I feel so... cheated

I just don’t even know where to begin… So many things are lacking in comparison to the current market trend in MMORPGs. I paid for the access pass 1 which was $54.99~ and I really wish I hadn’t.

I mean… There’s quests that don’t display properly, and I can still see all the string and print arguments in code. Then there are skills and item descriptions that are still in korean. I mean I know these are all little things, but if you can’t even handle the little things, how are you going to deal with the bigger issues and move onto bigger things. You don’t learn to run before you walk. It almost feels like you guys ran out of budget and just … did things for the sake of it and it feels so half assed. It’s like the game wasn’t even made by people who play games. I mean… lets not even talk about the game, even the website itself is VERY uninformative and is lacking in so much information. I mean, it doesn’t even have a section that tells you the basic class breakdowns, why do I have to go to a website like www.tosbase.com to find out something so… elementary… shouldn’t those have been one of the more important information to have in the guides? I think you guys should hire them to manage your web content lmao. The linearity, the lack of replay value, dull story lines, lack of diversity (not classes, I think those are fine), horrible AI … just… … I don’t even… I went through level 1-45 literally pressing 3 buttons on my archer … and 1 of them I shouldn’t even count since it’s just a buff. And… my pet… it’s … literally… dumb. Why can’t I pick who he attacks? because half the time he actually just… doesn’t do anything and stands there. Their skills … they … do they even work most the time? LOL when my pet finally attacks something and I press Rush Dog … … … more often than not, he just… kinda chills yenno? The SP is spent, but he ain’t rushing nothing, might as well rename the skill to “Netflix & Chill” I spent time to earn some money and I upgrade his stats… but you know… he still does 1 damage after hefty investments. Yes yes yes, I know about the level differences and all that. But that in itself is already a problem that I won’t go into. But hey, let’s give benefit of the doubt and just assume that he is unresponsive due to server lag… server lag… … well wait a minute… well ■■■■, that too is a problem in itself that I also won’t get too deeply into, but I’m west coast, lets just leave it at that. But why did you choose to launch a game in the Americas and not have a west coast server? I saw your charts, 30% of your player share is in NA, THE BIGGEST PIECE OF THE PIE and you decided to have 2 (if i’m not mistaken) east coast servers. Meaning there are a large portion of people in the Americas (obviously not only limited to the Americas) that you definitely want to keep happy so they keep spending money. How about them skill/stat resets? Nowadays, a majority of successful MMORPGs don’t make people pay real money to reset stats and skills. Because in-order for people to have the most efficient or enjoyable experience, they tend to reset very damn often. Most games tackle this problem by allowing people to have 2 sets of builds which they can swap between and they charge real money for additional slots for different builds, but they don’t make them pay real money to reset the builds… people should only pay for things to make things more “accessible or convenient” for them. They shouldn’t have to pay to win the game, and stats are a BIG part of this game obviously. What was the strategy behind this…? if you were only thinking of ways to make money then there’s other ways for you guys to make it… you don’t have to milk people for every service offering. LOL ayyyeeee… I could write a whole textbook explaining all the issues but it just feels like it’d be asking you to pretty much remake this whole game.

The mechanics, the algorithms… the features… your business model… just everything… this is just so wrong… I get you guys are trying to still stay true to the formal RO concept but damn man… it only looks the same visually, but it definitely by far is no where nearly as good as RO in terms of the backend development.

I just… I just wanna cry for you guys. I feel so speechless. It’s been such a long time since I’ve felt this way about a MMORPG. It’s like… everything is moving backwards in this game. The fact that you guys are the devs for RO made me have bigger and better expectations. It almost seems like there was a key member who was on the old team but is now missing.

I’m sorry… I know this post is not very constructive in terms of how you guys can improve the game, but there are already a countless amount of other reviews out there who have already addressed alot of the issues. I know I sound like an ■■■■■■■, but really it’s for stressing the emphasis on how much improvement this game needs. I played ALOT of RO back in the day which is why I’m even bothering with this. I just… really wanted to express how I feel about this whole thing, the fact that this whole post is so unorganized and ideas are everywhere is a direct expression of how I really feel about it all and how lost for words I am. This game should not have launched yet and should definitely still be in BETA in my opinion (deadlines are a bitch eh?). You guys need start thinking about how to fix your game before you start thinking about how you’re going to make some REAL money through the TP shop. Take a look at League of Legends business model (not the gameplay)… they’re smart and things for the most part makes sense which is why so many business models are formed around theirs and it’s so evident in so many of the new games across all genres. I don’t take bias, but I’m a graduated business major and a tech major so I look at alot of things that correlate to the two subjects as I’m also an investor in the industry. I’m worried that if you guys don’t fix your problems you won’t have enough “clients” to even spend money in your shop. I won’t ask for a refund since I read the terms … but I’ll be taking a break until the game improves.

Will this be a DOG or will this be a COW?

I will pick only the first paragraph because honestly, this text wall is not that worth to read.

You buy EA from a game you don’t know the state and want to complain about it? First and foremost, do a research about it, this game is far from be complete, there are lots of bugs and glitches. On the KR server is the same, besides i still think the KR version is ahead of ours without a doubt in term of patches, i think every other KR MMO do the same when they have western publishers.

If you haven’t used anything from the pack you bought, which i doubt, try to ask for a refund, if not, you will have to live with this.

A frog. It will be sht at first, all it can do is swim around in murky ugly water. Eventually it’ll grow a foundation of legs but there will be many predators in the way. There are many young new growing frogs out there, but most of them don’t live long enough. Falling prey to multiple predators that engulf them in darkness and they will never truly know what it means to rise up and complete their dream.

If Tree of Savior endures the hardships of growing up and avoids problems such as disease and predators, they will get closer to their dream.

If they survive and develop till the end, they will be able to be free from the chains of being grounded. They can leap and reach higher grounds.

THEY ARE FROG. Not a dog that can be chained and ruled by an idiot. THEY ARE FROG. Not a cow where their life is slowly sucked away in an ugly environment then slaughtered at the end. THEY ARE FROG. If they endure the chains of dirt and murky waters of life they can reach new higher grounds! New higher levels of development!! ADVANCED KNOWLEDGE AND POWER!!!

PRAISE LE FROG!!!

Just my toughts here…

basically you get into a game that is already officially stated that is based on OLD gaming concepts a bit remodernized… and you complain because it feels… old.

Maybe you should have done your research better?

About the korean lines i really don’t know since at this point in time i’ve done literally hundreds of quests and i didn’t find a single jorean word… not even in skills etc…

Sure there’re a lot of things that need improvement… bugs will go with time, lag will go away whit time and when more servers are open… the most important things to change are about gameplay restrictions that 80% of the playerbase is complaining about, i agree on some things that you said in this reguard, but i still have hope IMC will listen and make it right as soon as possible…

But about the “it feels like going back” that was to be expected and is a reason why ost people actually want to play this game… if you want “totally new” then ToS is definitly not the game for you… and i’m not saying this in a “who cares about you just leave” way, i really mean it like… you’re probably not into ToS target audience

I’m gonna give a suggestion to the Frog about how to survive…

ALL HAIL THE FROG PUNCH!

I didn’t read everything, but i see you only got to lvl 45. Thats not very far. that is like lvl 10 in WoW when there was only 60 lvls. Can’t expect it to be difficult that early in the game.

The game was just released. It’s going to be buggy.

I also want to say that im having alot of fun in this game.

I bought this game expecting it to be like the old RO. Of course I wasn’t looking for open world maps or anything of that sort such as most of the other MMOs nowadays. But at the same time, I don’t know how much of the old RO you’ve played, but this games backend design is NOT the same as the former, they have their similarities, but I suspect there might have been copyright issues perhaps which prevented them to make something that’d mirror ROs systems.

It’s like I said, visually, everything is the way it should be and that’s fine. But you have to realize even RO wasn’t this linear. They still had different zones that you can explore for your level, you weren’t limited to the whole “Your this level, therefore you HAVE to be leveling on this map or zone.”, the former gave you different options. I’m not complaining that their style is old, but rather it’s not balanced if you will.

TL DR;

Tree of Savior, as a company as a product and as a whole, has alot that needs to be fixed is what I’m saying. There isn’t just any ONE thing that i’m picking at in particular, because there obviously is too many. Things from a technical stand point, an information stand point, and a business stand point amongst others…

Well, as of right now there are 2 different starting questlines and you can alternate between them. I’m not sure what level they carry you to until they meet up though.

There are also different options where you can grind at, but i wish they will add some kind of dungeon mainly for grinding that gets stronger as you go down floors and covers a large amount of levels. Maybe a few of these dungeons with different themes. That would be cool.

Remind me of Maple Story, how it was at first and how it is now
We can dream, guys

oh JAYZUZ that’s some great wall o’text ya go there. well, let’s break it down a bit.

you’re upset because the retro-styled mmo feels retro style. ok then.

this sounds more like a “you” problem than a “game” problem. i browse the forum a fair bit, and this is one i don’t hear.
open the settings, make sure it’s set to english, restart.
if that doesn’t fix it, you should reinstall.

swordsman, archer, cleric, wizard… these are pretty standard archetypes. hard to imagine someone into MMO’s who doesn’t at least have a guess as to what these are,
as for in-depth info, that’s ALWAYS been the realm of fansites and wikis.

ok hang on… is this ACTUALLY your first MMO experience ever? because these are pretty much standard for all MMO’s.
“oh no. the big bad thing happened, and the world is in peril. please fetch me 3 apples so i can start you out on the quest to personally fix everything.”

replay value is about experiencing it all again with a new character, and different playstyle. i mean, isn’t that pretty much how “replay value” works in basically every game – “do it again, but a little differently”?

as for AI… i don’t know what you were expecting, but “pretty dumb AI” is the standard everywhere.

if you know about the intentional level differences thing, then why are you complaining about it? this is pretty much core to any levelling game. higher level monsters are too strong to fight, and lower level are too weak to reward you.

i’m west coast too. are you atill using tin cans and string? can’t help you if your basic internet service is the problem.
the east coast has something like double the population of the west coast… and any decent internet should really have no trouble accessing from coast to coast anyway.

nowadays, that “majority of successful mmorpgs” are an ez-mode race to level cap, and carefully hold your hand to make sure you CAN’T make a mistake in your build, before letting you loose into the wild free-for-all of carefully balanced and optimized pvp, in well-controlled areas. ToS, like its spiritual ancestor, treats you like real life: it gives you a kick in the backside and sends you flying out the door, and forces you to make your own decisions from there.

a; there is no “win”, and b; you -don’t- have to pay.
strategy: standard procedure.

almost everything in the cash shop is a convenience feature. the one outstanding “p2w” item is the enchant scroll, which is just slightly out of reach of the non-paying user.

"things are different than i’m used to! ;-; "

pretty sure that’s just a perception the fans have shoved onto it… i’ve never seen it officially suggested as any kind of sequel to RO.
that said, i think you never played RO to make that comparison, since… “The mechanics, the algorithms… the features… your business model… just everything… this is just so” …very much almost exactly the same as RO was/is.
character development, combat, playstyle, and basically everything feels very similar to RO… right down to the cute monsters everywhere, and the hefty grinding.
and by “very similar”, i mean nearly lifted straight out of the old game, repainted, and dropped into the new.
as for the backend stuff, aka, “under the hood” … who cares?

first you complain it’s not like RO, and then you complain it’s not the same as.

more “why aren’t you copying the games i already like?”

i’m an expert you know! and i’ve got lots of money, so you better listen to me!
after the comments about how “different” RO was, it’s starting to feel like you’re just making things up to pretend you’re an expert.

what in the hell is that even supposed to mean?
i hate dogs, and steak is delicious… but lots of people like dogs… but lots of people like steak…
which one is even supposed to be the ‘good’ choice?

right now, it feels like it’ll be a dog.
one of those tiny little yappy ones that bites if you don’t pet it, then bites you anyway just because.
at least, filled with posts like these, that’s what the forums make me feel like.

i want to go on, but i know it’s pointless, and i’m really tired now.

I will answer quoting the interview that has been made with the ToS dev team time ago:

" Ragnarok and Arcturus are not our games. Therefore, those games do not have any relationships with our game. "

This is where you went wrong to begin with.

Again, as i said on my first post, you buy a game without research its state first, you are only shooting your own feet.[quote=“svalinn85, post:11, topic:186899”]

More simple than this ^ i can’t find other answer.

…and yet this intrigues me. i feel like i should now find out more about this “Arcturus”…

–update–
and apparently that was a dead-end.

Arcturus was a old RPG. there were plans to make an MMO out of it, and the one screenshot i found bears a lot of resemblance to very early RO. however, the mmo appears to have been scrapped.

just in case anyone else found themselves intrigued.

So essentially “please make it like this MMORPG I like”.
