Tree of Savior Forum

IDK bout you peeps, but fellas, I think P2P is the best way for this game to endure and survive in MMO harsh market

I’m going to have to agree here.

I don’t see ToS successfully starting off P2P. Although it has a longstanding fan base from RO, and will be available on Steam for an even larger playerbase. It doesn’t seem to have the fan base that WoW or the FF series (11/14) has. I may be wrong, but it’ll need something equivalent to even attempt being a successful P2P.

Also IMC is very used to the F2P model, there’s no reason to change.

I’ll agree with @Erokhi as well here for everyone continuing this thread:

If it becomes a Buy to play game, the existence of the cash shop is still a real possibility to help the developer support the game long term. It also houses the possibility of buying new DLC, like a retail game would, or for an MMO example - World of War Craft. In the long term, selling the game at retail will be just like purchasing a F2P game or a DLC heavy retail game (Destiny) depending on what business model IMCGames want to go with…

P2P is a good idea if the game has a playerbase that fits in this type of market. idk if its the case of ToS.

However, P2P is the best way imo.

Gotta say I’m a Free player because I still studying, I have to study one more year before I can get my job. I’m glad that IMCgames decided F2P for ToS.

Been waited for ToS since they release the first trailer in 2013, when I saw that trailer I found out that this game will be the last MMORPG that I take serious and stick with it in a long time.

-I start making a thread about ToS in our famous game forum. Gather all info from Devblog, fansite, reddit, facebook…and translates them all for other gamers in my country. Most fansites and game website gather ToS info from my little thread. I’m the only one in my country who actually care about ToS and willing to spend time to translates every single post from those websites.
-I fought for ToS when Ragnarok fanboys try to extinguish the hype that I built for it.
-When CBT 1&2 finish, many gamers think the gameplay isn’t really good (because of quest driver), they got mad and told me that ToS is nothing compare to RO, I tried to explain and calmed them all. Many people called me blind fanboy just because I protects ToS from misinformation and harasses.

But now when CBT 3 is near, a lot of those gamers are saving their money for ToS.

To all players that want this game to be B2P/F2P, just because we can’t pay for the game, doesn’t mean we all are “not smart” and can’t support it, I surely will pay for this game whenever I can, but not yet.

BTW I was a fan of Ragnarok and Granado espada as well. There is no MMORPG that can please me like IMCgames’ did.

It’s really sad how some users here treat players that can’t afford monthly sub.
I’m not rich, but I’ll be happy to support ToS if they have an optional Subscription + item shop.
They can also have initial B2P Early Access in Steam, which would be also great to kickstart the game.

The thing is, you need to support the things you enjoy or they disappear. : )

And if you’re truly rich, you wouldn’t mind that someone out there will enjoy the game for free thanks to your support.
Otherwise you’re just a “very rich” internet person.
Saying that players are “bad” and “stingy” if they can’t afford a subscription only shows haw “bad” and “stingy” you are, and I would pay double if that gets rid of people like you : )
Especially in this nice game.

My opinion is that ToS should be F2P with a Sub option and Item shop with cosmetics

Half people want p2p and the other half want f2p. Whatever ToS going with, there still be people unhappy. Do you know what’s the most deadly on Steam? Review. A game that get Mixed or Negative will be ignored so fast. I just hope ToS won’t fall into that.
Personally, if ToS is P2P, I won’t play it. I’ll pay for the game because I want to, not because I have to. Beside, from the start, ToS was built with F2P in its concept. Is it really need to change?

It’s going F2P. This thread seems to be more of a concept thread, what if we had the choice. Opinions are split however an overwhelming majority of people respect that both options are viable. So if this is anything to go by for the community at large, your worries about Steam reviews aren’t a problem.

I recommend you guys to check out this poll

World of Tanks, the #4 top grossing MMO, says otherwise  P2P is a thing of the past and likely will not be coming back. The revenue gained from F2P is just so much greater.

Mmm, so heated. As you said, 20% (which if I read correctly on the website, it said 40%) of the world don’t even make $2 a day, while true, doesn’t make sense with what azebu put forth, as I’m going to take a wild guess and say those 20% don’t even own a computer or have internet. With the people who can’t find a job, if they are unemployed and struggling with debts, I’m sure have more important things to deal with than playing video games.

I’m not even sure what to say in response to what you said about inflation, because whatever you trying to say doesn’t make sense, azebu is simply suggesting saving an amount of monet to be able purchase a game that would probably end up being $15-35, that amount of money would hardly be affected (if at all) in the amount of time it takes for the game to come out.

In my Head ill go like, i need to play this!! I PAID FOR THIS!! and i wont play it?

This is exactly how I felt when I used to play FFXIV! lol. I had to force myself to end my subscription, because whenever I had free time I felt that I should be using that time to play… plus I was wildly addicted to crafting.

P2P means everyone spending $10-15 a month, with a possible mini cash shop that doesn’t really have anything worthwhile or tradeable in it usually.

F2P means that caps removed. Anyone can spend $100 or even $10000 a month, and people do. So long as items from the cash shop, even cosmetic items, are tradeable, those individuals that put money into the game can resell for huge profits.

B2P means a one time payment wall, and a cash shop, which usually contains event things, but nothing too big. Less profits for a game, and requires paying again for multiple expansions for a developer to make money. A developer will have to have already started the expansion when each one is out to continue raking in profits, and it may be out of their normal schedule for things.

I see 2 real routes. P2P, or F2P with cosmetic cash shop and no tradeable items. Now with no tradeable items, the game will make severely less money for the devs, unless you take one major aspect of the game (inventory space), and monetize on it so that most people will need to buy it. The rest can be cosmetic. Similar to Path of Exile.

I agree that F2P will remain the primary model for the future of MMO, there’s too much competition for most same generic style mmos to even contemplate going P2P.

I dont consider World of tanks to be an MMO, neither is LoL/Dota. They’re all just multiplayer games. I dont know why some sites list those sorts of games on an MMO, you dont play in a single server/match with 100+ people on. You play with same number or less than what battlefield series provides.

If you classify something as LoL as an MMO then most successful multiplayer games are also MMOs… starcraft the MMO, counter strike the MMO etc. at which point the term MMO loses most of its meaning.

On a side note, I dont know of many top grossing MMOs that are F2P that aren’t also P2W.

Dota and LoL aren’t MMO, they’re basically MOBA.
If IMCGames decided for F2P, they just need to be smart on how to monetize the cash shops and what items are going to be put in there (I already give many suggestions for those items in earlier posts, too lazy to write them again).

Path of exile is a F2P game that have amazing cash shop, ~95% items from cash shop are microtransactions, they sell stash extension as well but almost nobody complaint about it. Beside the cash shop they sell support pack that give unique microtransactions, soundtracks T-shirt, beta keys for beta server,… and even create in-game item if you buy the most expensive support pack (Ofc you have to discuss with dev).

Path of Exile and Tree of Savior are self publish by their own developers, unlike most MMORPGs out there that always have a publisher behind to milk them.

Yeah I love PoE, it’s a great game.

I’m not saying you can’t have a F2P game with a reasonable cash shop, there are a number of those. It’s just rare to have a F2P game that makes a ton of money and doesn’t have a pay to win cash shop.

i just dont want ToS to be a dead game and full of scammers

We can report the scammers to GM. Hopefully there’ll be active, understanding, and patient GM for this game. I don’t think this will be a dead game as long as the developer is responsible and we keep supporting the game.
