Improvements the Sorcerer class should recieve

This is my favorite class, and am happy to play it, but… It’s a class that really needs a lot of love as it doesn’t even really feel finished. Circle 3 especially seems rushed and completely untested.

The summoning sp regen negation, in my opinion, is a bad idea. I think just having a % drain in and of itself would have been suitable. I realize that they are worried about afk farmers, but this heavy handed attitude towards the playerbase to take care of a potential issue is a pattern I really wish they would stop. Stopping a few exploiters at the inconvenience of everyone else is not the makings of a good solution.

The summon Salamion skill really should have its attack speed buffed as well. I think at minimum, a summon skill should result in a creature as strong as a basic auto attacker. I can literally hit 4+ times per every 1 time this summon attacks with the magic basic attack which is slower than melee hits.

The entire toolkit of command skills is very flawed to me. The Attack command should result in your summon engaging and attacking whatever was targeted until it’s dead. Not just go there, attack a few times and run back. Hold, is buggy. It sometimes causes the summon to just not do anything. Ride, is the worst yet. 95% of all the skills are horrible to begin with. Single hitting skills need to be reworked to do more than the basic attack, like really. Also, riding on your summon shouldn’t result in you taking all the damage the summon takes. You can’t use any of your abilities while mounted and your sp drains extremely fast while mounted. Thus, there is no reason why the summon can’t take all the damage, or at least 75% of it.

Mutate is good in concept, but they really need to buff some of the other summons or give them unique properties for this to be utilized better. E.g. giving the spider a poison DoT would be really cool.

And now we get to the worst part of Sorcerer, circle 3. The two new skills they added to the class is proof that they rushed this class and don’t care about polishing it. They are complete jokes, insults even. You have one skill that hits once for a few thousand. At rank 7, single hitting aoes that don’t do at least 20k+ are worthless unless they have low cooldowns or good overheats. Evocation does neither. It only hits like 3~6k. It’s such garbage that I honestly can say circle 1 wizard energy bolt is more useful. That’s just pathetic.

Desmodus at least hits a couple of times, but it isn’t much better.

The obvious thing they should of added for circle 3 was a costly second shadow summoning. Letting you have both primary and secondary summons out at once with a higher sp tax. That is what Evocation should be.

Desmodus, it would be okay if it was like, 1 + skill level hits with a overheat of 3 and maybe some sort of attribute to give it a unique effect like life drain or something since it has to do with bats.

While I know Sorcerer isn’t the only class that needs some polish, I do strongly feel that Sorcerer is up there. Not to say it is a useless class atm, just that it’s very unpolished and clearly unfinished even if it isn’t acknowledged as unfinished officially.

To sum up the changes I recommend from my experience with the class now and in previous game tests:

• Remove the SP Regen negation for the Summoning skill, raise the sp drain instead.

• Boost the Summon Salamion skill’s summon’s attack speed to be more comparable to a player’s.

• The skill, Attack Ground, should be reworked for the Summon to offensively engage with a selected target until it is destroyed.

• The skill, Hold, should have its bugs fixed.

• The skill, Ride, should be reworked so that when mounting the summon, the summon absorbs most of the damage taken. Also, the skills available while mounted should be greatly buffed as to be more powerful than the basic attack in general.

• The skill, Morph, should be made more useful by buffing older summons while adding new ones that are competitive in usefulness. I gave an example of a poison DoT for the spider summon for this.

• The skill, Evocation, should be reworked to allow you to summon your secondary summon with an appropriate cost.

• The skill, Desmodus, should be reworked to allow for more hits the further you level it with the ability to overheat the skill. Adding a unique attribute to the skill might be a good idea as well.

• And an honorable mention is the special attribute for Summon Familiar, Splash. I feel that the % chance to give the bats splash should be much higher than currently as it barely ever goes off as of now. Rather than 5% at max level, I think 25% at max level would be much more appropriate.

These changes would make the class feel complete, well-balanced to other better polished classes, and encourage a standard of quality for polishing other classes as well.

I agree with everything you posted as much as i enjoy summoning things this class needs some stuff reworked and looked at.
Doubleing the pet tether range would be nice to that way sorcerer can range without the pet stopping it attacks on bosses.

yea sorcerer needs a lot of work… I’m not going to play this class till much later…

So much agreed.

Sorcerer feels Kind of not finished/reasoned. Skills need to be reworked.
And there should be some way to Control the Summon on c1.

You Kind Sir/madam get my honest like and support.

Have a nice day

Problematic to balance in itself. Instead of a percentage based drain, a fixed number drain would be more suitable. Whatever the amount.
Percentage based drain would result in your mana pool being obsolete. No matter how much sp you have, summons would last a set amount of time. This would ofc open the door to full int build abuses because why have anything invested in spirit and mana if it lasts the same amount of time and i can relocate those points do deal 600 or whatever damage extra?

Salamion’s issue in my eyes is not its low damage potential but its low hp and general fragility. Even if it would deal 10 times the damage it does currently, it would be still obsolete in most boss fights.
But thats just my opinion.

This i whole heartedly support. Especially in c1 where you do not have access to commands, the AI is ridiculously flawed, constantly running after you instead of dealing damage.
There needs to be a specific attack order which lets the summon attack that one specific target till its dead.

Agreed.

With all cards using only their auto attack, this skill is pretty much useless.
It comes into play only when you have a higher leveled card and wish to transfer stats.
Handy at the beginning but once you have a couple of fully leveled cards, there is hardly any point to it, so yes: Summons them self need a lot more tinkering, especially considering that there are only like 3 out of 50 which are usable currently. cough temple shooter cough.

Agreed.

Something you forgot to mention:

Balance and fix the damn summons. They are in pre-alpha state.
Some of the cards such as shadowgaler or knocker are so broken that their attack range does not match with the hitbox itself, resulting in the summon running up to something and attacking it, but never hitting it, because its out of range.

There is also the fact that literally 95% of the summons are so devoid of any potential that they are trash.
There are a couple of cards worth of use and even those can be thrown out the window if you involve temple shooter, making the entire sorcerer class a glorified display case for that one single damn card: temple shooter. Thats all the entire summon class is about. Its beyond ridiculous.

Its obvious that nobody on the dev team bothered to look at the summon cards since the start of the beta session.
Mind tho: The last thing i would want is to make all summons and cards have the same uniform/universal attacks/stats/etc, reducing the entire summon system to a difference in appearances.
No. Involve the skills these bosses had.
Reduce their damage, balance them, bind them to the amount of stars a card has. However, involve them somehow. Otherwise Sorcerer will be lack luster as hell.
This temple shooter display case thing needs to have an end. Somebody needs to take a long, hard look at cards and revamp them from the ground up.

One simple fix would be to have the bosses automatically use their boss skills again like in the cbt but make so you need either 6 or 11 point invested in summoning to happen. this would keep people from abusing sorcerer C1 but maybe make some of the other boss cards useful again.

You can also add card level to that. Because the stars/level you have a card needs to actually mean something.

There is a bit of a misconception about why the skills were taken away and the auto attack buffed and completely replacing skill use. The skills were so bad that they were holding back the summon. Spamming a bunch of long wind-up skills that do about the same damage as a basic attack is worse than it just spamming its basic attack at an increased speed. The skills would need to be heavily modified in several ways to make it an actual benefit for skills to be used automatically by the AI again.

The auto attack change was merely their way of “fixing it” which is sad because that means they already know that the Ride command is extremely flawed at the moment and yet still haven’t done anything about it. I really think it’s going to take community focus to get them to not put these changes off. Yes, having to modify separate versions of boss skills for summoning use is a daunting task, and yet, a necessary one. A boss vs. player damage and cast time formula simply doesn’t translate well into a player vs. pve one.

Good to know. I didnt actually play in the cbt but i saw some videos. Its a shame that they just decided to buff auto attacks rather than fix the real issue.

As a sorcerer +1 to everything said in this topic, also would like to see the annoying auto-target priority behaviour with sorcerer summons to be removed…

Hi, here to inquire about the source for evocation damage, I’ve been trying to look for info about it and I never had any luck except for the skill video at tosbase.com
Do you mind sharing where you got that 3k-6k damage range for evocation? also what cards were used?

Making boss cards sellable on marketplace/tradable is something that should happen as well.

Here you go. The summon used looks like Temple Shooter.
