How to level companions?

I’m playing two archer characters in parallel with a Velheider companion I bought since the very beggining. At level 65, both my characters are already higher level than my companion. I’ve stopped using any exp cards from quests, so my characters would not get the extra experience from them. Still, my companion seems will never catch up in level.

So far I have found companions only get exp from killed monsters as a percentage of the damage they inflict to them. So if your main character happens to be dealing most of the damage to the monsters, your companion will only get a negligible portion of the experience.

Spending silver in training your companion is useless. You would be requested to spend thousands of silvers if wanted to barely increase physical attack of your companion by 1. :anguished:

How am I meant to level my companion? Am I missing something, or are companions just intended to be useless in this game?

Also, I was thinking on going hunter C1 with one of my characters. Do you still recommend me going for it in knowing how useless companions are?

For my companion its been leveling up steadily with me by doing kill counts on every single map… pretty crazy but it helps complete collections haha.

My companion is now lv156 and im lv179 - doing missions also helps getting it a lot of exp, but when you use exp cards you surpass your companion of course

Btw, I don’t even feed it - I dont care about its running speed, Im just leveling it up - im not a hunter anyway.

My companion doesnt hit monsters most of the time and gets exp anyway

Companions gain xp when the player gains xp by kills alone.

Your companion recibe more experience if you kill mobs near your lvl.
You kill lvl 30 mob, it recibe 1 exp.
You kill a lvl180 mob, it recibe 200 exp.

And remember, companion dont have reset lvl and they need less experience at start, but they need more experience in lvl 200 than you.

Mmm… I see. I have tested it again and it does actually get experience even if not inflicting any damage to the monster. Don’t know why it seemed to me it was not getting any experience before, probably because the monsters I was killing were low level.
