Killstealing allowed? Anti-social player behavior

I’m coming from international Ragnarok Online (long-time player for many years).
I’ve now leveled a char up to 133 and what i’ve seen how other players behave is sad and frustrating.

In Ragnarok Online it was (at least in 99% of all cases) the case that killstealing normal monsters was forbidden and people leave other peoples mobs alone. If you saw someone already fighting a monster/group of monsters then you just ignore them and move along. The only exceptions were world bosses, which were free-for-all. It was not only about the rules but also about respect for other players. If that other guy spends his skill-cooldowns and potions to attack a group of monsters then killstealing and thus stealing his rewards for fighting these monsters was considered extremely rude.

In this game i see about 99% of all players killstealing (worst offenders : archer classes).
If i have a group of 5~6 monsters in a dungeon and another player comes along it is, at least to my experience, almost certain that this person is going to try to killsteal the group of monsters that you are currently tanking. Not only that, but after killstealing they often make stupid comments like “lawl lrn2play” or "thx for the loot :* ".

Just a few minutes ago i was mobbing in Mage Tower 5F and saw another group coming on screen.
Since i suspected them of trying to killsteal me I quickly activated my Chronos Timestop skill to freeze all mobs and make them pretty much invincible for the entire time. What did the group do? Instead of moving along for the entire 15-second duration of the Timestop skill they spammed their skills into the time-stopped monster group until Timestop ran out while shouting “lol noob lrn2play lawlz”.

I think this is really sad behaviour and i can’t really imagine how terrible it’s going to get when this game gets released.
This will become even worse considering how the low monster spawn rate can already be too low for the existing population.
If this anti-social behaviour was only done by a few people then i’d say it’s ok, however almost everyone i see is showing that kind of behaviour.

Do you think such anti-social behaviour (killstealing + mocking with stupid comments) behaviour is ok in a game like this?
Is killstealing allowed according to the game rules?

I really, REALLY love this game, but such anti-social behaviour from a large part of the player base really destroys the fun.

Next time reply to the op not me -.- as this way it directs me to your post and not him who you intended it for. But yea search fu is weak with most on the forums.

so sad man  it happens to me aswell when im questing, although i leave other players alone when they are already killing some groups, but it happens sometimes that i place flame ground in a group of mobs and at the same time another player attacks the same group, so i apologize and continue my search.

Kill steal is a stupid term, you cannot judge some people ks-ing because their skills hit your mobs or they just want to finish a quest with this stupid spawn rate.
I call it harassment when they intend to not letting you play, in various situation. For example, a group of BR camping Bee Farm right now and they hit all the mobs and even switch to my mobs before they finish their, just an example.

Oh, sorry about that. It was unintended. I meant to reply to the thread itself :cold_sweat:

Spawn rate is the issue here, its forcing players to compete and be territorial over grinding zones.

Make a party yourself to make sure you get your quests, etc. complete.

It’s a pretty social solution, but muhkiritosolobeater right?

The parties still clash with each other and fight over zones. Same problem larger scale.

i am a kser… i zone out and kill everything on my screen at all times. walking from 1 quest to the next… there is no repercussions for me doing this… im able to watch tv while i play and spawns are fast enough and i move around fast enough that i go as quick as i come. but im an archer and i kill things in 1-2 hits and my auto attacking arrows bounce from to mobs… usually i dont even see you or any person until someone brings up a chat box on my screen. the ks i do is intentional and yet not intentional. anti social sure… lack of caring sure… but i dont talk to you and i dont stalk you… if you happen to be on my screen when im walking through you miss a few mobs.

The KS happens because of two main reasons:

1- more then half of the playerbase is one of the worst communities i’ve ever seen… at times, even if it’s not that aweful, i almost compare it to the LoL one and that’s saying a lot
2- the mob density and respawn rate is SO LOW that if you don’t kill steall other players you can’t do much… maybe not at lvl 133… but do another 30 lvls and you’ll easely see what i mean.

the european server had such a rule - ksing was reportable and got even punished - also scaming in any kind wasn allowed (of course) your account could recieve temporary or even permanent ban if it happened too often - also you got all of your items back (screenshot + conversation provided)
thats why a couple of godlike items been offered for “rent” cause the game was so secure for all players you had nothing to worry about in terms of bad behaviour - also european ro was a close community - if anybody would behave stupid in any way is it through trading or grinding or anything - you will know and the player doing this will have a last time a party and/or somebody who trusts him in trades

PARTLY…
this is the difference between gamers today, and gamers a decade ago. (also applies in real life, etc)

people have less respect for others. there’s no consequences, so why should they care if it gets in someone else’s way, as long as they get what they need.

society divides people into the winners and losers. “if you’re not first, you might as well be last.” extreme competitiveness, even in activities designed to be “fun”. it was barely even a week from release, and there were already Fencers (rank 6.), a week and a half and i heard people claiming to be 280. (were they actually? who knows, it was shout chat.) but they simply -had- to get there right away. [so what do they do now, in week 3? or for the next several years?]

AND PARTLY…
Nostalgia; we forget the bad things and remember the good. RO was not as good as we remember, and there were more problems than we remember. (KS’ing was everywhere in RO, but we don’t want to remember that.)

Personally, I’m an archer, and if I killsteal, it’s 99% unintentional. Long range, aoe/bounce shots and skill spamming make it so that I sometimes may hit other people’s mobs. Killing enemies is generally quicker here than in RO, even if their respawn rate is slower.

Then there’s moments where I’m not sure if a person is mobbing, or just overwhelmed by a mob (happens to me on occassion), and if I should help and and save them, or if I’d be ksing. I even more so wonder that when a person drags a mob bigger than 6 monsters across the map (since you can’t pull them far from their spawn zone anyway, so what are you trying to pull?).

When I mob as an archer, I just pull some mobs in my view range aggro until I have enough for barrage (5+ monsters) and then spam my skills and killing them takes mere seconds. If you need longer to kill your mob, what are you trying to accomplish? Maybe rather focus on single target? That’s less risk of someone stealing your kills too.

Of course, there’s also those assholes that really don’t care or that actually have fun ksing. But you can find those in all MMOs.

I also get ksed sometimes, which is annoying, but I quickly move on.

(I do feel sorry for you slow-damage heal/supports though. My condolences…)

Sincerelly, to turn KS into somewhat a pro, every players involved on the battle should get the same reward, much like Trove.
So one may KS the other and no one gets to complain.

Only problem is that if you propose something like this in here like i did time ago… oh man you’re so going to get it by the fanboys of the game that’ll tell you that you understand nothing of this game… you want to turn the game into a casual game instead of an hardcore game… you want to ruin everything… etc etc etc

who cares other game did it and the mechanic was succesfull… it would suck to have it

Well, if players want to play single player, they can be happy botting on Ragnarok Online, this is Tree of Savior.

Also, Kill Stealing may also lead a player to enter in a party, or because of the player ability, or because the player got tired.

It’s up to everyone to be “the better player” and respect the other players.

We provably can’t change people’s minds with words, but maybe through example we can help incite more people to be “the better player”.

Tbh I like the “rule” we had on Tibia:

You get the spot first then it is all yours until you left. If another one comes you just deal with how much time you’ll be there.

But this isn’t possible on ToS as there’s no room, spots or channels for this. In most really grinding places it is like or either you’re alone or either nobody gets any good exp. It ends up being a lose-lose if everyone is in the same spot, you get in like 2 hours the experience you would get in 40 minutes, scale this to days and you’ll have a lot of lost time.

To be sincere, I can’t give a solution to this nor I know a fix. It’s just that I won’t leave a really 3-hour good grinding place because someone just got there nor would I accept getting that low exp that doesn’t worth grinding. By following the Tibia rule I would just stay there and ks if I need.

I can’t imagine like, 4 parties grinding in the same place in Dina Bee Farm. Would they all really like it? Would the first party leave just because someone went there, even if they are still getting constant experience?

It cannot be helped and it needs something like a game content fix by IMC but I don’t think it’s going to happen on older/current content.
