Funny enough, there was a time on Dark Souls 2, dual wielding spears was ultra-OP
This is a very creative build, I like it and will try it out. Thanks OP!
From I can see, this is a rather solid build why hasnāt anyone done this before? I was theorizing on this for a while but I could not even find any guide builds like this. I am trying out this build and currently around lv176, my party loves me for my spear throw damage, donāt really know why people think it is underwhelming.
Because people are under the impression that finestra is the only thing that matters
Really? Thatās it? Thatās kinda dumb. I think I saw some post saying you could reach cap crit with gem and gear and go full str. Is it really true? If yes, finestra is kinda overated then.
Theoretically possible since gems have no level cap. Chances are thatās not going to happen though, and with our current level of gem roasting it will eventually lead to a DPS loss. Also the crit cap (100%) varies depending what youāre fighting. Finestra doesnāt just give crit rate either - it gives +3 AoE attack ratio
Huh, guess I will go str heavy for now cause it seems everyone say str is getting buffed. Do you might know if the buff is any significant?
Well I guess 3 AOE ratio is pretty good to pass, but I thought it requires only lv3 finestra. Why would people insist so much on max finestra while you could get a lot of crit from gear and gem.
Str buff is pretty insignificant. I prefer a heavy dex build because it fits my play style more. Evasion isnāt to be underestimated.
If you get finestra at all, chances are you are going to max it at whatever hoplite circle you go to. The crit rate at level 3 is only +30. Itās +150 at 15. So requiring level 3 finestra to get the attribute isnāt really an issue.
People insist on getting it because it is a great skill. If you use spears always there is really no reason not to get it. 150 crit rate is usually about a 22% boost.
Letās assume the current standard of level 6 green gems. Some people do 7 butā¦I think itās more reasonable to consider level 6.
Your base critical rate is 6 because you have 6 dex. Critical rate does not increase when you level up (it actually effectively goes down but that doesnāt really matter)
I will also only consider gear that can currently be obtained in iTOS.
Lolopanther leather (gloves+boots) = 42 crit rate
Rokas leather armor = 8 crit rate
There are no pants that give dex or critical rate.
Max petamion = 14 critical rate
2x sissel bracelet = 74 critical rate
3x enchnated hats = 42 critical rate (Note that this isnāt an optimal hat setup unless you have dual/triple enchnats)
3 level 6 green gems = 106 crit rate (2 on main weapon, 1 on off weapon)
Critical rate awakenings on venier+karacha dagger (also potentially not optimal, depends) = with max rolls, should be 20 (though tos mechanics can be a bit off in this department)
Karacha dagger itself = 11 crit rate
I think that covers everything, and this gives you a total of 323 critical rate without any points in dex. At level 280, thatās around 28% critical chance on an average mob with 120 critical resistance. 46% on something with no resistance. Max finestra boosts these to 51% and 69%.
Optimal STR:DEX ratios seem to call for ~40% crit rate.
Lv10 Finestra gives you 100 crit rate. In order to cover 100 crit rate, you will need many expensive gears as Proxied listed
Btw, guys. Do we have any spear build but on Dex instead of Str?
I would assume spear classes that donāt take hoplite, or only 1 circle of hoplite. So something like swordsman->peltasta->hoplite->cata 3->dragoon would benefit from a higher dex build. As far as meta builds go, not really. Iād say 75-100 on screen dex is important when fighting things closer to end game due to critical resistance (even if you take advantage of lv 17-18 finestra).
Oh, important note. Iām strictly talking about PvE. I donāt care about PvP in this game
I am currently at pelt 1 hop 3 and still pondering on going either this build or dop dragoon. What is your overall opinion on this build, can I do world boss on this build? the damage in the video seems pretty decent, but I donāt see any comparison of it to a dragoon.
And geez, I will probably never get that much silver to cover those gears.
Iāll start off by answering your second question first:
I assume you mean can you do world bosses and expect to get a cube. The answer is probably not with both builds you are considering. Itās possible (and doable) depending on what boss and what kind of other people/parties/how many show up and what kind of party you are in. Your dps alone will likely not be enough to obtain a cube if there are fletchers/elementalists present. That being said, if those classes arenāt present, you can probably get one just by showing up. This of course, would also be applicable to any other class.
For my opinion on both builds:
I hate hop 3 dop dragoon. It was my main character. It has way too many problems for me to be able to handle. I like to think I can play the game at least somewhat decently, but it was extremely frustrating.
Playing that build boiled down to these scenarios for me:
- Manually dodging, and a lot.
Well, this is cool and all, but it is an overall DPS loss if you canāt attack at the same time. There are some things you can do to counter this DPS loss (such as side stepping and serpentine/other instant cast skills) but itās still somewhat of a loss. - Blowing all your cooldowns and being confined to regular attacks.
Yes, even with all the fancy new doppel and dragoon skills, thereās a decent amount of downtime. - Getting knocked back.
The real killer of this class for me. Pain barrier has pretty bad uptime. Getting pushed back ever so slightly results in skills like cyclone and stabbing being cancelled. The boss moves? Stabbing is now out of range, etc. Getting knocked on your ass also sucks because thereās nothing you can do about it and it just leaves you vulnerable.
I also strongly dislike spear throw. It leaves you very vulnerable for a somewhat extended period of time. It becomes somewhat redundant in mobs when you reach dragoon because dragoon skills tended to handle group situations better for me.
I quit that character and play a sword 1->peltasta->barb 3->fencer 2. Itās better in every situation Iāve experienced so far.
Now on to the build in this thread:
I like it. itās unique. However, I wouldnāt personally play it and Iāll outline why. Note that most of this is personal opinion. Overall itās a good build.
- Spear throw is your main AoE. I canāt tolerate this off the bat.
- You have to swap weapons. This is extremely annoying and also potentially leaves you vulnerable because it can make your screen freeze. If they ever get around to fixing this, this point will immediately become invalid. I have no issue having to swap weapons. I just have an issue when it causes your client to freeze. (And no emptying my inventory doesnāt help)
- Stabbing is a potentially redundant skill when you have attaque composee. If your ping is good enough, composee is double the skill damage and hits almost as fast if not as fast. The massive stabbing damage presented in the thread is the result of stacking preparation, spear lunge, a pierce weak mob, and the stabbing skill itself. This means you give up your preparation cooldown for stabbing instead of sept etoilles. I donāt really like this, but itās pretty good DPS. Stabbing takes 6 total seconds to execute for 14 hits. Sept etoiles (which is around the same skill damage) takes 1.8 seconds and hits 7 times. This means in the time it takes to execute stabbing, you can sept etoiles and composee 7 more times. This totals to 21 lines of damage. Are these 21 lines stronger than preparation+spear lunge+stabbing? Probably not. But it also probably isnāt that far off.
- Stabbing can be cancelled.
Get knocked back, mob moves ever so slightly out of range, etc, your stabbing is now useless and goes in to cooldown. - (Compared to my build) Pouncing is getting an insane buff. I donāt really need to say more about this. Hereās a video
- Itās more expensive than the āmeta fencerā build. You absolutely need to attribute stabbing and probably spear throw. Barbarian skills I donāt really see much of a point in attributing. Except maybe pouncing after that buff
Well that whole list wouldnāt be very fair if I didnāt outline why I liked it as well.
-
You save rapier durability. Rapiers have piss poor durability. If you can switch to spear whenever you want to or need to, thatās really helpful.
-
Itās better than the meta fencer build(s) if you have bad (>100ms?) ping.
-
You get to show how people are wrong about calling a build like this bad.
-
Stabbing and pierce benefit from the rapier mastery: aggression attribute. Thus they get +15% damage as long as you are using a rapier and not using a shield. This is close to having two handed spear mastery: big game hunter except it works for everything and not just large enemies/bosses.
Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. Think I am gonna give it a try since I am already at hoplite 3. Hopefully it is better than dragoon and worth it.
Oh well, let just forget it. Spear Swordies are gonna be in the same situation as SVD Knight in RO. Except SVD LK are much better than current TOS Swordie
Iāve never played RO so
ĀÆ\(ć)/ĀÆ
youāll probably find this annoying if you get lancers with spears as a rank 8 optionā¦ kekek.
Well, Much HP, many damage, wow
*Insert Doge meme
Lunge (25% uptime buff - 120% evasion for 4 seconds)
Evasion cap in value has no limit
effective cap is somewhere around 1100-1300
