Hunter Pet behaviour still broken?

I decided to come back to ToS if the Hunter was at least a little bit fixed as I don’t really like playing if half of my skills just get stuck halfway through.
So basically:
Does Rush Dog actually work now?
As far as I know it didn’t get used (supposedly getting canceled by pet auto attack) but went on cooldown a few months back.
Is this still the case?

I will test it myself in 5 days since I don’t have acces to ToS atm for anybody wondering why I don’t test it myself.

Rush dog: Targeting is as it was, when the “Fix” hit, well, it ignored this skill. Whenever the pet gets stunned it will resume the last command issued.

Retrieve: Fixed targeting, now you must select one target before being able to use this if you don’t want to blow your CD.

Coursing: Fixed targeting and behaviour, now once it ends the pet rushes towards you (same as when rush dog finishes, this behaviour is applied to coursing, retrieve, rush dog, snatching)

Snatching: The “Fix” also ignored this skill, so targeting is as it was.

Hounding: Now it ends whenever the companion hits anything, it no longers causes retrieve to rush to your face with whatever is in your companion’s mouth, unless, you use it while your companion has something in its mouth, then, it will rush with whatever is in its mouth towards you.

Growling: working as intended. for now.

Pointing: I don’t have this skill, can’t comment on its state.

Praise: Now it makes your companion auto attack faster, for some unknown reason this was a “buff”.

As I mentioned, whenever the pet gets stunned it will resume whatever command was last issued. if your pet is stunned I advice agaisnt issuing further commands mostly because you’ll blow your cd in vain waiting for the pet to move, and it will overwrite the last command issued.

The pet still occasionally gets stuck, /comeon helps with making somewhat bearable if you’re in a dungueon.

Yup, Hunter is as weak as it ever was, I still really wish companion HP was multiplied by a lot whenever a hunter has that companion around, but hey atleast is a fun to play class filled with challenges.

I don’t really care how weak it is. The problem for me mostly was really that I pressed Rush Dog and literally nothing happened - not resuming after stun or whatever…nothing.
As long as the pet does something now I think I’ll enjoy it a bit. (Hunter has the pet heal passive and stuff at least)

Thanks for the detailed answer

Well Hunter skills are a bit tricky still in that regard, you are absolutely able to cast your skills, but, if your pet is far from your target it will completly ignore any commands.

If your target is close enough and your pet is close enough you won’t have problems in casting your skills, executing them is a little bit different. Since we’re relying on the path finding of our companions, and let me tell you, it sucks. Most of the time our companion will chase the target instead of executing the skills, sometimes it even stands still next to the target without executing the skill.

If your pet is knockedback by anything this makes the previous problem worse. since now it has to recalculate stuff and it’s bad at doing that. Relying on your pet is a must, yet you cannot rely on it.

Specific situation:
Siauli mission last boss, only the tree is left. No shield on boss, isn’t throwing fruits. pet is attacking the boss (right next to it) and pet has not eaten CC.
Will Rush Dog hit?

Or rather: can it get cancelled by the pets auto attacks?

Pet auto attacking has no bearing, commands now overwrite current behaviour so rush dog will execute.

Growling is the only thing that cannot be overwritten, your pet will attempt skills but cannot move from the current position. Once you cancel growling with /comeon it will proceed with whatever you issued.

The only remaining problem you’ll find when using rush dog is its current targeting.

-Edit-

Also would like to add: you can now disable auto attacking, makes the pet more reliable since now it will stick close to you instead of trying to taste those inviting basic traps.

YES! Thank you. Guess I can return to the game

You can just turn off pet auto attack if you want, pet becomes way more reliable with that option turned off.

Enjoy the bumpy ride, Hunter is fun and in the latest patches they’ve been giving him some deserved attention. Hopefully they fix 98% of the current issues with companion AI.

IMC is quite interesting, most problems with this class are AI related, and I bet creating a reset AI command would be easy to implement yet they’ve not done so, instead they put that force onto player position command which fixes nothing once the AI is broken.

I think the way the engine has worked in the past would turn a reset AI auto script into the next emote cancel :joy:
