Is overupgrading weapons still a thing to negate missile damage penalty on monster size?

TOSbase wiki http://wiki.tosbase.com/wiki/Damage_Type states that missile attacks…

  • Suffers a 25% damage penalty against M size enemies.
  • Suffers a 50% damage penalty against L size enemies.
  • Suffers a 50% damage penalty against XL size enemies.

But I read somewhere not long ago that this has been changed (the % values at least). I did search around the forums and google for a solid answer but can’t find any.

What are the new penalty values? Would over-enhancing weapons negate these penalties?

Thanks in advance.

It’s now 10% against medium, 15% against large/xl.

Anvil upgrades still mitigate the penalty. I see no difference in mitigation after +5, but your mileage may vary.

Having an anvil upgraded crossbow paired with a cannon mitigates the penalty for cannoneer skills. I assume it’s the same for SR skills.

Really appreciate you mentioning that since I just got to Cannoner w/ my main.

Some followup questions:

1. At what specific upgrade level should the mainhand weapon be?

I read in some other threads it should be +8 (or was it +7?).

2. Does the cannon need to be upgraded as well or the mitigation automatically applies to its damage when a sufficiently upgraded mainhand xbow is equipped alongside?

so does that mean a +5 level 40 bow is better than a +0 level 75/120 bow?

I don’t notice a difference after +5, but that’s just my experience and maybe a higher level is required to fully mitigate.

The cannon does not need to be upgraded, just xbow is enough. I have however not tested if an upgraded cannon/subweapon alone will provide mitigation.

It depends. Generally, yes, unless the raw damage improvement of the 75/120 bow is more significant than mitigating the penalty with a lower level crossbow.
