Thaumaturge: Friend’s Guide to World Bossing
Introduction
This is a guide for using a Thaumaturge as a DPS / Carry character at World Bosses. Since the boss debuff hit, there really is no need for me to hold back on this information any longer. It is my hope some players in the SEA or SA servers may benefit from this as Klaipeda no longer has any world bossing competition.
The development and use of this strategy has caused many players on my server to hate me, harass me, and the Crimson guild to nickname me “Satan”. Beware what you do with this information.
This general strategy relies on the use of Reversi. Reversi is a spell available at Thaumaturge C2, and is the main skill used to DPS. Using this skill, it is very possible to enter the top DPS ranks from a downed world boss and cube.
Note: This guide is not for Demon Lords.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
- High chance to cube if boss is **moderately to heavily contested **(25/100 Map population or higher)
- Ability to cube while arriving as late as 30% HP
- Cheap attribute/gear cost compared to Fletchers/WizEles
- Can also pivot to support and buff party members with high damage buffs
- Denies damage done by other ground spell based classes
Weaknesses
- Low damage potential when there are a lower amounts of players
- Competition with other Thaumaturges makes it tougher to cube
- Possible to disrupt other DPS in party (Fletchers, WizEles)
General Strategy
The general strategy is to wait for ground spells to be deployed by other characters before using Reversi. Try to maximize the amount of skills taken by Reversi by waiting for others. There is usually a period amount of time before a significant amount of skills appear on the floor.
When in doubt, use Reversi at 90%, 60%, and 30%.
While killing bosses as a Thaumaturge, you can afford to be late to the boss (I can cube frequently when arriving at a 50% HP Boss). No other class has as much catch-up DPS potential as a Thaumaturge.
Reversi
- Reversi takes ALL the ground skills deployed, friendly, neutral, or opposing, and converts it to your own.
- Skills taken by Reversi scales its damage to the Lv1 version of the skill, convert its damage to Magic, and scales off your magic attack.
- The number of hits of the original skill casted is maintained.
- Focus on upping your magic attack for more damage.
In order of priority, the list of ground spells to look out for while using Reversi are:
- Frost Cloud
- Pole of Agony
- Hail, Flame Ground, Throw Gu Pot
- Everything else (Broom Trap, Zaibas, Magic Arrow, Cure)
Note: Carnivory damage may not be taken by Reversi.
Most skills have a distinct sound effect when casted. Try to learn these, especially if you are using the War Mode Add-on to reduce lag.
On Chronomancers: Pass is not generally needed if the boss is downed extremely quickly. Pass is more helpful on bosses that take over a minute to kill.
On playing against other Thaumaturges: If the metagame is developed in the server, some Thaumaturges will try to “juke” you by faking their Reversi cast by jumping and cancelling it. Try to watch for this and listen to the actual second part of the cast. You can tell if your skills are stolen if your damage numbers disappear.
Dullahan
The easiest boss to cube for a Thaumaturge. This boss is where I first started cubing. This boss is magic weak (+50% dmg). Many players will set up their skills before the boss actually spawns. Wait until the initial deployment of players skills before starting your first Reversi.
Since this boss spawns more frequently than others, try using this boss to practice. You’ll most likely get a card even if you get it, so it’s not really much to lose.
Don’t drop your Sacrament by accidently attacking the white crystal on the map.
Cerberus
The second easiest boss to cube. It’s ice weak, so Ice Walls, stolen Frost Clouds and Hails do extra damage.
Starving Ellaganos
A hard boss to cube if it jumps around a lot. Its movement can be reduced by ice walling through the boss.
Thaumaturge Build Paths
In this section, I will be listing more significant classes that players make take alongside Thaumaturge to help increase the chances of cubing.
Cryo3
- Ice Wall has high damage potential in an INT build with buffs
- Ice Wall shards count as the Ice Wall Owner’s damage, no matter who actually hit the wall
- Ice Wall disrupts other players
- Other players can help proc using Psychic Pressure, Rush, Cyclone, etc.
Wiz3
- Quick Cast increases the damage of Reversi by 50%
CryoKino
- Good standalone damage with the Ice Wall PP combo
- Beware of other people using Joint Penalty, Counterspell, or destroying your Ice Wall
RC
- Rune of Ice triples Ice Wall damage
- Rune of Giants gives +20 movement speed, allowing you to get to the boss faster
- Great paired with any CryoKino to increase solo damage output
Warlock
- Great for standalone extra damage with Pole of Agony, Dark Theurge
- Beware Pole of Agony can be taken by other Thaumaturges
Necromancer2
- Great for standalone damage with Flesh Cannon
Weapons
Superior Corona Rod (267 Magic Damage base)
- My all-purpose weapon of choice
Catacombs Blade (461 damage on Plate)
- Great on Plate Bosses (Canceril, Mineloader)
- I use this weapon instead of a Superior Corona Rod because my rod sucks
- Weapon Maintenance does not help with Reversi damage
Karacha Dagger
- Main offhand weapon
Thanks
- Jace of Klaipeda for bringing me around to World Boss when no one else did
