English is not my first language, so please forgive me my grammar!
The first international beta near’s it’s end. I played for only 3 days, because I got the key in the second batch.
So I don’t got so many thoughts and feeling about the content above lvl 30 upwards.
Tree of Savior is my 5-6th MMORPG and I never played RO, so I gonna oriented my review more towards WoW, Aion and Tera in comparrison about game mechanics and features.
I start of with the graphics. The art style is very nice and charmful, sometimes a bit static, but most of the time through action and moving objects is seems very lively. Maybe some more animations for monster death’s and NPC gestures.
The character artwork is well done and thanks god not sexualized.
Overall the graphic is pretty good and very unique. Love it!
Next is music and sfx in this game. To me, this category is very important, because without good sfx and music a game is less interesting and memorable (and sometimes even not playable thanks to 20s song loops…).
And man this game have the best music of all MMORPGs I played! The music for every map is very suitable, boss battle music also have a very high action feel. The lenght of each song is very good, so less loops and more interesting atmosphere. The sfx is also very great and every skill seems to have his own nice sfx.
Now I talk about the story/dialogues. Well, now its get a bit downwards. It’s till lvl 30 pretty standard and nothing special, the dialogues are sometimes pretty funny. The idea with the goddesses seems good overall, but it have much room for improvements. I hope for some twists, horrible deaths and emotional scenes. Would be very appropriate, because the world is overrun by monster’s and the story website give us are pretty awesome intro (Intro ToS
It’s hard to tell something about the content of this game, because it’s has a lvl cap of 500. So I can only speak from watching some high leveled players in the kcb. The 80 classes are pretty awesome and unique feature of the game, but it’s seems that every class have only 1-2 very good skills, so people dont use the others. Also the characterization is a bit low visual wise. It’s would be cool if the armor art change then you change your gear. Actual only weapons art change. The gems, card battle (more RNG then tactic) and companions are nice, but nothing special. I don’t like the idea of class-specific consumable crafting, but well… And I heard that more content is coming so it should be enough.
Now comes the core of the game: It’s combat (gameplay) and controls. I never played an only keyboard mmorpg, and now I am sad about it. The control and gameplay felt very great, the combat it not to slow or to fast, it’s near perfect. I tried to play with the mouse, but it’s felt extremly unfit. I was to lazy to test the game with a Ps3/Ps4 controller, so I cannot say something about that, but it’s great to have this feature!
The difficulty level of the bosses seems okay, sometimes theyre are a bit to tanky. Exp rates could be a little higher, I was sometimes a bit to underleveled (2-4 levels), but it was okay for me. All in all is the gameplay of ToS great, because of the challenging boss fights.
My impression ends and I must say that Tree of Savior is a very great quality MMORPG for the western market. Through the uniqueness it should be a refreshing, new experience for MMORPG fans.
