IMC's fanart event is bias af

I suppose so, then. I figured that IMC was picking for uniqueness, refinedness, and effort for the sake of the game’s population’s enjoyment, not what they personally just liked for themselves. I’ve done commissions/bribes/etc before, I accepted it easily if I wasn’t picked over others because that’s just what this one person wants. But a whole company in the face of a an entire game’s population just didn’t strike me the same way.

shrugs. I’m not going to continue drawing for IMC in any case, so this doesn’t really concern me anymore, but I just get really defensive of others with spectacular art.

I will admit that maybe I’m actually the biased one because I’ve copied moe styles for fun and seen it garner a much bigger reaction just for the sake of being moe, when it took me not even half as much effort or skill to do.

like this:

took me like 30 mins, while my other art takes an upwards of like 9 hours. I guess I’m just bitter about it heh.

I remember those times when people joke about IMC not having new loading screens when there is a scheduled maintanance. Now there are people complaining which ones are better or not. well i guess IMC fixed an old small issue there.

About who wins and to those who loses, is all about a matter of opinion. you think some are better? well maybe the judges dont think so. maybe the judges are not ART MAJORs like everyone else. maybe they are random guys that like wierd or different art styles than every one else. or maybe their criteria is different.

This is definitely like watching the emmy’s, grammy’s or even anime awards, that when the one you really believe that would win loses, it just means EVERYBODY ELSE’S TASTES SUX EXCEPT YOURS.

In the end i dont think this is biased at all.
A company that is biased to a point of risking whatever trust they still have on its players for 30$ worth of tp… come on man…
These guys are just regular people with regular jobs(staff/dev). not unless they get benefits from being biased right? or maybe laziness? i dont know.

oh well, if you guys still thinks that a company will be biased towards a bunch of random guys across the globe with 0 benefits, maybe its time to stand up from your computer chair, look in the mirror and tell yourself, “sh*t, illuminati confirmed”,

They shouldn’t. The people who put in more time and effort will most likely have a better chance to win, but all IMC should care about is how well it fits the criteria they put forward.

and they deserve it. trust me they do. the prize is not even worth that much time.

This feels like writing for contests, if you make a hell of a work but goes away from the theme you simply lose a huge amount of points that can make you not win even with a really well written text. Simply because criteria :x

I’m more worried about my loading screen be stuck forever again. Usually happens around when they switch them up. Grats to the winners though.

I believe, this is the thread i got PM about.

I know Chili and Chenna who have also participated before.

I also participated and agree there are some that definetly deserve to win from an “art” perspective.

But im also aware the drawings have to fit the desired “theme” around the game. And thats to the judges to choose.

I have no problem the same person winning, if nobody can beat him. But if he wins with pieces not even related to TOS, then it is a bit redicolous :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t have a problem with someone winning more than once, especially if it’s good and fits the theme. As for them being biased, yeah they probably are? I mean that’s kinda of how art contest go. If someone likes a style, they will always pick that style.

I won’t lie, I was surprise to not see certain pieces… Like really surprised. cough linhmbl’s art cough Though many of the art that won, I knew would.

Personally I don’t think I would enter again because what I did took a week to do and I don’t like spending that much time LMAo. Plus I hate working on those type of wallpaper dimensions. (I totally will do more ToS art in the future though)

I mean many of us enjoy ToS cause of the art style but a lot of people could disagree on this and would rather play a game with a modern art style. Same can go for art submissions right?

In any style of art technical best isn’t always the most deserving or best, it’s technically really good but it might lack ‘‘soul’’ which makes people fall in love with a less technically perfect work. Not saying these good artworks lack it or anything just saying there’s variety of reasons why the outcome is the way it is.

Also they can only choose around 10 winners(edit 13 this time apparently lol) I think they have said before that it’s extremely difficult to choose.
Also I think that they might want to include a couple not so technically well done arts to support everyone’s possibilities to take part in the event and being able to win a prize without being the most talented artist here.
(This was never a competition of the best artists to begin with it. :no_mouth:)

Talk about being in love with one xD I'm still in love with this one I'm still use as load screen. Wish it had won that contest :< https://forum.treeofsavior.com/t/submit-rainbow-of-classes/319128

My only gripes have been:

-Not a wide representation of different art styles since the Halloween event and
-Obvious as ■■■■ traces of random anime art found on the internet

To elaborate on the former:
Styles have either been bishoujo and frilly with muted color schemes or chibi and cute with hyper-saturated colors.
This wouldn’t be an issue but it’s for loading screens, it all blends together after a while, rather than doing its job of breaking things up a bit.

Also, perhaps they’re just lazy and going by how many likes some of these threads have within each contest.

I don’t really care at this point. I just think they shouldn’t repeat winners for the next season to give others a chance. I agree with OP, some entries - I was really looking forward to win.

BUT Art is subjective anyways. It’s unfair and cruel to just say it out in the open like it’s some fact that the artist with better quality entries worked harder than those who didn’t.

OP, you should know better, being an artist yourself. Just cause OP’s favourites didn’t win, doesn’t give him the right to directly lambaste the majority of the winning entries. blame IMC.

All artists struggle and work hard to make better art and improve in general. I think ALL PARTICIPATING ARTISTS WORKED HARD FOR THEIR ENTRIES >_>

done with the butthurt and immature OP replies from this thread. good bye.
Congrats to everybody who participated.

Thinking on this, would it be a good idea for IMC to add reward to everyone who participated? (Nothing that big, maybe just a title for participation?)

Yeah. I was thinking of that too - a consolation price. or best mention, players’ favorites etc.

but honestly, if we all already know IMC’s biases … some people are just bound to lean that way and take advantage of it.

point is Art is biased just as much as IMC is so op can go cry in his room, spread cancer or something. (nothing against those who lost, just miffed that he thinks only his favorite artists worked hard)

First thought that crossed my mind was how i could take advantage :stuck_out_tongue: Does that make me a awful person?

not necessarily. I could have been too xD

but yeah bias is always there. everybody is going to to have to put in effort for it, regardless of their motives, if they want to win.

bah. im out of this thread. Tho I don’t disagree with his first sentiment. OP’s replies are too toxic and immature for me :joy:

It would be nice if they did a consolation prize, but most of the time they won’t do that because it can be taken advantage of. If they mention everyone will get something, you know a ton of people will just draw a stick figure lol.

I take back my statement earlier of not caring if people win multiple times after reading Chili’s reply. I think Chili has the right mindset and a good idea that each season there should be no repeat winners, just so it gives others a chance! I think that would also prevent old winners from taking time out to make art (especially since art isn’t everyone’s day job) with no chance of winning? IDK just a thought even though it’s kinda too late now xD

MThat one loading screen with pasted in items isn’t hard to make or take any effort, if I knew ■■■■ like that could win I could throw something together in an hour, it’s using in game sprites/models and an emote that isn’t even art?!

IMC is too cheap to give away TP for participation even after weeks of GvG cancellation…
How come so many awesome entries of blood, sweat and tears with no return?

IMC is even IMC’ing the fanartists.
