I reached level 61 during the 3 days that I was able to play the iCBT. I played Wizard>Pyro>Psycokino.
This game focuses almost purely on grinding, with a few quests here and there to push you through. I’m okay with this, but there were a few times where I had to grind very ineffectively in order to get to a high enough level to grind at the next area. There was a HUGE gap in grinding locations during levels 55+ where I had to travel from Veja Ravine all the way to Akmen’s Ridge just to find a decent grinding location. The distance I had to travel and the number of new areas I had to go through was a bit much, and even after all of that, the level gap was still too high when I got there. It looks like a good chunk of the world wasn’t accessible during this iCBT, so I’m hoping that was the main cause of this particular situation, especially since I had to travel through a level 120+ area just to get there.
I love how there are some areas with a very high respawn rate, but low mob density, or spots with high mob density, but low respawn rate. There are also several variations of grinding locations based on how many small, medium, or large creatures there are in an area. One example of an interesting grinding location was Akmen’s Ridge where there were a ton of medium sized golems to grind. It was unique from all the other places I had grinded at previously, because they were quite a bit harder to kill than other monsters, but they had both fast respawn rates and a massive amount of density. I felt that I was actually able to use my abilities to their full extent for the first time, since Fireball pops just about everything instantly. I also think that it would be pretty fun to be able to grind somewhere that had almost purely Large monsters with a decent density and good respawn rate, if that doesn’t already exist.
There are a lot of people asking for more grinding locations, but I actually like that there aren’t a ton of places to grind at. Fewer grinding locations forces you to adapt to certain grinding themes, such as high density + low respawn. Since you don’t always have the option of going to an area where your abilities are most optimal, you have to adapt. Every time I found a good new grinding location, it would always be different from the previous one, requiring me to change up the methods I used to grind. This prevented leveling from becoming too stale, which I really expected would eventually happen while I was playing the beta.
I hope in the future more areas can be introduced at each set of levels to give us more options on where to grind at, but that won’t be necessary until AFTER we’ve all become completely bored of the current progression path, and making 10 alts that are level 50 doesn’t count!
