Is there any way to make it work with skills where you need to hold down the key i.e. cross guard? I see that it switches the weapon on the down keypress and then uses the skill on the up keypress when you use this method, but I couldnt find a way to make it work when you are required to hold the key down

No. You just gotta time your cross guard I guess. And also ^ that file is meant to be played around. Itās not even as intrusive as addons. Itās that file where you want to set different hotkeys in game. Think of it just like changing resolution using a file in the folder instead of doing it in game.
Thank you for your input but I donāt think meta speaks for efficiency as everyone is still experimenting builds even on kTos. I donāt speak for everyone else but I am keen to keeping an open mind and learn from others as much as I can and wish to share my fun so other might have the chance to enjoy it too.

DPS wise, your build will always be better than meta Fencers, whom often go High Dex instead of Str.
Plus, spears are vastly superior to rapiers. I believe itās better to continue utilize spears for higher efficiency than switching to rapiers.

Not a fair comparison. The gear / character setup is vastly different. The meta build person could have played better and does not have a venier and likely has little to no attributes given the damage output.
Yeah i thought that aswell, OP forgot to point a few things out aside from what youāve already mentioned:
- The lvl 200 boss Manticen is a Leather-type monster meaning it takes 50% more damage from Pierce-type attacks, therefore Hopliteās skills will naturally deal more damage.
- Comparing Barbarian and Hoplite in an 1v1 boss scenario isnāt fair, simply because Barbarian doesnāt deal good single target damage. Barbarian is favored in most Fencerās builds because of the high AoE attack ratio in their skills, something Fencers are cvery lackluster at. Comparing Hoplite vs Highlander would be more adequate, would still need to test on a different boss tho.

- spear throw complements fencerās lack of aoe. I donāt think my build could out dps a meta build on a greater pack of mobs in burst but could potentially deal more damage over time and hold aggro in a greater area.
For the first point, fencers main attacking skill assuming you go fencer 2 is pierce (composse). Sept is also pierce. For the second, Iāve found barbarians 1v1 to be just fine (for bossing) given pouncing. Especially when we get the update. I donāt use barbarian for AoE except for seism (and pouncing which also falls under 1v1)

But this also yknow assumes we ever get anything good from KR. The cooldown has also been reduced by another like 20 seconds since that video was posted.
Barb 2 has like 3 AOE skills though.

Hoplite is pure pve build. The only reason to swap to rapier only when ur main skill in cd. When u compare, u should compare same stat build also. High dex vs high str has big difference base damage.

- I tried but couldnāt really find any heavy str build fencer as meta dictates it to be heavy dex.
I donāt disagree, weapon swapping isnāt comfortable for everyone and it causes freezes due to server side cache issue. Re-logging and bind swap weap to a more comfortable key alleviate the freeze a little bit but in general, itās still a pain.
Barb 2 and 3 has impeccable aoe and utility and pouncing is getting buffed. The barb skills all synergize so well to dish out ton of aoe dmg in a very short time, thatās why barb 3 fencer 2 is current meta. I have no disagreement there neither. As I was saying at the end of the guide, this build isnāt for everyone but only for the ones who want to try something new and in personally experience it is slightly more viable comparing to other non-meta fencer builds.
I know, i already read it. Not only this build, many build will be viable if weapon swap has been fix.
I truly couldnāt agree more. It pains me how there is no posts regarding a fix / imc didnāt seem to pay much attention to fix the vanilla game first. I can probably make a post to raise their attention on the weapon swap issue and in hope the fix could enable more viable builds and make the game more enjoyable to play.
Yup, your build is a niche build, aka not for everyone. Plus, itās still an experimental build, thatās why we need a discussion.
I favor a spear more than rapier in your build. So please ignore what I said about weapon choice in my future posts
i think all fencer builds are pretty niche, since there arenāt other class much like them. i wonder if you could do something similar using pelt/high3 for armour break instead of spears lunge.

It really is viable to go /highland3/corsair/fencer2, itās actually a meta build on kr as they have 0 cd skyliner. Just cross guard a bit gimmicky to pull off. Otherwise itās very op.
