i can vouch for him cause im having the same issue,i dont think the client is on his end i think its the patcher itself,ive looked on the forums also and theres quite a few people with this issue along with us,ive also submited a ticket and the gm that replyed told me to do something ive already tried,this really is a pain in the neck. also the deleting the xml files worked when i first had this kind of issue 3-4 months ago,whenever i returned,so i tried these steps again and i still got the same issue,this all started happening yesterday for me. i really do hope the devs fix this soon,cause i wont lie,im rather quite angry this happened on my day off.

these 2 XML files fixed my issues., credits to hajikeman609
I looked in the folder as I was opening the game and it appears that after I added these 2 XML files the TOS folder created a Log client and user folder, so it appears that the steam install simply forgets to add these 2 XMLs on your initial download and so the TOS patcher gets an unannounced error upon not finding the settings it’s looking for.
Added these 2 folders. STILL isnt working. Why is this game so hard to play?
Still hasnt worked. Threw those 2 folders into the release folder and nothing. What else can I do?
Im just give up, i tried to return to this game, but doesnt have any support, any emergencial maintenance, i give up before even start the game

here it worked just this way, by downloading these two files and pasting them into
C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Steam \ steamapps \ common \ TreeOfSavior \ release

I have just downloaded the game yesterday and tried all info provided here, youtube and everywhere and none works. im like 90% about o give up on this game. anyone got new options I can try?
This fixed the issue for me. I’ve found what usually happens is my user settings get changed (usually from a patch) and it wants to launch the game full screen. My graphics card does not like that. So I adjust my user settings to run windowed, but sometimes, the game just wants to ignore steam settings and go by user file. So downloading a working config like this works great. I also saved copies in another file of known working versions of my user settings. I’d recommend this to anyone who has this issue. Download these 2 files as stated, and then once your game is running the way you like (adjust settings as you see fit), back them up!
