Is saving cards really worth it?

I’ve seen many people talking about saving cards, and I would like to get some explanation on why would it be really worth it besides getting the psychological sensacional of progression going faster.
Like, may be better to level from 40 to 50 and then use cards to fasten it up the rest. But anyway it would always come back to the same grinding after the use of the card stacks and since you always keep every BASE exp when using the cards (for example using at 95% you still gonna get some % of the next level).

So, of course, there are three ways that saving cards may save you: First, mob density, to use the card stacks to pass over a map that you can’t grind cause there are too many people, so you grind on a more confortable one, and use the cards to hop over that crowded one. Second, do the same hop over, but one some map that may be specifically hard for you class/build, like a Pyromancer on a fire resistant map. Third, and most important to me, the Level difference penalty.

Now, that may be the most important part of the thread since I don’t know exactly how it works. Killing lower level mobs than you gives less exp than killing them at same level? I assume you get less exp if they are too high, but does this affect lower too, or is it just a impression cause of the exp tables?
Cause if not, I woudnt know why isnt better to just burn all cards, and them use the higher level to go back to the same map you would be grinding without cards on the other scenario, and just killing the monsters faster now.

Can someone bother to explain me in detail this level penalty or link me to somewhere, and then, try to convince me why would be better to save cards? I’m currently on lv100 as Quarrel Shooter (aka impossible mode) and would like to know more so maybe I decide to start saving.

[EDIT: TAKE A READ AT THE THREAD: THERE ARE SOME WRONG INFOS HERE]

There’s really no right or wrong here I think. The only times its straight up wrong to use cards immediately is when your character is at the lvl 15 class level cap, for obvious reasons. Also I can see it being useful saving cards for times where grinding is particularly difficult or problematic.

But for the most part I use cards right away. Saving does not increase the fixed value of the exp given, so saving or not saving them is based on their personal value to the player.

There is no penalty for killing mobs higher than you, but the other way around… yeah. The penalty starts at 5 levels of difference btw.

Basically you save cards if there’s good grinding spots around your level - it’s better to grind those than to out level them. Instanced dungeons in particular are REALLY good sources of exp - so you really wanna get it on that as much as you can instead of using cards and fly right past their level threshold.

this

lv100 as Quarrel Shooter

but i dont really care, saving exp cards is current high level 130+ meta from some guide i didnt bother to read. but when the game goes live saving exp cards would be a tactic for those who dont want to spend for the game. since its expected for any F2P mmo to have EXP boosters anyway.

Btw, http://toswiki.treeofsaviorgame.com/mechanic/experience

Save everything you get after level 130, the reason for this is because lvl 140 and lvl 170 mobs basically give the same amount of exp only problem is lvl 160+ maps doesn’t have a decent grinding spot unlike lvl 140~160 (demon district). Exp is reduced if you’re killing a mob that is below your level.

At 160~170 grinding in what is probably the best area isn’t as effective as before since your exp requirement is higher and the exp you get starts getting lower which means you have to find an alternative leveling route which again is hard to find and again the exp is more or less the same.

Using exp cards is the most effective way to avoid this exp wall and hopefully jump to 175 to be able to run the next dungeon. (160 dungeon doesn’t give exp, don’t know if this is a bug but a friend of mine told me the dungeon is for cosmetics).

Anything other than that saving cards pre 140 doesn’t really change anything.

Nope. I just use my cards to stay within 4 levels of mobs for best xp.

Well, if you are not a class capable of “overkilling” and you dont mind spending weeks and weeks grinding to hit level 200… Then yes.

Kyle is totally right… some ppl are stucked on lvl 160 to 175 because spent their cards and now it is too hard to level up.
The best way to go right now is level up as much as possible in demon district from 150 to 165, so you jump up to level 175…

It’s pretty simple. There’s lack of areas where you can level efficently and it’s better to use these cards when there are no good monster spots in your level range. Nothing more.

Wait, If I’m saving every card I get from 130+, where do I level at 130-140? 140-166 is at demon prison level 2, but before that?

starving demons way, altar, crossroads, prayer + resident + daily instance runs.

then zombie grind with all the sad nolifers @ demon prison.

does IMC not see a flaw in that? lv140 mobs giving the same xp as lv 160?

I too believe its a flaw, many people are already requesting for better xp scaling. I also think they should just make the 160 dungeon into an exp one but then what would happen at levels say 300~400 so alot really needs rethinking.

So, for someone like me, a lvl 110 cryo>psycho c2, can I just use all my cards without any regret and get to 130 as fast as possible? I’ve been keeping a lot of cards without knowing if it was the right time to use them, so now I have around 70 lvl 5 cards and 80 lvl 6 cards lol

Because leveling to 60 is easy without cards. And then you can punch cards, to get these pesky last levels till job change.
When you ran out of quests to do.

remember, if your 5 levels to high or to low towards an monster, you will get a malus on exp or the will get a buff on their stats.

SO just try to keep being in range somehwat.

You only get exp penalty for killing mobs that are below your current level, killing mobs above your level is ok.

The xp amount remains the same, but

  1. it saves you in the future, say you’re lazy or just stumped in leveling or can’t find a good spot/map to grind/quest.
  2. Allows you to exploit grind spots (e.g. Tenet Chapel) longer
  3. Allows a handy regen when bossing

Don’t save your level 1 and 2 exp cards. The rest of the cards you will want to save depending on your play times and class builds. The act of saving cards is dependent on your ability to farm effectively which varies depending on the player. You spend cards based on the fact that you are unable to endure the grind and wish to skip levels so that you may grind in a more favorable environment. Favorable environments would include high mob density, mobs vulnerable to your attack/damage type, and mobs with a decent loot table. All this also includes the fact that you have made peace with supporting your addiction to drinking HP/SP pots. First you drink the pots and only after you have fully embraced these liquids can you move onto the next exp doping methods. The consumption of exp cards on a basic level only allow you to drink your precious pots in a different place and time. Why use the exp cards when you are grinding effectively and quickly at your current location? You don’t know if the next location will be so kind to you and exp cards are your escape.

tl;dr: I’ve told you nothing that you didn’t already know yourself.

Not an Exp penality.
But an STAT penality.

Higher leveld Mobs get a buff on their stats, when you fight them.

Even when the mob has like 100 def only. You might experience 300~500 def duo Level difference.

I hit Level 120+ Mobs with 1 dps per Auto atk. And i know that it should be 200ish from their def value ^^.
