##Introduction
Hello! My name is Bonjin and I’ve been an avid MMORPG player for well over 1.5 Decade - I have always floated towards tanky, shield-based characters in just about every game I have enjoyed so far - And so my choice of class was easily made when I decided to start playing Tree of Savior.
I have clocked 255 Hours on the game so far, The vast majority of which have been spent on my C3 Peltasta
Why play a C3 Peltasta?
The C3 Peltasta is incredibly fun to play - It is capable of rounding up large amounts of monsters with the push of a button thanks to the amazing Swash Buckling skill.
The C3 Peltasta can withstand incredible amounts of damage while setting the opponent up for powerfull retaliations thanks to the amazing Butterfly & Umbo Blow abilities.
The C3 Peltasta can completely annihilate an opponents physical defense with the Umbo Thrust - Leaving them very vulnerable to physical attacks, Especially multi-hit attacks such as Butterfly.
##Pros & Cons
Pros
- A fun, Skill intensive play-style once you reach that 3rd Circle
- Groups will LOVE you
- Capable of bunching up an entire field/room full of monsters with the push of a button
- Very tanky!
- A grinding machine if the map isn’t too crowded
Cons
- Slow, heavily auto attack based game-play until you reach Peltasta C3
- Weak to magic (Like pretty much every Swordman it seems)
- Reliant on equipment
- Frequent repairs
- SP intensive
- Capable of committing suicide if you are not aware of your surroundings - Or just crazy
- Has a tendency to attract kill stealing
- Many skills have some-form of wind up, Causing them to be interruptable by monsters with mini-stuns or knock-backs. (Spoiler: There’s A LOT of these monsters) Clever use of Pain Barrier highly suggested
##Skill explanations
Use the bump of your shield to attack enemies. Deals additional damage to enemies staggered by a block.
The most interesting part of this ability is the “Deals additional damage to enemies staggered by a block” part… Just how much damage does it do?
In my experience it deals one additional hit for 1.5x the skills damage. Effectively dealing approximately 250% Damage.
These hits were made on targets without strike weakness & Without the Umbo Thrust debuff
(Please note that depending on your Physical damage decided by your Str/Equipment your damage might differ)
912 Basic Hit
1346 Bonus damage
1292 Basic Hit
1948 Bonus Damage
#Rim Blow Feedback wanted
Use the edge of your shield to attack enemies. Inflicts additional damage on both petrified and frozen enemies.
This appears to be a powerful positioning tool - It pushes everything it hits back a small distance when using it, It is also strongly suggested that you get this to level 6 so you can use it as an effective damage source during High Guard.
Hit your shield to provoke nearby enemies making them pursue you.
I cannot stress how amazing this skill is - Both solo and in a group!
This ability will be your most powerful grinding tool - It allows you to bunch up all the monsters in an area bigger than you might think, The range of this skill seems to greatly exceed the borders of your screen - I quite often find monsters still wondering towards me from outside my vision range while I am already fighting a massive zerg.
It does have a few downsides and/or bugs which I would like to adres though
Downsides
- If you do not use this skill responsibly you might get yourself, and possibly your entire group killed
- You will be taking a whole bunch of hits - Putting strain on your equipment - causing frequent repairs
- Other players might consider you greedy when you are pulling entire fields/rooms
Possibly bugs
- Sometimes monsters at increased range that get hit with this skill might not aggro at all unless you step in a bit closer.
- The maximum range of this ability seems to be longer than the maximum range a monster will chase you - Causing them to reset and slowly wobble back to their positions.
- It appears to be affecting other players, At least the weak-willed ones - It causes them to flock onto your position and start flailing wildly when you use it.
Increases your defense while decreasing your attack. Cannot be used with Gung Ho.
Please put ONE points, and ONE point only in this ability!
This skill is one big disappointment - it was such an AMAZING name, Yet it is so weak. For 15 skill points you could get 35 Physical defense at the cost of a whopping 63 Physical attack.
Its attribute however, is amazing.
I personally love keeping this ability up on myself at all times - Not for the Physical defense, But for the 18% Evasion attribute.
A have not confirmed this - But a dodged ability might not reduce durability - If this is the case then this ability might actually save you a lot of silver in the long run.
Please not that this does not mean a flat-out 18% Dodge chance, but it instead increases your Evasion Rating by 18% - The more evasion you have, The more powerful this attribute becomes.
Example
A level 125 Rank 4 Swordman with 66 Dexterity without any equipment will have 191 Evasion.
(191 : 100) x 118 = 225 Evasion - A bonus of 34 Evasion.
A level 125 Rank 4 Swordman with 100 Dexterity without any equipment will have 225 Evasion.
(225 : 100) x 118 = 265 Evasion - A bonus of 40 Evasion.
I would say this could be incredibly powerful on evasion based builds/classes - Such as the Fencer.
###Shield Lob Feedback Wanted
Attack an enemy by throwing your shield. Your shield drops on the targeted area, and your physical defense decreases based on the value of the equipment. The shield may be picked up or it’ll automatically return to your inventory after a certain time. The decreased physical defense will return back to normal once your shield is back in the inventory.
Unfortunately this skill is bad, I love the idea behind it - But it just has so many downsides to it.
First of all, the damage is bad - Its a single hit with a a maximum damage increase of 873 at the maximum level. Sure, its AoE attack ratio can be increased by 3 with its attributes - But its damage is still way to low.
Second of all, Its cooldown is a whopping 54 Seconds, without overcharge.
Third of all, The animation is sluggish beyond hell - You’ll make a little throwing animation - Then your shield remains glue’d to your fingers for another half of a second, then it remembers it is supposed to fly off and it just hops away to where ever you wanted it to go.
No really, It quite literally bounces upwards from your hands and comes falling down where ever you aimed it.
Atleast you can still use all of your skills even if you have yet to pick up your shield after using this skill - So I guess it’s got that going for it…
Not even worth a single point.
Change to active stance using shield in front. Block and increases while attack and critical decrease.
This ability can be used for two things - A defensive cooldown, increasing your Block value by quite a bit (Depends on skill level). As well as improving your Physical Defense by up to 50 if you opt to put at least 3 points into this skill.
And to improve the damage of your Umbo Blow/Rim Blow skills to 330%. (Max attributes)
Please do note that the damage you will deal is not even near 330% at this point - Mainly because it reduces your Physical Attack by a whopping 50%!
As you could see in the pictures included with my Umbo Blow description at level 102 it seemed to increase the damage of my Umbo Blow by approximately 50% - A very disappointing result.
I strongly advise against using this ability as an offensive cooldown - but instead use it as a defensive cooldown and just see the bonus damage to Umbo Blow/Rim Blow as a nice little bonus.
Use your shield and sword to attack enemies with continuous attacks.
The moment I first used this skill I instantly fell in love with it - It deals 3 powerful hits in rapid succession of one another. I can not confirm this yet, But I believe that each separate hit gets the benefits from your Physical Attack. This ability is by FAR the hardest hitting ability in the Peltasta Arsenal.
Currently the skill is classified as [Physical] - [Strike] - [Slash]
However It seems that all 3 Hits deal Strike Damage - I have tested and confirmed this very frequently… VERY… FREQUENTLY
One of the amazing things about this skill is that should the first or second hits kill a few of the targets, The follow up hits will pick up new targets.
This ability is extremely powerful when fighting 6+ mobs at the same time (Which you should always be doing) But it still deals very, very respectable damage even against a single target.
The only downside to this skill is that it has to bypass the opponents physical defense with every strike - However we can easily solve that little issue by comboing this ability up with…
Heavily strike enemies using the spikes on your shield. Enemies struck by the skill may temporarily lose the effects from their armors.
This skill is amazing - It appears to completely strip the target of its Physical defense, However I have yet to actually confirm this on a player. Its proc chance seems to be 100% - Although the effect can be resisted.
The description is interesting, I quote “may temporarily lose the effects from their armors.” What if this ability completely removes any armor, stats & effects applied by an opponents armor - Or is intended to do so. It could be an extremely powerful weapon against targets with equipment such as Banshee Veil.
I will do a lot more research into this ability in the future.
###Langort
Block and strike simultaneously by using both a sword and a shield.
Another powerful offensive skill - This skill deals Pierce Damage.
Just like Butterfly it actually hits 3 times, causing it to benefit from your Physical damage 3 times, while having to bypass the opponents Physical defense 3 times aswell.
I have found this skill to be extremely potent against monsters weak to pierce damage - Such as Drakes.
I do however feel that just 1 point spent in this ability is more than enough, As it only gains 121 Attack at the cost of a whopping 4 skill points.
I have yet to figure out the secondary effect myself, However I would like to quote Draknuss’ Full Tank Peltasta C3 Guide Untill I can verify it for myself. If you would like me to remove the quote, Just ask!
##Skill Builds
First of all - I would like to suggest everyone that is going Peltasta C3 to save up at the very least 7 skill points to use the moment you complete your C3 Quest - Use the 7 points you had stored up on: Butterfly 5/5, Umbo Thrust 1/5 and Langort 1/5 - This will make the build so much more enjoyable to play.
I personally saved up 11 points, Which netted me Butterfly, 5/5 Umbo Thrust 5/5 & Langort 1/5
###This is the build that I personally use - The Bruiser.
This Build goes along with my 3Con/2Str/1Dex - Stat build. I made this spec so that I could (Hopefully) Participate in all in-game activities - Both PvE & PvP - Solo & Group content.
A hybrid between defense & offensive - Some dex for more accuracy & avoidance (Nice with Guardian’s Attribute for 18% Avoidance)
So far I have been critting a fair bit - I’d say about 10-15% chance depending on the opponent.
This build contains the hard-hitting Butterfly, Umbo Thrust & Umbo Blow - Paired up with the ever praised Swash Buckling!
1 Point in Thrust To use as a filler on Pierce vulnerable mobs.
It allows me to bunch up monsters during Group play - While still allowing me to hold my own when I am playing Solo.
##Stat Builds
###The Bruiser - 3 Con/2 Str/1 Dex
This is the build I use myself - It has made leveling so far an absolute breeze. I would like to add though, that I cannot promise this build’s performance at the higher levels, It will have substantially less health & block than the Full Con build - Essentially trading in its Group Tanking effectiveness for Solo Offense effectiveness.
As of level 120 I am still barely getting dented though - even by casters, I have done the 115 Dungeon without healers on several occasions now - and I have yet to die
… Scrap that, I got one shot by that Fire Wave thingie of the final boss, On my first run…
Suggested for the ‘Lone Wolf’ players, Like myself.
I will update the effectiveness of this build as I reach higher levels.
As told by Cathexis (Known for her Swordman Encyclopedia)
###The Tank - Con/Con/Con… Did I mention Con?
This build has been tried & proven to work at all levels - But might be painfull to play with when you are on your own.
#Notable Attributes
##Must haves:
Turn your bash into a crowd control skill - This is awesome for keeping high damage targets, such as casters, under control.
GREATLY increases your threat/enmity/aggro generation.
Get this as high as you can afford it - Butterfly will be your strongest ability by far, and this only improves up on it.
This attribute allows you to manually block with the push of a button
Most of the time you will block all the physical damage dealt to you when you manually block - But occasional hits could still get through. This attribute will be strong against targets with high Block Penetration.
This increases your physical defense by 50% when you use manually block. This also increases bonuses you get from using skills.
If you have the 50 Physical defense attribute from High Guard - It will also increase that 50 Physical defense by 50%.
A flat out 25% Block rating increase - The more block you have, the stronger this attribute becomes.
A flat out 18% Evasion rating increase when you have Guardian active - Which should be at all times, In my opinion.
The more evasion you have - the stronger this attribute becomes.
It adds a 25% chance to stun on one of your damage skills. Not very reliable -But I do not see any reason not to have this.
High Guard: Umbo Blow Speciality
If you are going to be using High Guard - You might aswell get some damage out of it - it is however not nearly as strong as it might seem.
After testing I have come to the conclusion it will ‘only’ increase the damage of your Umbo Blow by about 50% - Instead of the 230% it claims to.
Still no reason not to have this though.
High Guard: Rim Blow Speciality
You will want this if you have Rim Blow at level 6 - It will allow you to have an additional source of damage during High Guard.
This will do exactly as it states, Raise your Maximum HP by 25% - However your health will remain the same.
One interesting tid-bit is that if the 25% health buff falls off - The next Swash Buckling you cast will heal you for the excessive health you had before it did.
So say you are at 11,500/12,500 WITH the buff - and you fall back down to 10,000/10,000 - the next Swash Buckling you use will put your health back to 11,500/12,500. IF you have not taken damage of course.
A must have for tanking.
Special thanks to @FatePGN for pointing this out.
##Nice to have:
The 3 Piece bonus will net you 34 Health a point - While the 4 Piece bonus will net you about 1 Stamina every 3 Points. Not a lot, But still a very nice option to have once you have obtain your more urgent Attributes.
Good to have, especially at early levels - Be warned though, Using this ability will greatly reduce your Physical defense during the mid-levels, You might want to use Guardian over Gung Ho while tanking 10-15+ Monsters at the same time - or you will be taking large amounts of extra damage.
Just like Gung Ho you want to max this out as early as possible, The lower your level - the more powerfull this attribute is - It does however fall off greatly at higher levels.
A flat out 50 Physical Defense boost added to an already powerful defensive cooldown - It does cost quite a bit of silver to max, though.
One of your main offensive abilities - Especially powerfull when combined with the stagger damage bonus. This Attribute indirectly improves the High Guard: Umbo Blow Speciality attribute.
Langort does a lot of damage, because it hits 3 times. That makes it well worth the silver to boost up its damage by a bit.
##Situational or Perhaps a bit too expensive.
Thrust is a very nice filler against Pierce vulnerable targets - But it is useless against anything else.
1 Point for PvE - 3 Points for PvP?
I really like this attribute - However its knockback might be a tad bit too strong at rank 3, It will quite literally send enemies flying out of your vision range. Tends to frustrate DPSers who like their targets nicely bunched up.
As someone who has it at Rank 3 I tend to have it toggled off during 90% of my gameplay.
You can however be turned on and off whenever you want.
It might be good to get ~30 Points in this, But not a lot more untill you have silver to spare - Better off investing your silver in Butterfly & Langort.
##Dont even bother:
Everything having to do with Shield Lob.
##To be decided
I just… Have not managed to use this ability properly yet, I’ll try to figure out more about this in the future.
