I want to give my feedback and ideas about guild wars as a player who participated in two large scale wars.

The Guild Tower
There was no point of guild towers in guild war. You would destroy the enemy’s tower and nothing would happen.

Guild war should encourage hiding the tower location and possibly having negative consequences for having it destroyed during a war.

The guild tower could play a more important role in battle by giving benefits for having it up.

  • Increased HP and SP regeneration when nearby
  • Be an optional respawn point when you die in battle. This lets you respawn at the guild tower location or on the map respawn point.
  • Be a warp point like Squire’s tent but for guild members

Guild buffs
Instead of creating separate parties, buffs should apply to all nearby guild members.

Alliances and Mercenaries
Alliances: Forming an alliance with a guild would let other guilds share the same buffs.

Mercenaries: Mercenaries can be hired by Templars to help fight. They do not actually join the guild but are able to participate in the battle as a helping friend.

The hired mercenary would talk to the guild tower and get a special buff that makes them temporarily able to battle.

That was the guild war before, but IMC change the system to make 2 guilds must agree to declare war with each other. When it was introduced guilds can declare war irregardless of reasons alot of drama happened aswell as abuses.

Because of the assets inside guild hide out, even the old war mongering bloodthirsty guilds refuse to declare war with each other. There is too much to lose, thats why you dont see guilds declaring war with each other.

Guild war only died because of guild neutrality. There were plenty of wars going on before it was added that guilds could stay neutral.

Yeah and it was never actually any good. Just like now, it was a broken, unbalanced lagfest.
Just like the whole PvP thing actually. I still wonder what kind of mental disability you need to have to be able to enjoy this Tree of perma-CC / Tree of Instagib / Tree of RMT nonsense.

Your actual system on open maps just need small modifications to be Innovative and catch players:

You don’t need to make everyguild Guild be ready for war everytime from the start, or the bigger guilds will always hunt smaller guilds.
What you need to do is define a certain Level that will be the final line for guild neutrality.
Guilds always want to expand, so, if a Guild reach a certain LV the Guild Neutrality will be over and every other guild can attack it. This way new guilds can have a fair time to grow up enough to survive a war. What level? I dont know much about guild evolution, but need to be a Level where it can have lots of people.

YET, NOTHING MATTERS IF YOU DONT CONSIDER THIS:
The worst horrible thing about GxG in open maps: It is 24 hours per day for 7 days.
Even the bigger Guilds maybe dont have enough people online to defend it 24 hours per day. Its insane. Then with the towers distroyed the guilds will encounter each other only by random accident, or Combining a location with each other.

What you need to do is keep the same architecture, BUT, limit the time of the Day where the wars can occur, like 3 hours per day, in every place, the wars can occur. After that, PvP between guilds is disabled.

Another thing is implement some punishment for your tower’s guild be distroyed. Like, I dont know. lose some forgers, lose hammsters that are already created (it will hurt a lot). But, must be something that will not broke the Guild if it fails.

Make an NPC for guild upgrades instead of the tower. Give the Guild Master a guild tower item, which you place on a map. When placed it flags your entire guild for pvp on that map. Any guild member on the map while the tower is up gets pvp points over time.

Anyone else who gets within range of the tower or attacks it also gets flagged for pvp.

This would allow guilds to organize gvg on their own by picking a map, placing the tower and then trying to find each others tower and destroy it.
