Ok but those who prefer solo and/or quest are not going to like 200+ then. Why basically lie/lure those players into a grind game, unless they plan to put “warning: questing is only from 1-200” as knight tiltas’s new intro text xD
Gonna try Zombie grinding there tomorrow. If it really stays at 80k, then spending 2 hours there is an easy max all Attributes before even hitting Rank 4 (And a bit of EXP since it doesn’t scale downwards when fighting higher-level mobs).
i dont think its right either that the game forces you to party or die
the appeal of playing solo has always been present since the dawn of MMO’s and i dont think they should mess around with that too much, i think if they wanted this to be a party game they woudve made it one of those instanced dungeon types, which matches you with people automatically,
i think its implied that having 600 levels will tell anyone that this game will be a grind game, no one is being lured at all imo, if the amount of quests taper off as you level up then people will quickly realise that you cant keep questing anymore and grind out their levels solo or in a party (this should be a choice not a requirement) until there are no more quests left, imc did also mention that there will be other gimmicks to do besides grinding in the later levels.
@Sixaxis
i think its gonna be one of those party maps lol, expect to get one shot by monsters with boss level hp and defences xD
that brings me to the point of solo vs party:
i think 3 star maps will be party oriented areas and 1 star maps will be for solo players, 2 star seems like an inbetweener probably for duos or smaller parties.
sorry, what were u getting at? Dx
Being someone who played Ragnarok Online since kRO beta… I’m actually used to nearly straight grind, and no quests. For me it was odd to go back to playing again and they added in a quest system. It didn’t seem to fit. (Other than the original quests to change job classes)
So if ToS went nearly full grind, and less quests, I’d be okay with it, as long as the exp rate was alright. (I’d like to hit endgame content in a year or less, a year being the longest I’d want to grind for.)
I’d say have a mainstory questline, like it does, and possibly some side-story quests, to fill in the lore of the world. I don’t like games that are quest dependent for leveling up.
I.E. I learned more (gained more exp) from collecting 20 balls of string for an NPC, than I did from killing 5 monsters with a bow.
Doesn’t flow right in my head.
Honestly, I hope it doesnt go this route. I believe ToS could cater to both ‘audiences’ (those who wants to grind their way, as long the EXP rates are ok for advancement AND those who enjoy questing, cuz theyre more interested in the lore and affairs of the world. I include myself in the later.). Making it appealing to only one side is kind of a terrible decision, they need to balance it.
@Gunnr
While I agree with you on the point that ToS would in fact be better if it was a happy balance or the best of both scenarios,
I have yet to see a game successfully cater to both sides. Though I won’t say that I’ve played every game out there, I’ve played quite a few, and most being MMOs.
So what I’d personally like: To see it be more about leveling up because of killing monsters, etc.
What I’d like to see: What you said, a balance or you being able to pick which to do.
What I expect: They choose a side, or end up failing to cater to both.
Was anyone able to complete this collection?
Every time I put one gem it highlight every gem on the collection and I cannot add another gem
Well, nothings perfect, we can only hope for the better.
It seems like you haven’t heard of a game called Guild War 2 lols
That’s because you get to experience how utility works. You become aware of things that can be useful, thus resulting in resource competition. You can get x item or y item many times and sell them on the market, to other players or use it for your alts. When you have to kill the same monster 20 times without anything useful, you don’t see any point in it because there’s no profit other than experience gained.
I think that’s one of the things I liked about RO ages ago. I enjoy when items have utility and can be used to sell/buy/trade instead of tossing everything away because it is just useless and pointless.
@Monokoi
I played it when it first came out. It didn’t hook me, really. I had played GW, and honestly that game turned me off due to instanced world. I know GW2 isn’t the same way, but if that is your example of successfully combining both aspects, then perhaps IMC can emulate with ToS.
@Lunalepsy
At least in RO, items were worth something. Even Jellopies. Lol. Monsters dropped like millions of Jellopies, and at least they were worth like 20z to NPC shops. In most quest-based games I’ve played, the common item drops from monsters were nearly useless to sell. Some were useful for crafting, but I have found that they tend towards proliferating useless items.
I honestly don’t think they should copy a game beside RO at this point. As IMC had already said, the game will be focused on alot of grinding further into the game, thus allowing less quest with greater rewards. IMC doesn’t want to balance the quest and grinding as they want quest to be more rare and rewarding further into the game. If someones really just looking to enjoy the best of the best, Blade and Soul is to go, since they of course had alot of similarities to alot of different games that was a pro to the game.
What I meant by emulate is that they utilize the system of balancing quests and grinding. The mechanical part of the game. Didn’t mean ToS playing like GW2, but ToS balancing quest vs grind like GW2 (If GW2 balances it)
Ultimately I want ToS to be a true sequel to RO, and RO in its golden period, not after its rebirth changes, etc.
Ah, I see
but what really needs to happen right now is a event for Christmas!! lols santa hats pls haha
That event is so Ragnarok

Given the nature of how their costume system works, they could even do christmas costumes.
Santa hat for sure though. And reigndeer antlers.
