Gave up on tanking...need a DPS build

Reroll wiz3ele3wl2 or archer2ranger3SR3

I’m following patterns of builds that have been confirmed with Rank 7 and 8.

Every 3 full ranks, there’s a rank that doesn’t fit and you have to fill it with X class and then, they release a rank to fit your class. ( This may happen earlier or later ranks. )
Examples of this are :
Barbarian 3 (Filler = Rank2 aka Highlander,Pelt or Sw2)
Highlander 3 (Filler = Rank5 aka Barbarian,Sw2)
Hoplite 3 (Filler = Rank 6 aka Corsair,Fencer, Doppel)
Fencer 3 ( Filler = Rank 2 aka Pelt,Highlander or Sw2)
Cataphract 3 ( Filler = Rank 7 aka Dragoon, or Templar)
Corsair 3 ( Filler = Rank 2 aka Pelt, Sw2 or H2)

There’s synergies on each build, like :
Swordsman 3 - Cata 3
Barbarian 3 -Doppel 3
Hoplite 3 - Dragoon 3
Peltasta 3 - Squire 3
Barbarian 3 - Fencer 3
Highlander 3 - Doppel 3
Peltasta 3 - Rodelero 3
Hoplite 3 - Corsair 3
Sword3 - Barb3 - Shinobi

Templar and Shinobi are two classes that are hard to find synergies with, because it’s all about what skills can/will be used with Bunshin which can change if IMC allows more skills to be used with clones for Shinobi, and Templar is like… w/e, recaller purposes maybe?

Centurion is definitely NOT 1hsword-shield, there’s already Murmillo so no point releasing it that way. Centurion might be 1H Spear+Offweapon or 2H Sword.

Murmillo can wield spears and rapiers

IMC is making truly a “fantasy” game.

@GoldenCross Have you come to a conclusion? I’d like to know what you decided once you start your new char.

I was thinking if Hoplite is really needed for a PvP Dragoon build (since Dethrone range is huge and it has a low CD while Long Stride range is ok but CD is long). How about Pelt/Rode for manual block? I know it saves my life many times against physical enemies (archers, swordies, monks) while I’m holding a hook…

I have a SW3>Rode>Corsair and I’m considering going Doppel>Goon2. You could take barb c2 for Seism + Cleave + Cyclone if enemies get close or Dethrone is on CD.

I have a Plague doctor, a Reiter and i’m leveling a mage Support, my “Dream” in tos is to have all 4 classes…

I want to create a sword , but since my PD/Bokor is virtually Invincible with Mackandal, healing factor, Safety zone… even my MAGE with Transpose who get a ■■■■ Ton of HP may have more survivability … and i doubt a sword can outdamage my archer…

A’m not saying the classic “Swordsman suck”, but TOS Style of gameplay is fast and with lots of CC and support skills, basically every class can take care of themselves , some more, other less… making a sword’s Pure CON Tank very bad, and Murmillo didn’t impress me with the shield damage up,hope i’m wrong … :frowning:

Anyway, This is a video that was made by me today to show u Swordsmen filling the DPS role(to be honest I dont even need those cubes now and is overload with them, done with my 2x piece since 2 weeks+ ago…but still helping guildies getting them)

I purposely went with subpar party to showcast the ability of DPS swords.

The hyper offensive top PVE swordman class DOPPEL as main dps (NO PELT) alongside another ele3 wl and don’t have chronomancer in pt while carrying a fletcher for cubes, and the party is not full 280, is a mix of 260 and 270s.

Earth Tower 1F -5F
NO CHRONOMANCER
CARRYING A FLETCHER
MAIN AOE DPS CARRY= 1 ELE3 WL + 1 DOPPEL(str)
DIEV lvl 263

1x Diev PD(Lvl.263) - Heal/ OP statue
1x Ele 3 Warlock (Lvl.278) - Main AoE DPS
1x KinoCryo (Lvl.275) - CC Support
1x Ranger3 Fletcher3 (Lvl.280) - ???
1x Dupper-solder no Pelt(Lvl.280) - Main AoE DPS(str) - Leader

Normally this kind of PT will just fail =)) and laughable if mentioned to someone that follows the meta with Chronomancer and Warlocks =))

Not for us.

(I have other ET videos in the same channels too, like 3 of them doing with different party and the strongest 2x ele3 1x doppel 1x chrono 1 PDx party have 1 minute and 20 sec left on 1F lol)

I have lancer in mind actually, did some thinking and still came back to PVP as my source of enjoyment in this game and swordsmen are not needed in ET. Lancer has more room to grow instead of counting on a 1-trick pony like dethrone.

However, given yesterday’s patch not fixing TBL times properly for Telsiai, if they don’t get their act up in general i’m not sure if it’s worth starting a new character. IMC’s seriously destroying their own game if they can’t get TBL right. If they keep this up there might not be anyone left to PVP with by the time i get lancer…

Drg2 is slighly more versatile compared to lancer since it can kill in both melee and ranged assuming cata3 progression. Lancer is the 1 trick pony imo.

In the end, everyone is at the mercy of imc’s balancing tho.

Care to elaborate what Lancer’s 1 trick is? Because I see quite a few options from Lancer’s skills

Lancer is equivalent of Rod2 for Cata imo.

There seems to be a strong misconception of the utility following Barrier skill scroll. It’s only actively used in some of the floors, not all of them. You’re viewing videos of people doing 1-6/F. As I mentioned in other ET topics, having a tank shines the higher up you go. Having a good tank with high Pelt makes all energy gathering floors, all destruction floors, all protect floors, 15/F, and 20/F, significantly easier when planned correctly due to sheer mob density.

You use Barrier in those corners because it’s important to funnel enemies in DPS checks (1/F, 6/F, 11/F, 16/F) to a single spot. But for the numerous floors which involve moving around the field or kiting to keep clearance from objectives, a tank remains very useful, and highly undervalued.

If you’re dead set on DPS, then Dragoon is likely still the way to go, in a standard Hoplite - Doppel - Dragoon build, being able to deal plenty of damage in single target and decently in AoE. Lancer is a bit on the weaker side, though not absolutely horrid, it definitely may pale a bit compared to Dragoon.

I’m not a high level tank so I have no experience here. But wont PD2’s healing be good for the swordies? I’m considering a Pardoner > PD2 just to support the goon2’s that’ill want to have their debuffs extended and spread.

Is it really hopeless for a Murmillo with correct gear to face tank a bit with PD2 healing factor 10?

If you’re doing ET, unless you’re a full-on tank spec with good reduction gear, Healing Factor’s regeneration is not enough to allow you to face tank the mobs in there for more than a couple seconds, especially if you’re holding the aggro.

A tank’s ability to operate in ET has to do with their ability to pull aggro and kite without accidentally getting two-three shot. If a kiter dies, and aggro suddenly shifts to everyone else, it can be a little difficult to recover.

ic… So what you’re saying is… Bring two druids at R8 and stand in grass the whole time and have your party go full DPS.

And when you get to a floor with reversi let your dragoon kite it and occasionally throw spears at what’s behind him.

I’m not sure I’m bothered by that honestly. The healing is fairly one dimensional. Drop tiles… let tank step on them… Not really comparable to healing in a game like WoW were you’re spamming and managing mana and timers. If we did have straight face tanking… hrm… Would it be better? I mean it’d probably just be a guy standing there with his shield up. Don’t think the traditional trinity play was really developed well enough to support old school MMO tanking.

The problem with tanks is, literally it’s not necessary at all. All we have is taunt. We don’t bring any damage or group buffs to the team.

Get a CryoChrono wizard with some CON to run around and aggro. Full CON wizard can reach 40k hp as well. Between Cryo’s Frost Pillar, Chrono’s Pass and Krivis c3’s Melstis, it’s enough to keep enemies cc’ed until they get AOE’d down. Chronos have heaps of other useful buffs like haste and quicken whereas tanks don’t have anything remotely as useful. If I were making up a group for ET I’d much rather have a CryoChrono instead of a tank.

What’s worse is the new content past lv 280 just makes the current trend worse. Enemies hit even harder and even high HP tanks can’t take too many hits anymore. Murmillo’s helmet is pathetic at reducing damage taken, the “magic dodge” procs so little you hardly notice it.

@DeliciousCroissant You don’t face tank stuff in ET, you’ll just die. You drag and kite them around.

Yes, tank only useful skill is swash buckling. However, pelt and rodel have alot of def buff skill help to maintain aggro. Tank also will have alot knockdown utility skills to kite mobs from low hp party members.

The main reason tank is almost extinct is because the process of lvling is slow and painful. imo, knowing how the damage received, physical def and magic def formula work will make tank more valuable

Not really, if you’re a high CON you’re not doing much damage, the only skill to generate aggro is Swash Buckling.

In my guide here I explained that at end game, you NEED to do damage to maintain aggro: [Guide] Tanking, Murmillo and Rank 8
When Dragoons do 20k-30k damage per hit with Dethrone, try pulling enemies back with Swash Buckle level 15. Enemies literally ignore your swash buckling. They’re already starting to ignore it now with some archers I have in my team.

But since you can’t face tank enemies, you need to be constantly moving to drag them around. So you need to move AND do damage as a melee tank. It just doesn’t work in the end, the game design is flawed.

After reading your guide,i realise there is no such thing as semi-dps tank in tos  Even kabbalist merkabah want to steal tank role. Swordsman tank seems like a hardcore mode for elite players to reroll to

Get ton of dex and leather armor if u want to tank as swordman =)) then dig a hole if u see mage mob
