Guide to Fencer / Doppel / Bullet Marker [PVE]

How does SwordC3 Restrain synergize with Fencer?
Was thinking of trying out
SwordC3>Pelt>Cor>Fencer>FencerC2/Shinobi

Fencers 0CD skill spam makes it kinda interesting to see constant stun CCs

This is for PvE only thou

It works but I’d rather go barb if it’s pve. Restrain at Level 10 doesn’t have the highest uptime still, and with that you lose out on barb bursts or highlander bursts. Restrain stuns don’t last long too, but it’s good for slowing with the attribute for pvp

This… Restrain is a msut if ur going for pvp and u have fast attk skills…
Pve u’ll majorly lose out if u got for swordsman 3

i dont think restrain is good for anything that dont have very good aoe/range multihit. fencer has like very thin skill so it pretty much CC enemies first before it uses its main skill. like for example mine does is first use bash so i can guarantee a melee iron hook then burst them down with coquille > hexen > sept. or if some other fencer C2 with barb they pretty much use seism first for a stun then preparation > seism again or helm chopper > sept. restrain i think is only good if you have good aoe and multihit to utilize it, like doppel cyclone and cataphract rush. else like fencer, just use skill that has CC since it is unlikely fencer skill will hit without CCing them first.

I’m wondering about doing a build where I swap Barb2 for Hop2 to get Finestra, Spear Lunge, and Stabbing. Is Barb just that much better than Hop that there’s no real benefit to doing this?

If the build would work, what would my split between STR and DEX be? Does having Finestra for +100 crit lower the amount of DEX I would want?

weapon switching is kinda bad in the game, I don’t recommend switching too much because of finestra.

I guess that pretty much kills it then if even swapping for Spear Lunge alone would be too annoying. Only benefit of Hop2 would be Stabbing and Pierce at that point. Not to mention that Barbs could end up getting buffed too.

Wish weapon swapping was smoother in this game. Maybe one day.

I haven’t switched much but I think using quick slot would be better. I have been using it instead of normal weapon switch. Old RO way work better

not just that, the weapon switching as a whole. you lose finestra buff the moment you switch and it’s back on cooldown.

If finestra buff stays but doesn’t work while you have rapier on, it would be much better

Does switching spears work? Cause I see spear is required to use the skill, I wonder if the buff remains after switching

buff remains if you switch to a compatible weapon, ex finestra on spear to finestra on 2h spear

you can test it with swashbuckling, you lose the hp buff and max aggro count when you switch to a 2H sword, but it stays when you switch 1h+daggger to 1h+shield or vice versa

So the description on TOSbase is precise and informative. A skill have its required stances to be used

Okay so after all the Peltasta arguments around I have decided to put my C2 Fencer in a corner for a while in the lodge and reroll a new build for her: Sw > Pelt > High C2 > Corsair (will eventually get to Fencer C2 on this char as well).

Truth be told, and PLEASE believe me when I say this isnt me raging against the trend or meta, I did not find Peltasta that much of a big deal so far. Dont get me wrong, my rerolled swordsman is only on her 140’s where nothing is particularly a threat. So my only means to be in “danger” are Merc missions.

Basically, while being able to get +1/4 max hp is sexy, it requires constant Swash buckling. This is all fine until you get another Swordsman on your team suposedly more capable of tanking than you (say Pelt 2, Rod 2 for instance). Youll basically be screwing his own swash. Obviously if someones already tanking theres no need for those 25% hp whatsoever, but you get the idea here. As far as dungeons go, a constant swashing rather than a planned one will get you killed against a few mobs even in low levels such as 130. This and the fact you need potions (which is perfectly fine given their prices) or a cleric to heal that extra HP back. “But Lis, duh, you only need to swash, heal and tank right after!” True, just be careful when rebuffing that 30 seconds hp boost and avoing aggroing too much aroudn you.

Secondly, Guardian. Well, it is a % so the further one gets into the game the more valuable it gets. Maybe. So far it has done clsoe to no difference but again, low leveled alt char. I would say this is actually the least important feature when picking pelt if it continues to offer such a neglectable difference. Provided you have around 800-1000 base evasion at level cap (since most players use full plate or Plate + utility gloves) im still wondering how useful those 160-180 evasion will be later on when the cap is raised. Not sure if the Evasion on boots will scale hard enough for it to compensate. This is aggravated by the fact that boss monsters will have higher stat values than trash mobs. So an actual dodge by running out of its aoe will always be safer at the cost of a lower DPS (in case you take the risk and hope for a dodge to proc). Still sexy on paper.

Thing is, its either Pelt, Sw2, or Highlander. Picking High c1 only seems a waste since crossguard isnt even that strong for dex characters at level 5. No skyliner nor crosscut either. Sw2 is exclusively for 5 secs on pain barrier and a 12 seconds slowdown on a 20% chance; in other words, pvp mostly. This leaves us with Pelt for Swashbuckling and the ocasional Guard alone.

Next is Highlander in case you plan on taking it. I was VERY disappointed by Crown. -15 or so Int and Spr at maxed attribute and level 10 makes NO difference whatsoever in most scenarios. Unless im missing something, i would not take this skill for now.

Even thought of creating a 3rd swordsman for Sw > Pelt > Barb 2 > Cor 2 > Fencer 2 but honestly after having played Barb 3 for quite a while i find Barb 2 a complete waste unless you are that desperate for Seism and two stuns OR youre facing the problem ill discuss below*. This whole idea came up after noticing that *80% of the mobs we encounter currently (exageration) are either Plant or Undead, who cannot be bled and thus making skyliner not so good, where most trash mobs can be stunned and cleaved with barbarian.
(my opinion might change completely if we ever get the 50% slash debuff from cleave)

In short, I wouldnt bother much about making a PERFECT decision at all for now. Peltasta is possibly your best option for defensive measures if you are willing to go into that circle for 2 skills and 2 skill only. I also would not instantly consider it a must, its far from a must. In my honest opinion what sells that circle is the 25% hp and nothing else. Sure it is useful to aggro mobs harder and have a little bit extra evasion at the cost of a little bit extra damage but i just wouldnt rely on it entirely. Im sure weapon swap will be by far the most powerful in our arsenal later on and pelt isnt exactly what i would call a swap friendly circle. Go ahead and rage at this wall of text if you so desire. Remember its just some feedback from a casual player.

I’ve said this on other threads. Pelt 2 mainly because other contenders pve wise are crap. HL is just better for rank 2 instead of sword 2, which a lot of people pick anyway.

Even for offensive matters, Sword 2’s gungho level 10 and concentrate 10 won’t help you as much. Having evasion allows you to do more since you can face tank and trade hits during your long animation skills like Sept Etoiles, or having to spam Composee without moving.

Guardian is really needed if you want to reach evasion cap. Sword 2 IMO only offers pain barrier outside of restrain which you rarely use on pve anyway(restrain).

so you pretty much answered yourself, pelt 2 because other choices aren’t good

You pick pelt for 2 skills. You pick sword 2 for what, I’ve asked around they said gungho and concentrate lv 10, lol.

This is similar to monster hunter. Having defensive skills/tools means you could go more on the offensive because of it. Example: High grade earplugs.

And if you’re out of soloing, Peltasta becomes a must. Everyone shouts LF Pelt/Tank, not LF swordsman. Sometimes they do, but rarely. (the reason why "no one needs you if you are not peltasta thread exists)

So consider it a bonus, you now get Guardian and can get into parties anytime you feel like it.

also as much as I love testing more swordsman builds, I’m losing my patience with the game in general. Dota is slowly taking me back with all these patch notes.

Pelt just has abilities and attributes that remain relevant. SW2 and HL don’t. Unless you are going Sw3 or HL3, there’s no point in taking anything else, because the alternatives are just not that good.

Pelt is still the best rank 2 if you plan to survive and fight another day. Extra defense with good scaling till late game is always needed.

Now that I’m still lv70 (cause my Internet is sh!tty atm so I have to refrain from playing much). My most memorable lv50 dungeon queue was with 1 3k HP Diev, 2 Wizs and 1 Archers. Needless to say, the DPS in my team were glass cannons as nobody had over 2k HP. So I tanked the whole thing, thanks to High Dex and a Meteor shield. Block and Dodge was all over my character. The Wiz 3 was dying at least 2 times when she jumped into the horde to spam Energy Bolt. I survived the whole ordeal, a bit thanks to the Diev.

IMO, Pelt is one of the best subclass in the swordman tree even if only 2 skills matter. Remember, the class attributes also boost block and defense by quite a high amount, please invest in these attributes ASAP

I really love fencer concept and skills,

it’s just sad that spear users get all the benefits:

  • attributes which increase AoE ratio, add bleeding chance

  • huge crit buff with 100% uptime (fencers evasion buff is not close to that kind of uptime)

  • better range

  • pierce debuff on overheat - greatly boosts pierce damage for its 5-6s duration (compared to 30s cooldown preparation which only boosts your next attack)

  • tons of syngeries for specific class picks for tons of damage

  • not to mention. whats the point in rapiers having 20 durability compared to 40 of other weapons… if rapiers are gonna fragile, they should at least have some worthwhile advantage to other weapons… -- if anything, cos spears have such op attributes and buffs, spears should have 20 durability --

dont know what the devs are thinking cos all the good buffs and attributes are in the hoplite class lol.

non-spear users are really generally inferior at the moment.

I really wish fencer would have a spear lunge-kinda debuff in its skill tree :x

Nevertheless, i think fencers are really enjoyable, lets cross our fingers for an awesomely amazing C3

you forgot rapier durability! that was the first thing that annoyed me tbh. I mean I would understand if rapiers are OP but not a chance

added! xD /20cjarsrersesrs

we need some Fiora (league of legends) love for our fencers in ToS! xD

I wish we have a good blocking(parrying skill) like fiora’s parry xD it can block everything and anything including CC provided u get the timing right! xD
