’t so rooted in magic that it would be impossible to imagine them otherwise, like chronomancer or elementalist or sorcerer.
I do think that “Scout” is a weird name for the class, and actually the weird one out (to me) is Schwarzer Reiter. Otherwise, the uniting theme between these classes is that they’re dagger and pistol users, and utilize tools or tricks instead of raw power. Even squire kind of fits the bill: build a camp out in enemy territory and hold that man down while your buddies whale on em. I’m surprised that Appraiser isn’t there, it seems like a perfect fit tbh. Pied Piper too, for that matter, but I guess archers needed to be left with something.
