You mean like a blade edge? Kind of like a slashing chop motion?

I use Hand Knife all the time,people just need to understand Monks and how use your skills in the right rotation order for maximum damage.

A chopping motion is not a slashing motion. Chopping is done vertically, using a blade, but since you strike with your bones, it’s supposed to be a strike type of damage. Slashing would be if the Monk grows claws like the Druid during Lykanthropy and slices through the enemies, but that wouldn’t happen just because the skill is named “Hand Knife”.

They could introduce something like the “Kien Zan” for Monks to bring slash damage to the table, but new skills won’t likely come for old Classes/Ranks anyway unless they want a cheap way to get more money by urging them to buy skill resets…

It’s also strange how you’re not fine with DP but fine with the high CD times of Monk skills. Paladins Smite with 3 overheat charges has only 9 seconds CD time, so this should be the base to calculate a decent CD time (16 seconds and below) for Monk skills to not make them so much inferior to spamming Double Punch…

I use knife hand too. But its damage scaling does not beat One Inch Punch, nor Double Punch. The animation time of one knife hand is about as much as 2 double punches. Max DPS (esp in a 5 second window for a strike buff) is what I am refering to, especially since double punch has infinite AoE Atk ratio, and knife hand only has AoE Atk 5.

I think that the only changes needed to Monk are:

  1. Change to Iron Skin (the change to Golden Bell shield from recent kToS patch is good to)
  2. Add ability for Double Punch debuff stack with God Finger Flick (and may be make it last a little longer like 9s kind of like rodel strike debuffs are)
  3. Make Energy Blast do somewhat relevant damage (kind of what Cyclone 10 is) (can be accomplished by making it Strike type damage and have debuffs help with that. and also changing it to Chaneling skill rather then a charging type skill.

This will help, but outside of that I do not feel that monk3 is too bad. It can be better, but double punch as it is, is a strong skill. with MM and Hand Knife/GFF it can do very respectful damage.

You aren’t wrong, but the game is wonky and its fantasy. We have carving knives that do piercing damage, arrows that dont count as piercing, and somehow Cata’s Impale that is Strike damage? (How does someone impale something without piercing it?) I just think if we can shoot beams from our hands, we can make a knife hand be slashing damage using fancy goddess magic or something.

Its because I dont see Monk as a singular DPS class. I see monk as Cleric + whatever else people got before it. If I wanted Monk to be DPS only with low cooldowns, I’d want for it to be a Rank 2 or 3 class. I believe your character is the sum of all its ranks in this game, not just whatever someones favorite circle 3 happens to be.

Also, why is everyone so set on strike damage? This is a legit question.

Everyone sees God Finger Flick cooldown (a 5 second debuff window for finger flick on a single monster), and they want to stuff the entire bit of their damage on that one specific thing. But then be ok with the other 20 seconds its on cooldown, and all the other mobs that didnt get the debuff, and all the other mobs that are naturally weak to piercing and slash? Is it the 10% proc chance debuff from double punch? They want to bet all of their damage on a 10% chance to proc before they can do respectable damage?

Am I missing something?

i want energy blast to add 40+ hits, right now at 21 is too low damage

Give monk root attribruite or Restrain skill from swordman

I agree that monk needs a restrain type skill like swordsman.

maybe they should add an attribute for that at monk3 so that other clerics cannot abuse it by just taking 1 circle of monk to complete their god mode (anti-cc, healing, immunity, bla bla)

It can be slash, for what its worth. but since debuffs that we got are for strike damage, I would like to leave it consistent to that.

Kind of like Doppel is mostly slash damage, Monk should be Strike, and Dragoon is pierce

A nice damage type triangle. So one can excel at one type of bosses or target type. So there is use for us all…

Also Pears and GodSmash are strike type damage, so there is that…

My Hand Knife is at lv 1 lol,I use it only for the armor break.

All Skill damage to Leather, Cloth, Ghost will be equal to Plate Armor

Iron Skin: Reflect Any Damage - Able to move - Aggro all monsters

Double Punch: Consumes 1 Stamina(remove 50% chance attribute) - Faster Animation Speed - Can stack debuff with God-Finger Flick

Palm Strike: Higher Chance to crit - Reduce cool down from 15 —> 5 - Damage Increased

Hand Knife: Higher Chance to crit - Reduce cool down from 15 —> 10 - Damage Increased

Energy Blast: Damage Increase Enormously - Reduce cool down from 60 —> 45 - Direction of Energy Blast can be switch using a keyboard

One Inch Punch: Reduce cool down from 20 —> 15 - Increase Damage - New attribute: Stun (for 2 second) - Higher Chance of crit

God Finger Flick: Increase Damage from 880 —> 1000-1500 - Debuff can be stacked with Double Punch

Golden Bell Shield: Each level is 2 second - turned into a buff - Casting Time Reduced - Able to move while using this skill (can still protect party members) - Aggro All monsters

Give hand knife and palm strike overcharges. maybe 2 or 3.

Hand Knife applies a debuff that will break target’s armor reducing it to 0 for skill level * 1.5 seconds

c2 or c3 attribute to make Double punch a passive, and does not drain stamina anymore. Activated by regular melee attack swings.
c2 attribute to make Hand Knife break statues/traps
c3 attribute to make Hand Knife damage ignore armor. (true damage)
c3 attribute to enable turning when using Energy Blast. (Guide aiming similar to when casting caltrops)

Unless you’re Shiki from either Kara no Kyoukai or Tsukihime, Hand Knife breaking things is unrealistic. Instead, they should give this attribute to One Inch Punch or God Finger Flick.

Energy Blast could set things/monsters on fire and recieve burn damage until they die (unlimited burn debuff) to make the skill good. The CD time should stay around 60 seconds,though, because the Monk should focus more on the other skills instead of spamming his Kamehameha all the time (it’s already down to 48 seconds with 1 Rank invested into Diev pre Rank 5).



About Carve Attack: Ever seen a carving knife? I have some at home and they look more like an ice pick than a knife, so it’s natural that Carve Attack would be pierce damage. Thrusting with a dagger also delivers piercing damage ingame, so it’s kinda consistent up to that point.

Impale is strike type because you impale an enemy onto your weapon to change it from a spear into a hammer; you use the impaled enemy to inflict blunt damage when you attack with it, so it’s only natural that impale is overall listed as strike damage…

Monk is bad but not so bad that it needs such unrealistic improvements.
If you ever played Sadhu or Kabbalist you’d be able to relate to not being able to deal damage. The most damage that my Sadhu Kabbalist deals stems from Clerics Heal and Cure, if that’s not sad then what is in the Monk tree?

Don’t tell me that your Heal & Cure can outdamage spamming Double Punch or Energy Blast, you’d make me cry xD

This already “sort of” happened with the Sr [limacon] skill where it changed from an active 0cd damage skill to a buff that changes the offhand attack. I hope they remake all 0cd skills this way.

I hate seeing my monk carrying a mace and doing punches :S

Since that would mean working on a completely new asset, I would rather they just work with the staff and come up with some monk-ish passives to “tie it all in”. Y’know, stuff like:

  • matk to atk like with what [lycanthropy] does
  • melee magic that is all “chi and ■■■■”

Iron Skin becomes Iron Fists. Makes your Monk skills deal 200-350% depending on skill level if you have no weapon/shield/subweapon equipped.

Palm Strike moves you very quickly to the nearest enemy you’re facing. 2 overheat.

Double Punch builds a combo counter like Corsair’s Jolly Roger. Using another Monk skill consumes your combo count to deal extra damage to that target. Like +20% damage per DP or something like that.

Hand Knife ignores defense and deals bonus damage equal to the target’s defense.

Hand Knife and Palm Strike deal splash damage to enemies upon landing (no AAR limit) if you keep the knockdown on.

CD of energy blast reduced to 45, deals skill level x 5 hits.

God Finger Flick becomes Vital Point Press. Same damage and strike-weakness debuff, but no longer ranged nor consumes silver. Ranged skill now provided by Palm Strike. Additional effect to permanently knockdown the target affected, or for 5 seconds in pvp.

Golden Bell Shield also reflects physical damage back at the caster, but not deployment or magic circles.
