[Guide] Mage Builds General Discussion šŸ’„

No, less hit counts + high cooldown will leave you lot of downtime. You are not dealing enough average damage over time.

A good PvE is good average damage for multiple monsters over time.

So, basically if you wanna be a good Wizz DPS you HAVE to go wizz 3 > elementalist?

No.
It MIGHT be true that wiz3 ele3 is the best dps, but to be good dps? Go high INT and take non-support classes and you’ll be fine no matter what. Wizard is probably the most balanced class in that regard.

what would you suggest me?
Wiz 3 > Cryo > Kino > Rune Caster can be good?

Almost rank 7 now but i’m still not sure which to go next for my wiz 3 - psy 3 build. I’m leaning toward featherfoot for the debuffs and hp sucking but i don’t know if all of those debuffs work on bosses.

  • Curse
  • Decay
  • Bleeding

Wow, you are brave. I gave up after Wiz C3 > Psy C1, changing my build drastically now.

Magic Missile is great for grinding, but it is utter trash on dungs w/o Linker.

I honestly couldnt justify chosing Wiz C3 anymore. Game is filled with knock up/down/back compared to betas, so Sure Spell hardly pays off its Rank.

Quick Cast as well. No casting skills, would be used just for the attribute. But you will only have around 5 damaging skills worth anything at Rank 7… and we don’t know how many ranks we will get in the future (once IMC said they might go with just 8 ranks and hide all other classes).

Well, i am not saying you are wrong in doing that build, just that it didnt work for me and ppl shouldn’t really base themselves on what is ā€œmetaā€, cause i regreted not getting Pyro which i knew i liked (even with his flaws).

You have to be patient, this build is one of the best one for questing/grinding/dungeon for me actually XD. Like ele, psy need to reach C2,3 to be effective.

My old vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5TAAJgoLPI (all crappy/quest gears and low level attributes)

I dunno what other class can cc + killing a whole pack of elite mobs as effective as this :D.
Its not good at boss fights though (like most other wizs), that’s why i’m thinking which to go at rank 7 to improve this.

Well, my problem was with Wiz circles, not Psy!

I love Psy~

Even tho i am giving up on Psy c2 and c3 for my new build, lol. But it should be for the greater good (hopefully).

What about this?

@lyhonlam69 Would the build still be fun/ok without psy c3? From what I’ve seen from videos so far, I like the Psy skills more than Pyro/Cryo/Ele and I’m thinking about a Wiz3/Psy2/Alch2 build. Mostly for solo play and the odd random dungeon/mission here and there.

Could you also please talk a bit about which wiz skills I should take and how many points in each? I mean, Surespell, Quickcast and Magic Missile seem to be the nobrainers, but I’m unsure about the others. Should I max Energy Bolt and/or Reflect Shield? Are Lethargy and Sleep useful for solo play?

If you go alchemist i think pyro/cryo - psy 3 would be better though, wiz 3 doesn’t benefit alch at all. And you won’t want to skip Gravity Pole and Raise - they are really really great!.

If you still wanna go wiz 3 then just max the following: Surespell, Quickcast, Magic Missile, Sleep (not really needed for solo but very useful in dungeon) and 1 point lethargy for the +100% strike dmg attribute. The rest you can put to Energy bolt for quick-tap casting + knock back or Reflect shield to prevent knockback/knockdown at early levels (i choose energy bolt).

Sleep is pretty amazing, but you can safely leave it at a lower level.
I personally put 3 points in Lethargy so I can add to the attribute later. The skill is actually fairly effective, many monsters and most bosses use skills that are attack * (some multiplier), making lethargy’s flat value much more powerful than it looks. Plus the whole +100% strike damage is real nice in cleric groups.
Surespell isn’t an auto-pick, depending on your build. If you can’t have many charging or channeled spells (A pyro2thuam for example) you won’t find much use for it. Elementalists and Psychokinos will use it to great effect.

Energy bolt and earthquake are kinda terrible skills. Energy bolt should be left at 1, or raised to 7 where the charge is so fast you can tap cast it. Earthquake should be left at 1.

My Swash Buckling friend can appreciate lv15 Sleep. He can pull whole room and doesn’t have to just stand there and block. Sometimes it’s about making it more fun for others.

So guys~ I have got a question. Ive did some digging and couldnt come up with any valid information. So basically I need to know if wiz3’s quick cast attribute gives +50%matk on skills or straight up +50% dmg to skills
(testing the viability of full con + quick cast vs mix int/con + quick cast)

If it does indeed give 50% skill damage then INT would be somewhat irrelavant. However it scales with matk then for it to be fully effective, one would have to go for a mix with int and con =D

Thanks in advance!~

@lyhonlam69 @dmhamilt Thanks for all the details! :grinning:
Well, maybe I’ll scrap that Alch idea or leave it at c1 for now so I can take Psy c3. If SP pots are dirt cheap already when I reach rank 6, there’s no need to take Alch for me anyways. ^^

Its +50% to the end of any magic damage calcualtion. So (base magic attack + skill)*1.5

Thanks mate~ Appreciate it

I have a question about linker.
The skill ā€œmagic missileā€ casts a spell that hits the target and then multiply for more targets… If I link 5 monsters and use this attack, it will rebound to more targets or only for the same targets with more damage?

Because im thinking to do wiz3 > ele1 > link2

I think if you want to go the Build-An-Elementalist Workshop route, you don’t need to take it yourself. You could go wiz2 cryo1 ele1 link2 since you can’t share the 50% damage bonus from quick cast as I understand it.

Going wiz3ele3 for the first character, but I’m now working on more utility based characters for PvP and later game. I’ve got a cryo and I just don’t know where to take her :frowning:
