Is there an exp penalty for killing enemies above your level?

Everywhere I look someone says something different. Apparently there was no exp penalty in iCBT, then there was a penalty for killing things 5 levels above yours, and then (supposedly) it was changed.

Now I don’t know… I’m hearing that it’s 10 levels above, or 20 levels above, but there’s no mention of an upwards exp penalty on the wiki (it just states that you don’t get a BONUS for killing enemies above your level).

Does anyone actually know for SURE? As in, 100%, not some “hey, my cousin’s brother’s dog’s wife overheard his neighbour lost exp” type answer lol

It should give you what EXP it’d give you if you kill it, but!

If you fight things 5 levels above you, they start getting bonus defense and attack stats, and this can increase upto 20 levels. I had to go through this during a mission: Leader was 20 levels above me, and I couldn’t do any damage to the boss at all unless absolutely buffed up max and critting, otherwise 1s just popped up.

I don’t think the EXP gets gimped, but killing is much harder and more tedious and punishing when the monster is high above you. Last night I caved to a friend who wanted me to carry them through the 50s dungeon. Me being like 3x+ that levels optimal level, meant I get nothing. But she still leveled as per normal, meaning that EXP is flat and aren’t influenced by people in your party.

Or atleast, I think as much anyway.

every level above 10 level is 5% exp penalty.

Up to max 20% EXP reduction :relaxed:

in mission, if your party member is above 10-15 lvls, you gain ~50% less exp. Confirmed.

From my own testing you get no xp at 23-24 lvl difference IIRC.

Additionally you can’t even damage mobs that are much higher than you to begin with. All dmg will be reduced to 1 automatically.

I’ve read pleople test party EXP sharing and they concluded that full EXP for every member is only achieved when the monsters killed are the same level as the mean level of the party members.
This is the post I’m talking about, check it out:

Thanks so much guys! That answers all of my questions… I’d like to choose someone’s reply as “solved” but I don’t know who to give it to :S
