Ichor - aka the next level of ridiculous RNG

As we all knew, this patch introduced Ichor - an item for you to transfer lv350 equip stats. It requires sierra dust and some mats you can buy from blacksmith NPC in fedimian. The sierra dusts amount for each attempt is quite high: 58 for purple, 116 for orange items. Each fail reduces one potential, and the item will be destroyed if it failed at 0 pot.

In theory, it sounds nice and once it was first introduced people start to save gears with good stats. But guess what, the success rate is insanely low, like 5% or lower (that’s what i think after 50 ichor extract attempts i got like 2 success). I get the idea of being an end-game content it should be this hard, but come on, it consumes 1 potential each try, and tons of sierra dust. Basically with a full potential primus armor you get like 11 chances multiply with 116 dusts. Imagine you spent hundred millions (look at dusts price now), try to reroll a decent stats, then end up failing 10 ichor extract in a row, leaving you nothing but an useless 0 pot item.

If you dont believe and think i’m salty and overreacting, try it yourself. You will see what i mean and this new system is even more frustrating and cancer than everyone think it should be.

Tried it on my masinios mace and I got an ichor after 5 tries.

I wish all servers could supply enough masinios mace 1 hand / staff / 2h swords / crossbow / pistol so we can leisurely ichor to our heart content…
To me what is suspicious is the korean player with this

i got my masinios staff ichor at 3rd tries too, then guess what i failed 50 times with my boots, gloves, pants,… You can be lucky with your masi mace doesnt mean this system is okay. Wait until u try on other items

several times i see this pic reposted, and not even once the reposter checked the response from greyhiem who told that it actually might be just edited with addon and posted as a link in the chat but not the real one

just my 5 cents

When I made the same remark in another post, I feared that the Ichor extraction rate would be really low. Now I know :frowning:

i just failed 10 times in a row trying to ichor a primus top, its on 1 pot now and i’ll just sell it on market for budget price i guess…

Sierra Powder per primus item is insane cost for the % chance of success…

Well I guess the increase in PATK/MATK of the legendary stuff is good enough to consider using one even without stats attached… Maybe in a future patch they’ll increase the extraction rate if enough people complain about it.

I thought that link was “serious” because no one was reacting there https://wizardguidetreeofsavior.blogspot.fr/2018/03/velcoffer-raid-guide.html

Are there any videos where people fail multiple masinios pistol recipes in a row by sheer unluck (masinios dagger / rapier don’t count as valuable) ?

The armor success rate may just be below 5%.

I have seen from others now two full potential chest pieces get destroyed from full to 0, and I just took an Ausura from full to 0 without success.

Has anyone had success with the chest piece?

The partis solution is also layered with RNG. To get a set stat that you want on velcoffee, GL spending 3m a piece to RNG your set stat.

Dont worry , in a future leticia box update they will introduce diamond ichors, which let you try to extract without losing potential. You all should be used to this as they already did similar things with enhancement, socketing and are just doing it with rng stats too

At least our Solmiki sets stay viable because of this.
I don’t think this Velcoffer set is actually supposed to be completed in mere weeks even by hardcore players.

The sad thing is that you don’t get any set bonus on 2 parts, so you need to enchant at least 3 parts with said ichors to have any effect.

IMO they should put the different Velcoffer set effects on 2 parts, 3 parts and the skill on 4 parts, so weapon+shield/sub-weapon can have two different 3 part sets[e.g. patk + 573 and matk +573].

the worst part about this update is that you have another RNG layer for subweapon/shield in contrast to twohanded weaponry, and I honestly doubt they accounted for that in the success rate [i.e. making two-handed weapon ichor rate = one-handed weapon rate * shield rate],
so there’s one more big “f you” from IMC on top of the increased farming time and the worse random stat rates for non-two-handed weapon wielders.

There are 5 sets though, that’s a better set of odds than something with a 5% success rate–3m can get pricey if you get unlucky but not 2400-3600 sierra powder and 2-3 fodder items of pricey.

It will take a few weeks to get the pieces, just like Solmiki. The issue here is simply the amount of silver that is required to be sunk into transferring stats. It’s a great idea, it should take time and silver, but the success rate is abysmal when you consider that you lose it if it fails. I would even be okay with the powder alone being the silver sink, losing a few entire pieces of gear from full potential to zero is rough.

If they do, I imagine it will be when the gear just isn’t that useful anymore.

They stated in the dev blog that they planned velcoffer gear to have better stats than next tier gears( maybe 390) so i doubt they will wait so much time. Also, we can expect the ichor mechanic to be present in next legend equips. They already stated that they prefer gear with layers of RNG so i dont think they will come back to older fixed stats style

That was obvious from the beginning, as it is legendary tier gear.
The 330 Solmiki gear is still better than 350 primus gear in case of defence, so it’s not just a surprise but rather the continuation of gear progression (e.g. you can get primus equipment fast, but it will be outperformed next cap by new gear, or Velcoffer slowly, but it will outperform next caps gear)
with the tweak that you can actually progress from primus gear to Velcoffer gear with the help of ichors.

This is a great help for casual players and a huge slap in the face for people who farmed and upped Solmiki gear, since they cannot get their Solmiki stats onto Velcoffer set items.

Layers of RNG are a cancer in my opinion.
In RO, there were only drop RNGs (mainly weapon/armor and cards) as well as the upgrade RNG,
with only some later-introduced equipment (Mora, Malangdo,Bio Lab 4 e.g.) having an additional random stat enchantment for hardcore players.

In ToS, even the drop RNG is a layered one, which makes it hard to farm for something specific (which would be ok if we had more abilities for personal trades) as equipment drops are completely randomized with no way to influence which item gets dropped [really bad for people who need a weapon + shield/sub-weapon].
This RNG gets further ridiculed by the random stat RNG, which makes most items trash tier, even if they are supposedly “primus” [primus = “first” in Latin] grade, as there is no difference whatsoever in the number and nature of possible stats between magic, rare and unique gears [only the amounts per stat differ] .

If Primus had e.g. 1 guaranteed green stat and 1 other guaranteed random stat, Berthas had 1 guaranteed green stat and Irellis just 1 guaranteed random stat e.g., the RNG layer wouldn’t be so bad.

Because, let’s face it,
non-red/non-green stats are mainly trash in comparison to reds&greens,
especially purple ones[i.e. substats] that can also be gained via raising green stats
[so green stats have several times the values of purples],
and the number of stats [max 4 per equipment, no matter which rarity, except for two-handed weaponry]
is too low to justify having non-greens/non-reds on them [especially considering the huge amount of useless stats in the blue and purple category like e.g. Stamina, Block Penetration, Accuracy, Property Defence, Attack Type Defence]
since chances are high you end up with useless ones even if your other stats are good/useful.

The worst fact is that you can already get a lot of these sub-stats via item awakening, too[another RNG-layer that uses up potential unless you have a ton of premium awakening stones].

And with a pool of only 5 green stats and a non-duplicate rule for appraising, the chances are really high that 4 green stats have at least 3 stats that are useful for you [CON,DEX and SPR are useful for any Class in the game, so the only random factors here are the two opposing attack stats STR and INT].
I can’t say the same for blue or purple ones tbh.

It might’ve been better to introduce more tiers [e.g. yellow for property - and attack type defence, pink for HP,SP and their respective recoveries + Stamina, and orange for attack vs certain enemy sizes/races] so you can have at least more certainty to have the stats you want with blue and purple tiers.

But it seems to me that purple and blue were simply designed as trash tiers, ruining your gear so people have to play more.

And all these RNGs happen before the upgrade RNG/Ichor RNG…

i think if the ichor rate is so low like that, it shouldn’t be pot-consumed. So we can keep trying (in pain) until we success without breaking the fodder. Or if it has to be pot-consumed the success rate should be higher, like 15-20% so may be with the blessing of goddess we can make it within 10 tries.

yes,it should be 100% success,or at least 50%,otherwise a normal player will never have that money to craft 1 set of volcoffer

i think around 20-25% is the most reasonable rate, not too hard, not too easy

I think their reasoning was to make velcoffer a huge silver sink for “whales”, but the matter is that they will have no issue crafting and enchanting velcoffer items and this might create a huge gap between them and non-whales. I’m having problems in finding enough money for solmiki, for crying out loud…!
