GAE BULG... Are the devs aware of how bad it is? (Ideas to buff/rework Gae Bulg?)

Why is Hoplite’s 0CD Spear Throw so much better than the 30CD Gae Bulg?

I hope the devs are aware and working on something to fix gae bulg soon.

  1. It should be a charge-able skill just like doomspike/earthwave.
  2. It should not throw YOUR SPEAR away, instead:
  3. You should actually conjure the real “Gae Bulg” into your hands and throw it, not throwing your own spear away and have to pick it up after
  4. An additional attribute which adds a “cage/prison/arena-like” effect to the already existing buff field attribute. Enemies will not be able to leave the field of effect… (Kind of like Jarvan’s ULT from LoL)

I think Gae Bulg should’ve been what Dethrone was. I really lmao at the devs making 3 similar skills that involve throwing Spears.

I’m still hoping for a Final Fantasy-like jump skills for Dragoons, even though I know it’s probably never gonna happen since they stick to the realism of the classes.

Well in reality, dragoon were mounted infantry who used swords and firearms, not spears (basically non-finish Hackapell)…

They’ve gone FF version dragoon so they’ll most likely add a jump skill (that may or may not be better than long stride).

What I mean in realism is that they tend to avoid giving “magical” looking skills to Swordsman and Archer. They try to make it as realistic physically as much as possible . We haven’t had any Getsuga Tenshou looking skills :joy:

Now that you mention it… Yeah I just realize there is not really any “flashy” skills for Dragoons. I think I kinda got it mixed up with Maplestory’s “Dragon Knight”… Since they use spears as well and I always thought Dragoon had anything to do with Dragons…

But still, Dragoon C3 at least deserve something flashily awesome and R10 deserves a hidden class Dragon Knight for Dragoon C3 which transform him into a dragon. lol

I think dethrone is pretty flashy lol.

To me it simply looks like a normal spear throw. Maybe can’t really see clearly from videos on youtube until I try it myself… Infact, I think dethrone could have been named gae bolg instead.

It has a wide arc tho I wouldn’t call it mid range. But it still uses brute force, makes you kinda look like Guts swinging his sword. Nothing “magical” or fancy in it.

The sound it makes is really dam heavy. I think that’s what it makes it flashy lol.

What’s ‘magical looking’ about jumping and then attacking?

But I do see what you mean as well.

Wheel is just a vertically inclined faster spinning BroomTrap, what makes it flashy is the rapid hits it does when you hit it, GodSmash is just a glorified Smite with a larger effects and chainable with 3 OH.

Hogma Capt.'s better looking farther reaching AA makes Zwercchau look like a cheap knockoff.

Swordies having flashy looking skills to me are

Sw’s
-DS- 2 shiny two hit sword swipe trails
Pelt’s
-UmboBlow- despite having low damage, there’s a slight dust cloud created during and after the rotation, and the full knockback distance testaments to how much centrifugal force is applied.(wow physics)
HL’s
-Moulinet- it’s renewed multi-slash light effects(Rendel and Zucken uses it’s
slightly faster old animation)
-Skyliner- Similar to DS but with single a narrow light blueish effect trail
-SkullSwing*- special mention due to the satisfying ‘hard object hitting thick slab of metal’ clanging sound when the skill/armorbreak connects.(kinda like when LKs successfully parry a G-Fist in Ro, that satisfying feeling)
Barb’s
-Cleave- a red crescent version of skyliner(the character doing a full roundhouse sword slash makes it feel like it’ll cut deep, looks realy nice imo)
Hop’s
-LongStride- FF series Jump(@ZeroFoxGiven 's PvP thread has a amazing gif to showcase this)
Cata’s
-EW- large shockwave aoe with a redish light epicenter
Rod’s
-ShieldTarge- it fricking cracks/breaks any ground(even with a wooden shield lol)
Fencer’s
-Sept/Esquive- rose petals scattering with each hits
Dopp’s
-Punish:Earthquake- Dopp’s knockoff of Wiz’s Earthquake with a slightly wider aoe
Shinobi’s
-Bunshins- light piercing through smoke effects with cherry blossom petals scattered
Goon
-Dethrone- high speed spear throw with sonicboom and dust trails
Murm
-FrenzySlash- their version of LongStride

Let’s be honest, reason why Swordie skills aren’t all flashy is to keep some odd ‘realism’(kinda how Rapiers dur. low) of rustic ‘Swordsmen’ not some chinese levels of Wuxia/Xianxia power fantasy.

And the reason why there’s no magic based swordsman class is because, Revelators with a mighty sword arm and abundant magic are devout believers that are favored by the Goddesses. Simply put, they’re all in the Cleric class tree.


OT, I’d want GaeBolg to have it’s aoe melee buff/debuff amped up/ be more useful, currently it’s on the level of DoubleSlash or JollyRoger’s(pre ktos patch) atk buff, low and flat.

I guess its the lack of proper term. Maybe I should’ve used flashy instead. Like I said they are trying to keep it as realistic as much as possible.

Nobody could jump like that in reality with all the heavy armor. I’m just missing all those special effects in other MMOs.

I want it to transform into a Lightning-type land deployment AoE

Yes! Throw it and the spot it lands on will strike pierce damage continously!

Not even sure if I want to add gale bog to 1pt… =_= better off maxing dragon tooth or dragon soar?

well you can save that 1pt, just in case it gets a rework. But if you’re keen to spending it I’d say Dragontooth.
