I just came to a sad realization about this game

Well, you still can do those quests later and job quest change was a thing in RO too.

Well, I try to correct some perceptions that you have.
I believe ToS is more open than RO.
Just that ToS provided too many freedoms that you doesn’t know where to pick, nor there is a simple complete guide for you to follow. That’s it, a lot of things you need to explore yourselves with enough of playtime. The more you play, the more you will feel ToS is a bit out of the mainstream MMO that unusual to you.
But, as a first character with no resources, I think indeed questing is the rigid way to leveling.

The quest:
Well, RO is freedom of grinding, you get to choose the monster type/element that favor you.
But ToS is freedom of leveling, you get to choose the method by questing/grinding/dungeon/carding/speed to leveling. But I guess as your first character, pretty much questing is easiest way.

The Exp:
All MMO games do waste map, include RO, as well as GuildWars 2, but certain maps you have back to revisit for farming mats.
And that’s the design of modern MMORPG intend to centralize contents, to optimize the usage of the server resources.

Mob difficulty: Hmm, i think you haven’t really fight in Hunting Ground/ET/Dungeon. I agree the difficulty in general maps and low level dungeons are breeze. I think 5 ppl party is optimize due to the game too many buffs and build orientations, but I think yes we may need a bigger party content or a multi-party like in RO2, on top of it we/templar can easily swap members, eg: guild raid.

My thought, many new players speed rush ToS to level 330 recently with event and compensation items, until they missed a lot of information and content.
My advise, try to be more social, join a guild, and their discord to start discover other things. This is not Kirito game

I think the best similarity of ToS and RO is the social prospect, what is your last time that peoples actually sit and chat? or try to party up to do some high level contents? you can’t even find that in RO now that plagued by bot and kirito with MVP cards. ToS is providing many skills/gestures social interaction that exceeding RO’s emoticons imo.

You nailed the problem in the last part. The social aspect.

What the OP is talking about is about the need to grind and party to lvl so you were (depending on class, gear, lvl and money) forced to socialize.

Here in ToS, I have a guild just to not be alone. Parties in low/mid instances are pretty opposite to what socializing is because it’s just queue and kill mobs.

Yes I know things get better at higher levels but lets be honest here: The main selling point of ToS is that’s a spiritual succesor of RO althought it’s a different game.

If people come here to experience something ā€œsimilarā€ to RO (just like the average themepark player want to feel sonething similar to their previous themepark but different) but the first thing the experience is something pretty similar to WoW instead of RO (assuming they know nothing about high levels, just what they see at lvl 1-100 range).

There is a reddit post explaining it better than me about ā€œwhy there is no RO like mmo around?ā€ and while everyone said they fail at job system or grinding, that guy nailed it with the social design.

Yup, many MMORPG make their game is quest quest and quest that make the game so boring…

Hahaha…

Yes, I was in the internet social blooming generation of ICQ/IRC/Messenger that bloom together with RO.
I value and appreciate the feeling of tagging along with like-minded strangers in game, and the feeling of trusting each other, ended up become best friends in far distance. That’s the best thing of RO nostalgia me, the social aspect but not the game design. (i took many years to realize this as well, many games design that better than ROx10000 why doesn’t they impress me at all)

Many peoples searching RO-liked game, but at the end they do not realize the social aspect is what deep in their heart as they are growing up and getting isolated in internet and real life. Many peoples are finding excuses that they can’t find back the feeling of RO.

Come on, find back your heart of RO.

This is your real sad realization.

Ro had one thing going other than the irc aspect at least. WoE. No other game has ever come close in group pvp for me

Thank you for writing this.

I think many players nowaday are too obsessed with
"max level asap"
ā€œend game gearā€
ā€œmeta class buildā€
ā€œgolden shining no.1 on the headā€
"tran tran tran"
and such.

WoE is a support content that well made I agreed, but I think the early stage yes, and going up it too rely on OP items and bot farming for resources.
I think Guild Wars 2 WvWvW also very engaging, arguable good balancing and much better in group fight.

Actually right now I’m in a high of guild, I mean my guild could be top 1 guild in varena if I correct. But because I’m not famous like other members, poor and very weak, I once asked to go hunt world boss with me but unfortunately they just ignored me because it were wasting their time.

Boring people suggested boring suggestions.[/quote]
When R8 came out, mobs were really tough.
[Although imo a big part of the issue was that players were just too bad to be up for the challenge (and no, I don’t mean bad gear, I meant stupidity).]
People were crying right and left how ā€œunfairā€ it was that they cannot solo anymore at 300+ so… IMC did that. Which, in the end, made it so you can solo without any trouble even if you’re 20 levels below.
While most people don’t enjoy being one shot by a random mob just when going through a map, making it so you can face 5-10 mobs and get close to no damage is so stupidly boring.
They went from one extrem to another.

You will never enjoy any new mmorpg even a new RO3 or RO4 or ROwhatevers since it was you the naive newbie noob inexperienced you who played that game for the 1st time.

You will never experience being a virgin in a mmorpg anymore.

it isnt whatever mmorpg title that will be the issue, it will be the player expecting nostalgic experience that will never happen that will be disappointed…

Well at least until some invent one of these in real life.

would be nice to have harder hgs, ones that are like… 10X harder.

like many have said in the past, the trans system mucked things up pretty good. I like the idea of obtaining valuable items such as blessed shards but I think the difficulty of the game would be improved if there was no such thing as trans.

you can’t turn the internet and mmos back in time to 10 or 15 or whatever years ago. it’s gone.

Even HG 315 is not that challenging!

WIth a 315 non trans blue weapon and I can kill a mob train in a single spell rotation… I even have some dmg to spare. I don’t have to proc chap

Been playing Mabinogi off and on for 8 years for this reason. It’s not like the game is even salvageable anymore, but I can’t get over the almost a decade of emotional abuse. FeelsBadMan

ET, transcendence and practonium combined with outright broken builds became the start of many problems with ToS, with the levels of ā€˜abuse’ one can only look back and say, I should have taken a part in it. The end result now is that you have a major divide between players and only those who band for the same purpose find reasons to stay with this game.

I’d want to believe that this game is great, but there seems to be this incredible wall that seems to grow taller everyday from abuses which we have no control over. And once people reach this point, this is where many decide that is not a wall worth climbing over.

That’s not entirely correct.

I feel nostalgic about RO but not the gameplay or the design. Most of the people I know who played with me wants a different game than RO but with the same design concept (and similar gameplay).

It’s like saying to WoW players that GW2 will not be enjoyable for them because they aren’t ā€œvirginsā€ in the MMORPG scene… The reality is that they don’t like GW2 because there is no trinity.

Most of my friends don’t like ToS as much as RO not because of nostalgia but because grinding in party isn’t a thing here (you can but people just do instances… Tree of dailies like some people say), because the world is almost completely lineal, because the gear is something very similar to WoW where instead of something that complements your build, is something that just add stats.

Just like WoW (themepark) players want raids (the thing that made WoW and, in general, themepark MMOs special) in others MMO targeted to them, RO players want what made RO special in other games.

My friends and me quit Black Desert Online because the sandbox part wasn’t sandbox, not because of nostalgia. My friends and me quit GW2 because the game catered (at least when I left) to the most casual crowd of the MMO scene, not because of nostalgia.

Of course, there are people who can’t enjoy MMOs anymore because of nostalgia. However, that’s because they never liked MMORPGs, they think they like them because of that nostalgia (hello people who want singleplayer gameplay to be relevant in a MMO, hello people who want ZERO grind in a MMO, hello people who don’t socialize, hello people who think that all classes should do everything because ā€œI can’t grind with my healer because of no damage, with my tank solo because of no heals and with my dps solo because of no tankā€).

IDK aboout you but im not a swartzer reiter and i dont have max gear so this doesnt apply to me

Well, I’m a late bloomer kind of gamer, this is my third ā€œmmoā€, ā€œonline gameā€, I played Diablo3 (not really a MMO, I’m aware of that), Blade and Soul, and TOS.

I don’t have a solid past experience to compare with TOS, but I have a lot of friends who played RO and others MMos for ten years, and I know these guys for a long time, talking to them, it feels to me that despite others reasons, their main issue with dislike some aspects of TOS is because of nostalgia, of course they don’t realize or recognize this, but through my perspective it feels that way.

You can make the game hard, but make it hard for everyone, not just the casual players whilst whales still 1hko everything. that’s not hard, that’s called milking the whales xD

The Game is way to easy now.
The lvl 50&lvl 80 duns are a joke now.
I can clean it solo under 5 minutes with a lvl 50 char…

The R8 maps are way to easy too.
Some mobbs before the patch may have a high hp pool that was anoying but now its just a joke.
