Help with Sapper/Wugushi combo build for mass aoe

Hi Guys,

I am trying to max my AoE archer build.
Its really hard to fit everything (have to wait for c8 for the scout to do all the dirty things from the stealth lol).
I understand that Sapper c2 is must have for the Broom trap, and Wugushi c3 Jincan Gu will add some aoe madness too.

So thats a build

Max AoE Sapper Wugushi
The build is max STR

Not sure about c7, may be will go Canoneer or Scout for the PvP

Do you think it has a chance to survive?

I just wish I could take Sapper c1 straight away after archer…

Thanks!

Questions:

  • Why QS and not Ranger or Archer 2? Ranger has AoE while QS doesn’t; Archer 2 has Swift Steps to help with your crits.
  • Are you sure about max STR? You probably need quite a bit of DEX to prevent missing, and traps can crit.

After reading the forum threads on how buggy the scaling on Jincan Gu can be, I’d recommend Canoneer because it has shorter cd while being AoE. Also, Earth Tower.

Thank you for the advice.

QS for the Scatter Caltrops. I read that they do a nice agrro and scale with traps/poison. Didnt want Swift Steps since Wugushi skills dont crit. Ranger 2 is an option. Thanks!

The same reason as above - Wugushi skills dont crit. So I thought to do more damage is worth a few misses.

TBH I found only positive reviews of Jincan Gu and thats the main reason why i choose Wugushi C3 and Wugushi at all. If its not so Canoneer is defiantly better.
In this case : Archer > QS/Ranger1 > Sapper1 > Sapper2> Scout1 > Scout2/Rogue1 > Canoneer.
Still a lot of AoE + stealth

I have never gone c3, sadly. All the issues with poison overriding each other and speculation on Piep Piper possibly having good synergy with Wugushi has made me postpone that build for a while, despite Poison being my love.

QS does have good taunts, which may save you a lot of time trying to stay alive and gather mobs. Reason: I am the Suicidal Archer due to my traps freezing me in the middle of a huge crowd I just gathered.

Honestly, go what you want. Plenty of people would tell you not to go the first build because of Earth Tower and the large number of Wugushis running around. But that’s really only a big concern for Boss hunters and Earth Tower, so I wouldn’t worry much.

Second build sounds nice too, since there’s been a video of a Scout being able to ‘tank’ due to weird aggro mechanics. As for stealth, don’t worry about it. As soon as your Broom Trap hits enemies, you’re not stealth-ed.

For R7 I think canoneer is nice for shotdown because those aoe from sapper and wugushi are restrict to ground enemies

I’m confused why aggro generation is a “perk” for an archer base class.

Please explain, just seems one more reason to NOT go QS to me.

Your poisons have a 20 and 25 second cooldown, what do you intend to be doing during this timeframe aside that 2-3 second rotation that takes 2 seconds? Other than never critting by the sounds of it.

I think stone throwing could be good in PvP if it stuns before you explode. Pavice is nice but, it isn’t really too effective except for archer base-types.

Of course these are my opinions… I feel c2 archer currently brings more to the table as a dps build. Even swiftstep is nice for kiting while oblique spamming for filler dps or whatever you do. Full draw at 7+ is instant/good for PvP to setup trap kills or remove one from a fight vs pretty much any class without stoneskin.

I’ve been contemplating R7 job a lot myself, I’m heavily looking forward to pied piper as Mooon said many seem to be wish I knew what rank it was gonna be! Shootdown is attractive, other than that I feel cannoneer damage will fall off once the game scales over level 300+ and flat damage becomes outdated.

Wugushi and Sapper don’t have great sinergy. Sapper benefits greatly from crit, Wugushi doesn’t.
Another thing is that you delay Wugushi because of the Sapper C2 being a must, starting from rank 3.

I would suggest choosing betwen Wugushi and Sapper and rounding a new build around ur choice.

For Sapper, Go Archer C2 before.
For Wugushi, you don’t have great sinergy with all the previous classes. I would try Archer C2 -> Hunter.

Aggro generation is a perk in this build because of the traps and the pot. With QS, you can gather mobs at one spot without risking your own body, then dump down your pot/trap. Voila, have fun staring at all the numbers popping out and maybe shield your eyes from the blinding poison effect caused by Throw Gu Pot.

As someone who’s been in way too many missions to have good sanity (blame the end of CBT where there was nothing else to do), a Sapper/Wugu would basically just throw all the poisons and traps possible at the boss before running around avoiding AoE. Quest bosses melt quite easily with poison and traps, so AA is mostly enough to keep you occupied while waiting for the boss to die, or your skill to finish cooling down.

There is always a demand for higher dps. Just because “quest mob is easy” doesn’t mean the desire to do higher dps shouldn’t exist as there’s simply harder/more rewarding content than that.

Its a bit weird to me if caltrops have aggro like claymore does, especially given that its thrown… If it works that way I’m not so sure that’s intended and seems a bit silly tbh. But yes I can at least see advantages to that in solo / high level party play.

I haven’t noticed my other traps generating any aggro short from being hittable / destroyable. (looking at you stockade! huff) Maybe that’s cause I can’t throw them. Either way, interesting info.
