Just switched from wizard to swordsman for a change, what a difference

I struggled in the beginning (I’m 60ish now so I guess it’s stilll early gameplay) as a Pyro a lot because I was so squishy and my damage was really meh (I went 3INT:2CON:1SPR, with focus on CON in the beginning). I’m a PyroLinker now and it’s gotten a lot better because I link and fireball everything, but I still feel really squishy at times despite my plate armor.
Anyhow, I saw clerics and swordsmen breeze through everything and I decided to try it myself.

Holy moly, it is so much easier. I’ve never come close to dying and I only put points in STR so far. One of my Highlander skills one shots every boss. And my basic attacks has AOE damage which makes a big group of mobs a non issue, I really wish my Pyro had some splash damage on the basic attacks at least. The flow of the gameplay feels so much better, I was pretty unhappy as a wiz because I had to run to get some distance from my enemies and myself all the time, which made gameplay long and clunky.

I’m a little sad now though because my wiz is my main, but I’m not sure if I can go back to that when this is so much ‘flowier’.
Am I the only one who has experienced this difference? Or do I just suck as a wiz? Will gameplay get harder for a swordsman than for a wiz at some point?

I’m playing as a Psychokino currently at a level 72 with cloth armor. (Cloth armor is leveled to somewhere around 4 or 5 can’t remember.) I ignored others build ideas and stats and went my own way against what is suggested. I know there are others that are probably going to “wtf” or “you messed up” when it comes to how I built my character but I went with 3INT:3CON:1SPR until my CON hit 40. I haven’t decided if I want more yet. I don’t feel all that squishy and can usually survive a boss alone only using one health potion with no need for heal potions against normal monsters. I also upgrade all my equipment to +3 at the very least. I normally play clerics in games but I actually like Wizards in this one.

Well, I am playing a Wizz as main and I am liking a lot.

I don’t think swordman is any superior in the early game, just the Dash advantage =D. But I wouldn’t say that u suck at Wizz too, since I didn’t see you playing… Probably is just a matter of PlayerStyle.

I’m the same usually, however I do light a bonfire rather often. My CON is 34 atm.
I haven’t actually upgraded any of my gear because I wasn’t sure how much of a difference it would make.
My main peevee is mostly the endless kiting, I can’t really stay still and hit the mobs for a longer time because my HP ticks away really fast if so. It’s the kiting that makes grinding and questing that much slower.

ur highlander skill is catar stroke, its not that strong later on xD

to play pyro u need linker so u can joint penalty monsters, dont worry, magic classes get OP later

its ironic because later on you will feel the exact same way as a swordsman as you did in the beginning as wizard :^)

It seems like you need to learn how to play a wizard correctly.

I am a Linker now which is a big relief, but it feels like I’m mostly linking+fireball which is a little boring at times but I guess it’ll get more exciting later

I kind of hope so lol, I put in a lot of effort on my wiz. But at the same time I’m really starting to like my Highlander x)

enjoy breeze until 200 where wiz started to shine

Both are fun but as you level a swordsman class higher and higher you’l start to realise that the only thing you really do well is absorb damage, where as a wiz if built for damage generally just does more and more damage.

I tried looking for a good vid to look at what I’m doing wrong, but it doesn’t look like I do. I think maybe I just don’t like the gameplay of wizards?

Like normally if I’m going to kill a lot of mobs, I give myself the enchant fire and shield buffs, plant fireballs, link and lure them into the balls. If they’re any remaining I either flameground them or basic attack them until dead. It’s just that I have to kite a lot in that last step so they don’t tick too much at my HP.
Does this sound wrong?

Huh, then I have a long way to go before my wiz shine then. I hope I can get through those 140 levels haha!

Does this mean Highlander was a meh choice? If what they do best is tank, shouldn’t a tankier class have been more optimal?

Not really, but you generally kill things very fast by keeping them in flameground/fireball.

You will have a easier time in dungeon as pyro than a swordsman.

I’ve never played highlander so i cant speak for the damageo, I do know however that end game wizard builds when done correctly are by far and large superior to swordsman builds.

I assume swordsman dps builds are sub optimal but I have no idea if that’s true. Most of the swordsmen I’ve seen post-200 are tanks

Heh, I’m not much of a pvp person so I think that would be okay. Kind of interested in the guild wars though.

That’s a relief to hear. It’s just those darn annoying flying mobs that don’t get damage from flameground that makes my life harder haha. There’s been a lot of those lately.

Hmm, I hope my Highlander/Squire won’t be too useless. I’m not much for choosing hybrid classes but I was sort of going for a DPS/support money making alt heh.

Im sure if theyre linked they’ll still be damaged

If they’re linked to a non flying mob, yes. I usually put flameground on a walking mob and link it to flying mobs nearby, sometimes that not possible though.

well if u build the swordsman the right way it will shine forever =)
(like my main 2h sword master)

Easiest two classes is Archer and Cleric.
Archer for damage and killing things before they’re a problem. Cleric because of its overall cost effectiveness, self-efficient and its good in pvp so it’s proficient in both areas of the game as well as highly desirable for parties due to a lack of them. Varied in having multiple dps routes while still possessing powerful support routes and utility.

One of the best swordman builds for damage is sword->peltasa->hoplite3->dopplesoldner->dragoon. Hoplite3 has one of the best swordsman skills for damage and it has 0 cooldown and is spamable, its also ranged. dopple has deeds of valro which grants up to a 50% dmg boost with only circle 1 dopple, and dragoon has the hardest hitting swordman skills, as well as allowing hoplite to now use 2 hand spears to dps with. Lets not forget dopples Cyclone which is pretty much the best aoe swordsman has. While hoplite doesn’t super shine till hopelite3, once you hit that your a god. Also with peltasa in the build, I can aoe provoke 11 targets, hit C to guard, and if I am tanking I do not use finestra since it kills evasion. When finestra is down and I hold c to guard, most enemys around my level can’t even hit me, they get blocked or dodged by me like I am a ninja. Dps wise, I easly out dps any other swordsman class, and the dps just gets better the higher I go in hopelite, then gets a huge boost once I get dopple and dragoon. Its pretty much the best overall build for the class for damage. And with the rank in Peltasa, I can actually main tank dungeons just fine with no problems.

Wizard is kinda reallly weak at low levels, mostly because of long cooldowns and not many skills to use. Even once they get rank 4 classes they are still kinda weak, my swordsman easly massivly outkills them still with just normal auto attacks. I can pull 20 mobs and 1 stabbing skill use usually kills all 20 in about 3 seconds or so, especally with finestra up where most hits are crits plus I get more aor ratio so I hit more at once.

However I can see wizard paying off later on once they got more skills and enough sp regen that they can sustain their spell casting. ProtipL if your a wizard, get 3 headgears and try to get good SP regen on all 3. You can easly get 120-150 sp/tick regen from yoru headgear 1,2 and 3 slots combined, which is PRETTY huge. I also reccomend 1 rank in linker for pretty much every wizard build, it just makes your life easier, and it’ll get you mass parties, lots of partys will take a rank 1 linker without caring what other classes you have, as long as you can link mobs and gather them.
