ToS is far closer to games like modern Ys and mana series than is to RO and i like that but in those games some bosses where EPIC and lets be honest ToS bosses are just uninteresting superdeformed HP giants…
I agree with the ppl saying classes are great in ToS in my opinion is the strongest point of ToS i also like the gameplay with a joydpad but still needs improvement.
If someone dont belive this game is more similar to Ys or Mana just watch some videos for proof, i believe all that about being the true RO continuation is a mix of nostalgia on players side and marketing on the developers side.
TOS is not RO but when you make something you need an inspiration or basis of what you wanted to make. The fact that developer copied the graphics of RO is more than enough to compare it. But you know why people are whining? not because TOS is not RO2 its because the game is like other generic mmorpg. The story is boring the hand holding is too much. Everyone follow the same path theres no uniqueness except the class system. It makes me feel like im playing a chinese mmorpg where you just accept the quest then click the autopath to proceed to another quest then repeat the same thing again. To be honest I like questing but this is too much and repititive.
It’s still closed beta thats why you’ll see a lot of these. If this criticism hurts your fanboy ego then suck it up until the game is released.
btw IMC said this on their Steam Greenlight
Players do not need to follow the fixed routes
Ironic isnt?
So since they share similar graphics thats more then enough to compare the two games? Like wtf. Thats like saying if a fire truck is red and some guy is wearing a red shirt they have a lot in common lol. Id compare this game to Diablo 2 or Secret of Solstice.
Thats pretty irrelevant. ToS and Ragna have the same Genre they are both MMORPG its natural for people to compare a new game to a successful one. I hope your stupidity can be cure.
And here come the attacks lol. Relax, sorry if I hurt your feelings with my keyboard, but comparing two games because they share similar graphics is stupid.
And you just downgraded this game by comparing it to a single player rpg.
Compared it to two games not just Diablo 2.
This thread is like the titanic atm, what have you done OP
Jesus.
Well, in fact you don’t need.
You just do it because EXP cards are too effective in what they do, and I don’t know if it’s because of this, or lazyness or irony, but everyone does quests. I mean, I’m pretty sure I could hit for full damage monsters from Forest of Prayer when I was lv110, sure they were hitting HARD, but hey, it’s the challenge that is fun, right?
What if i told that there are people calling Secret of Solstice a copy of ragnarok?
How do we suppose to compare a game then? Arent we usually start comparing things when we see some similarities?
You said it yourself the xp cards are too good on what they do its like the developer saying do the quest or your progress will be 5 times slower. Should i be happy if i manage to kill a mob thats lvl is 20+ higher than me? Well I should be but on this game hell NO. The system punish you by giving you a lower xp for killing a high lvl mob. Where’s the fun in that?
It doesn’t…
There’s only penality if you kill monsters 5 levels or more BELOW your level, I think you just don’t gain bonus exp if you kill higher level monsters (and I’m not even sure what kind of bonus is that)
Im lvl 150 and i already killed a mob that lvl is 20+ higher than me. And theres no reward for killing a strong mob. It gives the same xp like other weaker monsters do. Who the hell in their right mind to kill a strong mob for free?
Ill have to agree with you there. Some people do say SoS is similar to RO. Also like to apologize if I offended you. I dont like attacking people on a forum. Only reason I compared it to SoS was because of the questing they shared.
Getting less experience for killing mobs too above or below you isn’t new… …
I heard about ToS ONLY because it’s made by the creators of RO. Otherwise I wouldn’t know this game, and it would be one of many other korean MMORPGs. I think it’s only natural that people compare it to RO. And catastrophes like “renewal” are more reasons why I’m here trying a different game :3
The thing is: I’ve tried many korean MMOs and every single one of them had: 1 starting town // linear quest mode // same path, no matter which class you choose…
So what I want is not “ToS to be more like RO” … I just want:
“a new game that is fun to play and different from all the other korean MMOs”
Yes, linear mode is better for casual players, …quicker, easier, more seductive.
But how can you say it won’t sell if no one even tries?
Hey, it was you who said “lower xp for killing a high lvl mob”, I just said that that wasn’t true.
If you gain “normal xp”, then it’s not “lower”
How you progress is all up to you
Fun is entirely subjective. It’s not really an argument that can be used if you’re going to be comparing two different subjects in a medium since it’s all a matter of personal taste.
If you want to talk about features, go ahead. Just keep in mind that the Korean version receives constant updates, whereas we don’t so much. So we don’t have firsthand experience of how much the game has improved (or worsened) since our version was available.
Yes, fun is entirely subjective, but an important input from players. That’s why you must try and make the game fun to most people. IMC should really make a poll later to check if the player felt that it’s fun or not. Careful implementation is needed since the players who think that the game is not fun may had left the game/forum already, thus will not join the poll, creating a skew in the vote.
However, player’s suggestion on game feature (mechanic, especially) shouldn’t really be taken too seriously. CBT Players usually don’t know what will make the game fun. They can only act as a sensor to output whether the current features are enough or lacking.
Even so, the specialty shown in Korean version still doesn’t change much. It’s still really lacking (enough as a released game, not enough as a game which will attract many players).
