I'm starting to feel like you guys hate us Hunters

Seriously now IMC, Is it just me or you guys are trying to forget about the huge mistake you made with this attempt to make companions more than what they actually are, “cute pets for mounting”?
I’m really tired of wating for you guys to put a few neurons on my stupid dog or at least some common sense when trying to order what exactly i want him to do… When are you going to fix all this? When are you going to stop making me feel more useless than any other class? And now don’t come saying that Hunters are supposed to be the supportive archer class, because i’m not talking here about lack of damage. I can do much more as a support with a potato chip, a napkin and a penny.
You guys know what you made, my fellow Hunters and i know what you made, but sometimes i believe that you guys are trying to avoid the fact that what you caused was giving an innocent dog a bunch of brain issues because it seems like doing two task at once is too much for its tiny brains.

Let’s talk about why i came here to the forums to complain for a class that only a few players care about and most of the time is avoided by the rest…

  • I thought i was a Hunter, but it turns out i’m actually just a simple dog whisperer.
    First of all, why? Why do i have to rely almost 100% of the time on my companion? You know, perhaps if we hunters could make something useful for our teammates by OURSELVES instead of just standing there waiting for the dam dog to stop having seazures we would feel less useless, like, hey, it’s not like we mind relogin every single time this happens, like if we were in the middle of something important like a dungeon/mission run, if that’s your idea of “fun”… (And no, i don’t think Hounding is the answer for this, even if it works for most of the cases.)
    Think about it for a second, i thought the concept for this class was having a partner to work along with, not a walking weapon.

  • And now that we talk about skills… what’s the point of these two? No, seriously.
    Let’s start with my favourite amongst all the other abilities, Pointing.
    Alright let me get this… why would i want to send my main damage tool three maps away from me (yes, that’s how it feels) just to lick the faces of the monsters around? Because that’s all what it does since is not worthy spending more than one point on this “amazing” ability. Losing my most valuable damage source for - 20 points in evasion an accuracy on enemies… Legit man, legit.
    And what can i say about the other one… well… yeah, detecting invisible enemies sounds pretty nice, right? If it would actually works… at least for me it never does.
    Now guys, couldn’t you just merge this two abilities with Growling that actually works sightly decent?
    But hey, now that i mention it, how could i forget about this masterpiece of a CC ability?

  • While every other class gets a few nice new abilites, what do we Hunters get? Barking.
    But hey, don’t get me wrong on this one, being able to affect a LOT of monsters with a 4 - 8 seconds fear every 3 seconds is amazing!.. if only i wouldn’t have to take the same stupid decision as with Pointing
    "So yeah, now my dog does some actual useful stuff… now how do i attack? AND WHY ARE MY TEAMMATES IGNORING IT?
    Oh yeah, maybe because nobody cares about this class, not even its final circle so they didn’t even know that this skill even existed… Well, who cares anyway, better not use this without being on a premade party huh… so yeah, how do i stop this thing?"
    Yes, this is the best part about this skill, you can’t. For 10 minutes. Yes, TEN MINUTES, unless you walk really far away from the doggy so it’ll feel helpless without its master’s presence then it will try to find the way back to you.
    … Seriously IMC, are you telling me that i should waste one rank just for this cr- bullsh-… this skill?
    C’mon guys, at least give the dog some kind intimidating look or wide aggression AoE effect… i don’t know, maybe make it yell some swearings to the monsters, so i wouldn’t have to risk my butt luring the stuff for my lovely teammates that are ignoring my efforts to be useful for them…

  • Is it me or my weird-looking green woofer is slowly becoming a little rodent?
    Is it because of the level gap? Maybe because its stats are way too low right now… Probably it’s just hungry… Hey, guess what, IT’S BECAUSE OF ALL THREE!
    Now that i have clarified how extremely important is having our green pal by our side, wouldn’t it be nice if the darn thing could stay alive for at least one minute?
    I spend more time feeding the dog to recover its health in the middle of boss fights that actually fighting them. And yeah, i haven’t forgot that you didn’t allow us to do that before the latest patch.
    Guys, making our companions the same as normal ones is not something very intelligent… you know, we’re Hunters, shouldn’t our companions be over the non pet-user classes?
    I mean, you gave us this attribute that makes the dog’s stamina run out more slowly… then why not more endurance? Higher stats? At least more HP and defense values… block and evasion would be quite nice aswell.
    You know, Cataphracts and S-… Sauce-… Schwarzer Reiters depend on their companions as much as we do, but they don’t even receive damage at all since they’re just being mounted… At least allow us to heal them whitout having to waste 5 seconds standing still on which we could be doing some insignificant damage just to see the animal being oneshotted right after that.

  • I just won the lottery, what should i do with all this money… OH YEAH! TRAINING THE PET!
    Not too much to say on this one, it seems like rainsing you companion’s stats is exclusively for the wealthy players. (Man i bet momohime has a beast between her hands…)
    Since we’re getting them for free, why not a sweet discount on this crab aswell?
    And just before i forget, don’t get fooled by Praise, i know those numbers look quite charming but spending points on this skill is as unworthy as doing it on Pointing, because is just a buff, and as happens with any other buff you lose it after you die and that also applies for the companion, which is an expert on this.

    If you guys have ever got a C3 Hunter in your party, you may have wondered: “Is that dude even hitting the boss?”
    Well, no, because our green friend here is busy trying to get rid of the annoying things that are surrounding the battlefield, with the only ability with which we can deal decent damage to bosses, which is also the most difficult to aim BECAUSE IT ONLY HITS THE CLOSEST THING IN FRONT OF YOU/THE COMPANION.
    I know we’re supposed to be a supportive class, but are you guys aware that the only thing we C3 Hunters can do is to spam an ability that not only takes a lot of SP but also a hell to make work between multiple enemies?
    If you can give us something as powerful as Snatching is for flying type bosses, why not something as good or half on the ground ones? Back to the first point, something you can do with your character instead of relying on a brainless green whatever.

And i could go on and on with this, but i’m not gonna mention the Coursing/Retrieve issues because those are too obvious points and i don’t like complaning that much, so let’s stop here with the cherry on top of the cake.
Remember when everyone were really excited about the latest patch and its mayor changes not only for content but also on classes’s skills?
Because i was, but while everyone was getting some nice buff or new features, what did we Hunters get?
Again, what do we Hunters got after all this time?..

I hope you guys fix this big mistake on the next patch, which is what you should be working on instead of making the game “the next club penguin”, seriously. Or at least, if it’s gonna take that long for you to realize how terrible this class is right now, allow my stupid dog to mega-evolve into, i dunno, a huge godzilla sized popolion.
Because if you’re allowing people to summon freaking bosses, why can’t i have my own kaiju monster?

coursing and retreive is super op in team battle league if there isnt a PD on ur team, if u get hit with it youre stuck there, and u cant use any skills and u take like 5k dmg every second, worst part is, is that theyre spammable

but those skills are Rank 10 Debuff, so PD can’t do anything on them

Well, i can’t deny what you say, i’m well aware of how broken Coursing and Retrieve are on a PvP scenario. But while you’re correct, it’s actually not that easy to make this skills to work. I’ve been playing TBL since yesterday, and even though i have 11 wins i’ve been carried throught all those because the following issues:

  1. My dog is as weak as a Kepa, so he dies as soon as he get touched by some kind of burst skills. And as every Hunter knows, a tired dog (without stamina) is an useless dog.
  2. With that said, whenever i try to heal my companion for the next round (yes, they don’t get fully restored as we do after the previous round), there’s a 50% chance that i get stuck for the rest of the round because of this new issue with the feeding animation in which you stand still unable to do anything for 5 seconds.
  3. Making Coursing/Retrieve to work is not as easy as it sounds, because as it happens on PvE the dog prioritizes the closest thing in front of me or him. And with that i mean:
  • Dievdirby’s Statues
  • Quarrell Shooter’s Pavises and Caltrops
  • Sorcerer’s various Summonings
  • And the most annoying one… OTHER PLAYER’S PETS. (Please, stop bringing your freaking pets with you if you’re not a Hunter/Falconeer)

And i’m not gonna mention the terrible companion’s AI, because again, that’s too obvious…

every time i go against a person with a pet the pet runs in front of my owl and just stands there

well you said about PD derp. don’t know if it’s unavoidable but everyone can do it (dodging?) not just PD.

Just jump over it or hit it once, it will bug and become useless.

Then again, just as i said, the companion prioritizes every single targetable unit in front of it, it doesn’t have to be a player.

And yes, just stay safe behind some statue or pavise, even your own pet will work, and you’ll be all “K”.

i tested hunter long time ago, i felt like i was helping my pet instead he helps me, it was all the time doing strange things, teleporting and doing things with strange physics, well it was like this gif:

serously, i love the concept about hunter but IMC is not helping with this, it looks like i will keep waiting for a fix.

You know… throughout the journey from Hunter1 to Hunter3… there are really many times I ask myself why am I doing this. The BEST thing this patch brought us is the penguin companion, which is literally the GODSEND for all hunters.

Yay hunter graduated from being one of the most silver demanding class to be one of the most TP demanding class.

Having access to the penguin really helps soften the heart-wrecking frustrations plaguing this class. I shall not complain much though, as it doesn’t really help IMC see what it wrong with the class. Seeing is believing, have a look at this clip first:

Suggestions to improve the class

So what is stopping players from rolling hunters or even care about whether this class exist or not? The answer is relatively simple, the pet mechanics is simply too basic (not non-existent though) in ToS. Just simple pet commands like the following:

  • Attack target
  • Stay
  • Follow (run back to me)

are not implemented. This makes it extremely hard to to utilize the hunter’s skills, which is primarily fyi, made up of 100% pet skills while offering 0 skills to the hunter himself/herself. The hunter has to consider the mood of the companion, who sometimes need to have some personal time to stay at one spot doing its own business.

Pets also have difficulty traversing terrains, sometimes when the AI couldn’t calculate out the best path to travel to a monster, the pet will just stay there and refuse to budge.

Hence having an ‘uncooperative’ pet 70% of the time makes the hunter an unhappy archer. If you see a hunter c3, do give him a pat on the back. We really need it, 70% of the time the skills don’t work at all, we have to resort to some really special measures to get them to work.

It just feels like the 3 circles in the build is non-existent.

Besides pet AI, the skills themselves are buggy. Coursing is arguably one of the best hunter skills as it gives debuffs and buffs to hunter, but it is also one of the most bug ridden skills. If the you issue another command while coursing is still in effect, congratulations your pet is bugged out and will not follow any more commands until you “reset” it with the “search” skill. It also fails to latch until the bosses most if not all of the time. Hence hunters literally only have Rush Dog or Snatching (if is flying type) to use on the boss.

Growling is… useless. There is no way to turn the pet stance off, the pet will stay there for a full 10 mins unless the player changes channel or relogs. Yay it is a C3 skill.

So IMC do help the hunter community, at the very least implement the basic pet movement functions like attack/follow/stay. It will help improve the play-ability and outlook of the class at least by a 100-fold.

Damage changes can come later, just FYI the rush dog damage in the video is level 17 rush dog (15 + 2 from savage bow) with 20% attribute.

I already leave my hunter for 2 months and made another characters… and I’m about to delete my hunter soon when I start my journey to my alchemist. :unamused:

it’s really frustrating on why they ignore hunter class like it doesn’t exist. . . it’s bullshit. I can probably save my hunter if there is class reset and I’ll go SR instead. but I do not want class reset to be implemented either way so I’m ready to delete it.

The best buffs that a hunter could possibly receive (aside from fixing the countless bugs and pet AI) would be this:

Pointing becomes a 1 point skill that passively reveals hidden enemies to the player in an area around the pet

And

Hunters are given a Swashbuckling skill (perhaps half the radius or whatever) that pulls all enemy agro to the pet instead. Thanks @Nekorin for pointing out pet’s die rather quickly already lol How about an attribute that increases pet def+hp while they are under the influence of this skill?

Seriously I’m not sure what IMC was thinking with hunter but… I mean, I get their idea, a hunter’s pet in TOS is like Ori’s ball; the pet’s actions are the results of the skills you cast, like an extension. But they neglected what a hunter is… someone who has a faithful companion who hunts lol There are hundreds of stories in legend and real-life of a hunter’s companion not only enjoying the hunt with their master but sometimes even intentionally taking on stronger opponents (like bears) to protect their master and even dying in the process.

Why the hunter in TOS doesn’t have a swash type skill is beyond me.

Oh no please don’t. I have enough of my pet being 1HKO by fighting a monster the same level as the pet just cuz the monster breathes fire (I’m looking at you small cockatrice).

It’s true though currently pets can die pretty quickly, even with millions sunk into stats. Updated last post to include a possible attribute lol
