I’ve played ToS for a while when it was released and enjoyed it, but stopped due to several things - mainly bots (and thanks to them broken economy), relatively small ammount of players and bad matching system. How does it look now? Anything improved?
A lot has improved, can’t really list them since it’s changed so much since launch (depends when you stopped playing). Still has its problems and the community is small but It’s still fun.
Dungeon and Mission queues are better but since there’s less people sometimes you may need to use a microphone and shout for people.
when did you last play? I just came back like a week ago and I can say it’s much better than when I left (esp the fps).
Better gears right now are more accessible even if you don’t go full BiS you can still make do. Plus I guess the silver from 290 dungeon helps too.
Less bots compared to back then, but they’re still pretty much around.
You should give it a shot.
I stopped playing in October. Someone linked me steam chart which shows that number of people playing is terribly low ;( And keeps getting lower … I guess I’ll have to w8 for some new MMO and hope that this time it will be worth playing (Bless and Dragons Dogma Online looks promising).
What level are you in right now? True, it doesn’t have the “MMO” atmosphere as of right now, tbh I just want to park my char in a good place right now til newer content but TBL is starting to get fun for me.
Depends on what you’re looking for I guess, I suggest you peek inside and get a feel for yourself.
Afair the highest char was around 230 (228 or 238 actually) - W3/Ele3/WL.
if anything i feel that the matching got worse since the playerbase reduces weekly, there are still many bots in the game just not as much, i wouldn’t blame the bots for quitting as well LOL
i would still not play without the bots because they don’t have any fun pve content or pvp content to keep me interested… i also don’t feel like grinding multiple alts to lv.300 or kill thousands of monsters for one drop either.
Save your soul and do not return here ever again
you should at least try r8 and see to your liking if you got the time.
Hmm Lets see, I’ll list several things that they’ve improved upon since launch (just off the top of my mind):
-
Lots of class fixes and buffs. Too long to list, but every swordsmen class was garbage for example. Lots of classes still need work though.
-
Leveling experience is much more fluid and enjoyable. More quests, less grinding.
-
Dungeons and Missions always worth doing now. Double exp.
-
Can queue as a group and with friends now.
-
Controller more optimized. Moving skills and Transforming works properly.
-
More gear options to fill in the gaps.
-
High level maps better balanced, less magic resist and less magic damage.
-
You can see invested stats.
-
Collection Tab UI improvement.
-
Characters no longer randomly walk around in your Lodge.
-
Installations (Aukuras or Diev Statues for example) no longer get knocked back.
-
Better FPS. Still lots of room for improvement.
-
Quest items are almost always shared now, when one person gets a quest item from a kill for example your other group members do too.
-
Cube rerolls much cheaper for nearly every dungeon.
-
Dina Bee afkers getting wrecked by Grim Reaper.
-
DPK reworked.
All I can think of right now, there’s probably a lot more. So yes, quite a bit has improved actually. I’m not entirely defending this game either, it has a ton that still needs to be fixed or redesigned but to say that the game hasn’t actually improved a lot is just inaccurate.
Welp,
I came back. This time as a #casual
The population increase is inversely proportional to the number of improvements the game received.
Logic follows, ToS will be perfect when we have only a single player: me.
I agree they should have been there then but it doesn’t mean improvement didn’t happen from where we started. It’s not logical to discredit any improvement by just saying that it should have already been there.
While I was away they added Hunting Grounds and the Hethran Badges, which to me seem rather cool. I love hunting out in the world, not stuck in some dungeon chore like daily experience. Also making 280+ zones solo friendly is a welcome plus.
However the items you gain from Hunting Grounds and Badges are really weak. They have some of the weakest stats I’ve seen by far. Some of the necklaces seem to take a long time to make and aren’t even as good as a Max Petamion.
The game still has Transcendence, which ruins all their other fixes.
Transcendence means:
- Do Saalus 1465x times to achieve anything.
- Meta builds > all other builds.
- Breaks the damage formulas.
- Is the real end game.
All in all the end game of TOS is to run 290 every day and Saalus. If you hate your life you can also do ET, provided you find 4 people who will take you in.
If they keep adding on top of the Hunting Grounds and Badge system, remove the retarded Transcending system and balance classes and damage around non-transcended gear, then you have a solid fun MMO. Small changes to classes can come after but not before. It’s too big of a thing and it’s too Korean for me.
I don’t want to waste my life away running 8x alts through Saalus to dump it all on one character. It’s mind numbing, boring and a chore. However what I don’t mind doing is going out in a hunting ground, fighting mobs for loot and silver and exp and then heading back town to discover my findings.
I don’t mind the badges either, some random drops that get me a random quest that slowly creeps me closer to an item upgrade that I can go at my own pace and not a 0/2 dungeon pace on a leash? Sounds good.
I am not asking them to rework how dungeons work. For those who want to suffer 35+ ET floors every day for 2 months to get a set of armor that makes them unkillable is fine. It’s their reward. It’s a team effort and they deserve it. However I don’t want to spend all my time running Saalus to get a Stage 10 weapon, only to find out during my farming IMC decides to nerf a core skill to the dirt again and now I’m stuck with a character that has all my funding on it.
Also implement the bloody class reset already. Don’t make it some 500 TP thing either. I hate hearing about “an event” that gave out 1 stat reset potion when I got 8x character that all needed one. No way I’m spending 100$ to reset one of them, let alone 800$ for all of them because IMC sucks at balancing. Rerolling you say? Yes, please tell me how much fun it is to go through the same quest lines for the 10th time doing the same quests in the same locations because IMC decides to put in an Agny necklace that changes how wizards work?
All in all TOS feels like a mess but IMC has put some serious effort into fixing it and improving it. There is a sparkle of hope for this game, because they are doing stuff. Just not the right stuff. The good stuff. Just stuff. Random stuff. Ignoring the players and doing their own stuff. Like I’m 100% sure the pleas for nerfing Necromancer AFK farming abilities and making them active farmers will go unheard.
I remember when it took like 1 minute for a conversation with NPCs to pop up, and boss bullet hell crashing the game constantly, or when you always had to make pre-made parties for dungeons.
I recently Returned about 2 weeks or so ago after about 8 or so months of not playing, created a new character in varena for abit of a sea change (get it), im not to sure if its been like this for anyone else but upon returning my fps is always at 60 which is amazing when on the same laptop i was had to turn down settings to get it to stay constant, also my ping is usually at 16 and im from australia, im guessing the sea servers are located in australia? either way that makes the game sooooooo much playable for me.
IN SAYING ALL THAT, the game feels really empty, the population is pretty low even being on varena which is meant to be the most populated (correct me if im wrong) server and they should probably server merge a few of the servers, i dont see the point in 2 na and 2 sea servers when the game is barely getting 5k concurrent players according to steam.
i find the game fun, but dont know if ill commit to much
The Improvement over the year isn’t worth celebrating about. I’m not discrediting the minor fixes, but seriously they are band-aid fixes.
If you want to keep throwing money at IMC for their very slowly improving game, I’m not stopping you, nor anyone.
nice long list of stuff that should be in the game at launch, i call these basic features of a 2017 mmo not “improvements”. Now think about how long they will take to implement real improvements.
How orsha server feels like compared to “dead” varena… But there are fools who keep insisting the server is not dead because a handful of guilds are still getting requests to join
I returned out of boredom to what expected to be a long-dead server (Fedimian). On the contrary, I found game to be very much alive and improved in several faculties. The populace did decrease substantually, but so far (~266 lvl with a fresh start) I had no trouble with dungeon/mission/grind parties. And for specialized content like 5v5 pvp matches (sadly, those don’t seem to happen often) ppl use server-wide discord (why some ppl still didnt join it is beyond me) and a lot of megaphones.
It is obvious IMC doesn’t care much about iToS, but the game lives on Nexon money and out of kToS and jToS. iToS monetization wildly failed IMO, and servers themselves seem to operate erratically. But at least we now have live GMs who you can sometimes talk to while in-game, I hope they are at least paid for what they do.
Overall, I think the game has set a more-or-less stable course for improvement, though I doubt they will ever be able to solve all of the problems servers like Fedimian have (that is - frequent lag and some ppl report that jToS and kToS even have better FPS in crowd for unknown reason).
So far, I’m glad I’ve returned.
Truth be told most of the videos you see from Koreans and Japanese who have 60 FPS have insanely good hardware.
I’m not kidding. They will play the game with GTX Titans and the latest CPU’s. They don’t spare any expenses when it comes to PC hardware.
That being said I like everything you said. If this April 3rd news is also positive I might return to play casually again.
