IMC's fanart event is bias af

hey if you have anything against me, that’s totally fine :joy:

Thats a matter of opinion, for example the 2 artists i listed earlier i feel are some of the best for quality. But as for on theme for the event they are pretty subtle. Where as if you look at some of the other winners or even chilis entries in other events they are well done, and very on point for the theme of the event.

How on theme it is could very well be a large determining factor for IMC.

I also wasn’t wanting to say this because it can translate into “biased” for some people. But the style of some art are quite marking, maybe one/some people judging them found that one of the styles fits more the game/their eyes more than others.

To be honest, myself, I prefer simpler/“fantasy” submits than the realistic (still REALLY good) ones, as loading screens, that is.

I was selected. I’m really happy with this.
I know there are great art out there, and way better than mine.

To every one who participated the event: Keep the good work, I’ll do my best again next time.
Thank you all.

Im with you on this. My personal opinion is that normal anime style and chibi are a great fit for the games graphic style.

But i could easily see people going a different route when you look at Maggies Npc artworks (insert art appreciation orgasm here).

yes and IMC’s opinion suck that much.

tell me how this one for example is not related to the theme.

thanks for this insight. Being an artist, I fail to realize that there’s always a criteria and a theme to follow, so I’m much of a fan of people who just throw out flashy well done, HQ art out there. Beauty is subjective tho. What’s better looking to me might not be better to others.

However this might be the case afterall. The contest encourages not only artworks in forms of visual illustration / painting, but also in comics, icebreakers, and other various forms they previously cite on their contest announcements.

Im not saying its not related to the theme. The couple in context of valentines day makes sense. But look at a lot of the winners. Lots of hearts, chocolates, valentines cards, and flowers. Im just saying maybe IMC wants in your face obviously valentines days.

We all know IMC isn’t good at picking up on subtle hints.

I personally think repeat winners proved their skill and deserved it too. The problem for me is how some winners expended way more effort and skill into theirs than a few picks and somehow didn’t make it.

And I can tell IMC, like a load of other people, have a huge bias for moe/extremely anime styles. I personally don’t think that’s fair at all. I suppose that’s a matter of opinion too.

Maybe I’m getting upset for no good reason. Other people I’ve spoken to about this have just shrugged and said it’s not an effort/skill based contest.

so this one lacks those things you mention huh?

Maybe IMC had a preference for a different submission to this one.

Im just saying the reason why some weren’t chosen could have been for how much it represented the holiday.

Im just suggesting possibilities why some weren’t chosen i can’t claim to know how IMC made their decisions. When your picking 13 and you have more than 13 good submissions, some quality fanart won’t get chosen, that is the nature of competitions.

Well it is, but the goal here is to appeal to what IMC wants. Sometimes a artists style and what someone wants don’t line up. Anyone who gets a lot of tattoos will know exactly what im talking about, we spend a lot of time looking for artists that match our tastes.

yea and some will win over and over even though they put less effort to their work. :smirk:

IMC does not give a damn about effort and the time spent on art.

I suppose so, then. I figured that IMC was picking for uniqueness, refinedness, and effort for the sake of the game’s population’s enjoyment, not what they personally just liked for themselves. I’ve done commissions/bribes/etc before, I accepted it easily if I wasn’t picked over others because that’s just what this one person wants. But a whole company in the face of a an entire game’s population just didn’t strike me the same way.

shrugs. I’m not going to continue drawing for IMC in any case, so this doesn’t really concern me anymore, but I just get really defensive of others with spectacular art.

I will admit that maybe I’m actually the biased one because I’ve copied moe styles for fun and seen it garner a much bigger reaction just for the sake of being moe, when it took me not even half as much effort or skill to do.

like this:

took me like 30 mins, while my other art takes an upwards of like 9 hours. I guess I’m just bitter about it heh.

I remember those times when people joke about IMC not having new loading screens when there is a scheduled maintanance. Now there are people complaining which ones are better or not. well i guess IMC fixed an old small issue there.

About who wins and to those who loses, is all about a matter of opinion. you think some are better? well maybe the judges dont think so. maybe the judges are not ART MAJORs like everyone else. maybe they are random guys that like wierd or different art styles than every one else. or maybe their criteria is different.

This is definitely like watching the emmy’s, grammy’s or even anime awards, that when the one you really believe that would win loses, it just means EVERYBODY ELSE’S TASTES SUX EXCEPT YOURS.

In the end i dont think this is biased at all.
A company that is biased to a point of risking whatever trust they still have on its players for 30$ worth of tp… come on man…
These guys are just regular people with regular jobs(staff/dev). not unless they get benefits from being biased right? or maybe laziness? i dont know.

oh well, if you guys still thinks that a company will be biased towards a bunch of random guys across the globe with 0 benefits, maybe its time to stand up from your computer chair, look in the mirror and tell yourself, “sh*t, illuminati confirmed”,

They shouldn’t. The people who put in more time and effort will most likely have a better chance to win, but all IMC should care about is how well it fits the criteria they put forward.

and they deserve it. trust me they do. the prize is not even worth that much time.

This feels like writing for contests, if you make a hell of a work but goes away from the theme you simply lose a huge amount of points that can make you not win even with a really well written text. Simply because criteria :x

I’m more worried about my loading screen be stuck forever again. Usually happens around when they switch them up. Grats to the winners though.

I believe, this is the thread i got PM about.

I know Chili and Chenna who have also participated before.

I also participated and agree there are some that definetly deserve to win from an “art” perspective.

But im also aware the drawings have to fit the desired “theme” around the game. And thats to the judges to choose.

I have no problem the same person winning, if nobody can beat him. But if he wins with pieces not even related to TOS, then it is a bit redicolous :stuck_out_tongue:
