Hunter fixed / nerfed (Rush Dog / Snatching)

Rush Dog and Snatching are now targetted skills as those old patch notes mentioned.

In addition, they now also reset the companion’s state upon use, so using Coursing / Retrieve / Growling before them will remove the companion from those states, effectively killing off all of what synergy they previously had with each other.
So yeah, if you’re using Coursing / Retrieve, you can’t use Rush Dog for additional DPS unless you want to stop pinning down your target.

Note that they will still fail (and cause the state reset) if you’re targetting something outside of the companion’s range.

So if you’re intending to reset to Hunter for PvP, take note that you won’t be getting any DPS as one unless you want to sacrifice your control abilities.

It is a shame, and it makes no sense to remove it, specially now.

Atleast for PvP we still have a combo to take clerics out of their safety zone, I won’t name it, just so they don’t spoil that for us either. but for those that played as hunters for a long time, or during the buggiest of times, they’ll know what can be done.

This changes diminshes our possible DPS but it can be worked around. still a shame.

Yeah, it’s quite a tragedy, especially for Rush Dog.

Rush Dog was in an odd position from the start, giving subpar damage before they buffed it (though there was the thing about it going through block & evade in PvP).
Aftter the initial damage buff, it was still inferior to coursing in terms of overall damage while consuming a huge amount of SP, relegating its role to getting rid of small groups of weak monsters or additional burst in PvP at higher levels.

And right after they buff companions through equipment, they kill off its usage in PvP. No one will really choose to land Rush Dog instead of Coursing / Retrieve unless the opponent is at critical HP (or for the silly cloak-rush-dog combo), so it’s only really usable for getting rid of weak monsters now even with the equipment buff, rendering it effectively useless in R8 content…

It’s not too much of an issue if you’re just Hunter1 and relying on other classes for DPS, but the lack of control with DPS hurts at higher circles of Hunter.

Snatching, on the other hand, is honestly still perfectly fine since its damage is DoT rather than frequent bursts.

Hounding/Pointing, don’t act like it’s a secret. It’s a bug.

Is it a bug though ;D? and let it be like that, hounding does no damage. and a quick nope to that safety zone to only one target is pretty fair.

hi tappity are u thinking in change or continue c3 hunt
Im struggling more than ever to make simple kills.

I didn’t get Hunter3 for the sake of PvP or anything.
It’s mostly a casual(ly masochistic) build.

Hunter would be much stronger right now if we had both targetting and coursing > rush dog, but that’s honestly because everyone’s a sage these days. Rush dog’s the only burst damage capable of going through that (hackapell aside).
I would rather hope they nerf missile hole in PvP and let archers actually be able to do something.

That said, it certainly is annoying not having the combo in R8 PvE content.

Alternatively, we could try maxing bayonet thrust… (definitely not a good idea)
Changing to Rogue may work too…

similar story here, but i want to use red panda with c3 hunter in the future no c2 so im still goin c3 hunt but not sure if continue the scout 2 musk

I think there should be better class to use with growl , thinking for places like earth tower.

Falconer makes growling amazing. and good luck getting the red panda, I’m in the same boat, still 15k points until panda. I wonder why it has to take almost the same amount as a human baby to be born to get an ingame pet that won’t be all that amazing. Story of this game: long time investment, high disappointment.

I’d like them to fix this issue already

So is maxing out rush dog even worth it? Lv15 with 1350 attack pet and it doesn’t seem to do much damage (6-9k with 50% enhance). I’ve still a skill reset potion lying around and I could reduce it to lv1 or 5 and invest more points into snatching:
Coursing 15 (from 12), Retrieve 10, Growling 3, Hounding 2, rest 1 and the remaining points into snatching.

Mine is at lv 15 with 1502 ATK and it does around 12k with attribute at 72, Personally I find rush dog to be a skill that has a lot of potential, specially now that they’ve allowed pets to use weapons.

In later ranks it might still be useful due to it being able to use weapons, afterall the difference between rank 7 and 8 weapons is quite significant, even if they’re not able to use transcended weapons and perhaps they’ll even have the courtesy of adding white recipes from the get go on later ranks. But that’s my vision. it will come down as how you play, ask yourself if you even use rush dog and perhaps there’ll be your answer.

Well, I was considering leveling up snatching a bit more (mine is 1) for PVE especially in groups. Although I don’t see how it could be useful otherwise, for PVP I’ve Birdfall.

Also my pet is still missing two didel tower shields with 2*lv5 or higher red gems each which would be another 400 Attack and yea the current 315 weapons might not be worth it especially with the min/max damage increase as bonus but hopefully they add a few white/blue ones…

To be honest, I highly doubt it’s worth getting 2 of those shields and 4 red gems at that level just for that bit of extra damage on Hunter skills…

I’m not sure, do red gems on the shield count for pets? I mean weapon stat do nothing, armor stats seem to work but I don’t know if gems work. haven’t tried.

It likely does, red gems on subweapons are reported to work.
What matters is the “Physical Attack” stat.

The Red Gem I’ve in my Manamana works fine on my Pet. Shields are offhand after all as well (or at least should be).

Red Gem main hand doesn’t seem to work because it increases flat the max attack and the Pet only has Attack (neither min nor max).

A more Budget option is Alemeth tower shield (Two slots, 98def) but I want the con and mdef from the Didel one (if they work…). The luxury edition would be Lionhead Shield but I think this might be a bit too much.

im gettin used to it now, i can use growl stay far from him and chose targets things out of my character range .
btw they should fix the frozt thing wich is ridiculous.

Hello guys, I wonder if anyone knows whether player’s crit atk & crit rate add to coursing damage. Thanks!

Anyway, about missile hole, can we just use coursing + multishot them instead? To remove the 16 hit count.

All hunter skills use the archers stats except for rush dog. Rush dog uses the pets stats. Also no, the skills do not snapshot when used except for the skill level. (If you were thinking this)

To all hunters, isn’t it believed that pets gain the average of the weapons dmg as attack, so wouldn’t the new 315 weapons be good for pets? Given that min + makes the average higher.

my pet with rush dog lvl 17 , atribute 70 and aston +5 does average 10-12k on mobs
