Just my concern about "Chatting"

This online game kind of boring because not much people is chatting around. Hehe. Well i love chatting with someone. Gamers are focusing on doing mission a lot. Sometimes when i say “Hi” there is no response from he/she. Well maybe they are busy doing something good? that is what i think. LOL

It’s also cultural. In some country if you say hello to somone that you wasnt introduce they can think " wtf this wierdo is talking to me "

it’s just a “hi” or “hello” you don’t need be fluent in english to guess what this is about…

the chat problem are you facing is a byproduct of game management. you are worried about a flat tire when the engine wont even start.

I’ve gotten quite a positive response when talking to random peeps.

  • “I love tacos” is a proper introduction in any culture lol.
  • Don’t just say hi and stay around like a weirdo.
  • if possible, start the conversation with the topic at hand. There’s no weather system in ToS,but it’s the equivalent of asking “how’s the weather?”.
  • If you get no reply, carry on.

Examples:

  • Would you help me report these bots?. Yes, I know it’s like praying but whatever.
  • Hi there, fellow cata (this one has a 100% success rate so far)
  • wanna party up? If I see someone having trouble killing some quest mobs
  • So, what are you farming? If it’s common and you have picked some up, might want to offer some, people happy over the smallest things
  • random comment related to a funny team or char name (saw a guy’s team named “Adobe” and the char name “Updates” and asked him if he’s trying to be annoying, we had a laugh. If you’re around, sup!)

Only a community makes a community. Don’t expect others to do what you wouldn’t.

This is the main reason you join a guild, so you always have people to talk to ingame.

well maybe most of the time i think i talk with botter. haha…need to find a good guild soon~~~what is taco? never heard b4.

i would love to chat but most of the time, i’m running around. i really wish there is an autorun, so i could chat while trying to 100% the map, without stopping.

the discord server is for you

Type ‘!! 18 year old female with webcam’ every time you enter a new map.

OMG. just now google what taco means. Haha. No wonder people will react to it. yeah it is really a good way to start a chat

This is the No. 1 reason I quit the game. It’s a few things actually doing this:

  • Chat filter is rubbish and unproductive.
  • Zero zone chats (Likely cuz there’s not actually any common zones. Players are always moving from zone to zone so what’s the point?)
  • Megaphone system was designed to combat RMT spam in shouts. I personally feel a built-in server-side spam filter would have been a better solution but whatever.
  • Then the combat system in dungeons/missions or even grinding parties is pretty action-based so players honestly don’t have time to type while fighting things (You literally have to come to a halt and do nothing while typing to others).
  • Dungeons/missions force players to actually go to the location of the dungeon/mission to use the “Search party” feature for it. On top of that, the dungeon queue seems to lock players in place unable to move so instead of talking in game people are probably alt tabbed out doing other things while waiting… even if they wanted to talk to others, chat filter annoys a greater majority of the population.
  • People are pretty bored with content of mission/dungeons after awhile and will just mindlessly slog through them not caring who anyone is around them so they can log off and do other things. (The “daily” dungeons/missions system creates this player mentality in every MMO I’ve ever played. No one actually has fun feeling obligated to do things in a video game.)
  • To add to the previous point: The search party feature gives 600% bonus xp GREATLY discouraging premade parties. Premade parties would have been a great social thing had they not been invalidated by game design decisions. (You will eventually get to a point like Earth Tower where premades are the only way you’ll have any chance but until then?)

Just my 2 cents but it’s really how I felt before making the conscious decision Tree of Savior wasn’t for me (and probably most MMOs these days too). But I still lurk on these forums, not nearly as active as I used to be hoping for IMC to breathe life back into the game somehow for players like me.

Actually, you can “create one”. I mean I spend most of my times in Fedimian and talking to people and lately there is quite a lot of people coming in the town channel 1 in the “plaza” to talk, afk, etc.

But yeah, it’s still only a dozen of players or maybe a little over twenty so truth is, it isn’t a lot. But it’s better than nothing.

As for the other points, I can only agree.

It’s funny I expected Fedimian to become that universal hangout spot for higher levels that you see in many MMOs. You know what I forgot to mention? Whenever lots of players are gathered around each other on screen the FPS drop is super annoying like… even my monsterous custom built gaming PC is just like switches out of channel 1.

I wonder if the FPS drops in higher populated areas would be the culprit to the social hangout spot issue. I know some people will choose less populated channels to socialize but it becomes kinda cryptic on where to find these people unless you just happen to stumble across it. I still feel the FPS thing is a big big problem.

I know this sounds arrogant, but I feel like 99% of the time talking to strangers in onlinegames is a waste of my time nowadays.

I enjoyed chatting a lot when I was younger (~14 to 20), but it got harder and harder for me to talk to people online when I got older. I felt like the conversations in onlinegames just got duller everyday.
Now that I’m in my thirties I usually just want to bang my head against a wall whenever I’m reading zone or guild chats.

I’m in my 30s and still enjoy non-toxic online game chats. Sounds like you’re aging into a grumpy person. Grumpy Mc. Grumpson LOL okay I’m done.

What I did grow out of was enjoying toxic drama in online game chats. I don’t mind casual ‘trolling’ where someone is just acting like an idiot it can be amusing to me still but the real toxic stuff you see in games like League was a nope factor for me. But people talking about random stuff in zone chats really excites me in online games.

Never know what people are going to be talking about and it’s always a new experience. I remember when Mor Dhona was the hangout spot in FFXIV I would just mine for hours reading the zone chat banter that went back and forth, sometimes join in with some sarcastic replies cuz that’s how I am lol.

FFXIV held my interest for 2 years before it become FFXIV - A Lockout Reborn. Ya know where you are paying monthly for a game to have your end-game advancement in EVERYTHING you do controlled by weekly lockouts lol.

Wish ToS would remove the chat filter and add a “Linkshell” system like FFXIV has I would reopen ToS and start playing again the same day if IMC did those things.
