hey there, never played ToS but been reading on it… really hyped. anyways, im thinking of going with this build but unsure if its viable or how i should proceed for rank 7. any advice and suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
why peltasta? why not hightlander for passive buff
wanted to get swashbuckling for group play! is highlander a better choice?
thanks for the reply btw!
as i know it improves 2h sword using passive. for group play u will another member with this type of buffs. i should make damage i think
well i guess the big debate would be going either pelt or highlander.
Because it is also good without highlander. Highlander’s passive from his class only works for crit attack. Which can be multiplied but it will never be as significant as physical and skill attack.
I’m considering a similar build @kennyxsin but similarly to you I’m stuck on rank 6 And 7. There are a lot of combinations possible, but I think I will do it like this ( with rank 8+ into dragoon unless something better becomes available ).
I left helm chopper low because for me, its just an enabler for additional damage from cleave. I think both frenzy and warcry bonuses are attainable, warcry even easier since we have swashbuckler. What we lack in a bit would be crit and multihits to make use of all that damage we’re stacking, and so for me stabbing and piercing fill that niche well, with finestra providing additional +100 crit to the +50 cleave provided, with spear lunge giving us that +50% pierce damage on a mob - which we will use before piercing and stabbing to maximize damage. Also, hoplite on steroids has some amazing compatibility with linker for example.
As said before, rank 8 dragoon for that switch to 2h spears for additional damage, +15% damage to mobs hit by gae bulg and 2 multihit skills. Unless something betters comes to sight.
Another idea is to put dragoon at 7 already, for additional multihit skills if our rotation is otherwise lacking. Which is a viable option but we lose 50 critical rate and spear lunge (+50% pierce damage) because we didn’t go hoplite c2.
If neither of those interest you, I’d look into fencer 2 after barbarian as a possibility, or just continue doppelsoldner. I might switch to doppelsoldner myself if DoV holds on to stacks already accumulated on skill refresh, but otherwise I probably won’t.
ah. i see. thanks for the reply. i wanted doppel cause the whirlwind skill seems bad ass hahah… you make a very strong arguement for hoplite though… i just can’t seem to make up my mind…
plz, dont go with your barb hop build, its bad, u will suffer and probably end up rerolling
What kind of stat distribution should I be looking at for the barb build? Dex? Or str?
Thanks for the heads up but you havent proven to me in any way to have any actual knowledge of the game, only thing I see you doing is little comments like the one just now here and there. Consider giving actual input if you want to be taken seriously.
@kennyxsin depends which one are you talking about really, and also if you actually want crit consistently. You need to get around 450 crit rate at level 280 to get a consistent 55% crit rate or so. That can be done via gems, self buffs to some extend, gems in weapons ( 92 x2 in main weapon and 120 in off hand if you go with sword + dagger instead 2h ), other buffs like zalcai for example.
If critting is a thing but you want to dodge too then thats more dex. If you want to have a high block ratio thats con. Blocking I doubt will be much needed now, but in the future I can see it being important - even more if youre the only swordsman in the dungeon group, and you have no barrier from paladin.
ur build can work, but will be worst than most of other ppl builds. u are picking a rank 3-4 class (hoplite) instead of rank 6-7.
i played 175 hours in the last beta, and i tested a lot of builds (barb c3 one too) - also i did TONS! of research for my own swordsman build.
u have to choose what u want for your build, if u want a barbarian with sword and shield, thats probably not bad (if u go for fencer instead of hoplite)
if u want hoplite c3, u can go doppel >dragoon. like this
this is one of my favorites PvE builds
or u could go for barbarian with highlander and doppel
this is good too
i’m going for a pure 2h sword, but with a diferent build
I’m not asking about builds, I can make those too. I simply do not build my builds around rank 7, because it is not the end of the content. The barb into hoplite one is an extreme example of that, but you still didn’t show me it does not work. All you did was state you have experience and state an opinion.
Picking a lower rank doesn’t Have to be worse just because it’s a lower rank. It’s the synergy that matters.
Doppelsoldner has been nerfed badly and I don’t see it as a better source of multihits then dragoon. Also, I’m still waiting for confirmation from catexis that stacks on DoV actually are refreshed aswell and stay at the previously attained level if you have a 100% uptime of it. If it doesn’t, well guess what pal. Not great without a 2h sword.
Show me some numbers behind your thoughts, anyone can say this is good this isn’t but what do you actually have to prove that?
Let me show you a safe variant of my build, just so you know I’m not a madman either.
u are trading doppel c1 (probably the best 1 circle in swordsman tree right now) for hoplite c1 (that only worth it if u go c2 for lunge)
if u go for doppel instead of hplite, that build will be A LOT better for end game
and u forgot about frenzy too
Of course doppel c1 isn’t the best anymore. It can be still a beast IF the stacks stay, but thats c2 doppel not c1. What does c1 actually offer? A nerfed cyclone, and a 100% crit on cloth mordshlag?
Where as hoplite offers me a 14 hit multihit with stabbing, if nothing else. Hoplite c1 isn’t worthless either.
I didn’t forget about frenzy in the safe build, I deliberately didn’t take it. It’s called a safe build for a reason, it incorporates things that will be useful 100% and doesn’t go out of those boundaries. Warcry with swashbuckling is a 100% safe bonus that I can almost always max. Frenzy? Frenzy is a good idea if I go hoplite 2, because then I will have gaps in my skill rotation meaning I can actually build up those stacks with autoattacks.
Again, with the a lot better for end-game. What do You know about end-game? We have at least 3 more ranks of classes to see. We don’t know how attainable ghost chestpieces will be. Give me some examples instead of an opinion. I’m showing you numbers again and again but you just say this is better because it is, this is better. Seriously man, I don’t mind getting proven wrong but you have to show me actual arguments.
if u really think c1 hoplite is better than c1 doppel, i dont know how i could convince u of anything.
but i agree that frenzy isnt the best option, if u are not taking doppel.
I am saying hoplite c1 can be better in different scenarios. C1 doppel is not the take it or be a scrub class, none is - if you know what you’re doing with your character.
The scenario with barb 3 is either +~ 600 physical attack with a high strength build ( my build ) meaning strong crits and a lot of base damage. Skill damage will be overcome with your physical damage I’m sure you know, all flat damage skills will share same fate. One way to go around it is incorporating multihits after barbarian’s buffs to prolong that, and adding some % bonuses.
Like spear lunge, like gae bulg’s +15% damage for 7.5 seconds at lvl 5. Doppel is one way to do it, but it is by far not the Only way to do it and the must way to do it. That’s all I’m saying. I agree DoV is awesome, but again if the stacks don’t carry on after a refresh and you go back to 1 stack it doesn’t make much sense for me since it’s not a constant.
heya laj, thanks for the replies. sorry for the gaps in mine, out and about alot recently. anyways, i saw your sword>pelt>barb3>hoplite1>dragoon build and it seems really interesting as well. im probably leaning on your build or the pelt>barb3>doppel2 variation… im pretty unsure of the stats atm, if its not too much trouble, do you mind advising me on stat progession for the two diff builds? i heard going barb means we should go full dex? or is high str better and use gear to compensate for crit? im pretty lost atm when it comes to this.
and also just additional info, cause im from SEA, i probably wont be looking into PvP much. mostly an end game fun to play PvE build. i was considering the mainstream dragoon build at first but heard its auto attack heavy and not as engaging to play as barb.
It depends on what you want to be doing really. With doppel 2 you would most likely want that dex to be on a goood level and then if needed - boost it further with guardian after you get your stacks. Just realize, that -100% defence on 10x dov stacks if thats what you’ll be aiming for will make you into a phone book folder. Its paper, but at least you’ll have lots of hp to somewhat cover it. It also depends on the armor you’re going to be wearing and what not, 3 plate pieces give you + 9400 or so hp at level 280 with the plate attribute maxxed. For 4 pieces of leather though you get tons of evasions - and more i you actually invested into dex. At the same time, if banshee veil is still available it will make you become ghost property ( your armor property is tied to the chest piece ) meaning all physical damage is reduced by 50%, but magical increased by 50%.
So you dont only look into base stats when making a build but also the bonuses from armor attributes.
As to stats themselves, try to find a synergy. If you’ll be going doppel 2 you have 2 sockets in your 2h sword, meaning you can have less critical rate from gems then a 1h + shield/dagger. So if you want to crit more you either become good friends with a krivis, or you invest more into dex to be self sufficient.
I will be going heavy on strength personally. You get +10% more str and int per rank, so at rank 7 we will be getting + 70% more strength from levelling and what not. If I will stop hitting, I will invest some levels into dex again to gain balance. If I will feel like my hp isnt enough I will invest into con, or try and get better armors ( useless if doppel 2
)
There isn’t one good way to build a character, find your own niche.
Thanks man for all your useful replies. I think I’ll probably be going my original build. As for the stats. I’m unsure as of now but I’ll experience the game first. My wife will be joining in with me as well and she’s looking for a support class to play and pair up with me. Any advice on which support class would fit well and is fun to play? I understand that this is the sword man forum but no harm trying my luck eh? Thanks in advance!
