Finding and Leveling Normal Gems (Blue, Green, Red, Yellow) đź’–

Simple, straightforward guide. http://wiki.tosbase.com/wiki/Gems and http://www.tosguide.net/2016/05/tree-of-savior-gem-types-bonuses-and-exp.html already exist, but thought I’d write something to supplement that (or at least a more newbie friendly one).

Facts

  • Socketing (an equipment, so you can put the gem on it) is available at any town blacksmith NPC. Socketing cost increases per socket added i.e. 2nd socket cost more than 1st socket (same applies to unsocketing). Socketing an equipment also decreases its potential by 1 per socket. Zero (0) potential equipments cannot be socketed.

IMPORTANT: Before inserting a gem in an equipment socket, please have it “roasted” first by alchemists you usually find in towns. Price goes around 9.5k, at least in Telsiai (may vary from server to server). Just click on their shop, drag the gem into the roasting window and wait for the roasting to finish (it takes a few seconds). Roasting a gem will remove its negatives effects/attributes to a point.

  • Gems are (currently) untradeable (player-to-player, team storage) - but can be socketed first on an item that can then be traded

  • Gems reduces by one (1) level when unsocketed/removed from item. Level one (1) gems (and monster gems) are destroyed during unsocketing.

  • Gems drop on death. Can be picked up again after being immediately revived (via Soul Crystal [cost 4TP at TP Shop], via resurrection) or running back from save point before loot expires. Can not be picked up by other players.

Where to find

All 4 gem types (if I’m right) will be available to you as soon as you start doing quests and/or opening chests in the Crystal Mines area (level 16). You can also do the party quest in Fedimian merc post.

Besides that, you can also farm for them.

The following areas/monsters where I usually find them in abundance:

  • Red gem = Vubbe Miner in Crystal Mines 1F [lv.16] (high spawn in area is District 2, right as you pass the 1st purifier where you have a quest to hunt down Vubbe Miners with question mark on head)

  • Blue gem = Stone Orca in Crystal Mines 1F [lv.17] (high spawn in southeast of map, start on District 5 up to the bridge before District 6)

  • Green gem = Lizardman in Goddess’ Ancient Garden [lv.99] (high spawn in mid-north or something northeast where you can go around, you’ll know when you get there)

  • Yellow gem = haven’t really tried farming for it but you have a lot of options here http://www.tosbase.com/database/items/643504/ (just check for ones you can easily kill on your level as well as having a decent spawn rate)

Some tips from our fellow saviors:

How to level

Here’s a table of EXP required per gem level:

Loots give different amount of exp per piece. Here are a few that I know:

  • Regular loots (e.g. Vubbe token, rabbee fur, etc.) = 5 exp

  • Talt = 100 exp

  • Monster/boss card = 100 exp

  • Monster gem = 7550 exp

  • Equipments = equal to its item level

  • Normal gems = equal to the exp of its current level (e.g. level 1 will give 100 exp, level 2 will give 300 exp, etc.) regardless of how much exp it already has to reach the next level

  • Gem abrasives = depends on the abrasive’s level. These are untradeable and can only be obtained via monster drop and/or quests (?). Lv.1 I think gives 2500 exp.

NOTE: You can’t feed it with consumables, arrows, wood or other skill consumables.

Farming for mats to feed the gem seems to be the easiest way to level it. Here are locations/practices that I do which you can adapt as well:

  • Dina Bee Farm - great if you can find a party or can go solo without being outfarmed. The bees almost always drop stingers/furs.

  • Crystal Mine 1F - if you have a companion than can 1 or 2-shot Vubbe Miners and Bats here, better. Leave your pots and other heavy stuff on storage for more free weight, bring the gem with you, and just position yourself in the middle of District 2. If there are other players AFK-ing there already, check on other channels. Vubbes Miners also drop red gems which is 100 exp a piece and Vubbe Miner gem gives 7500 exp if you’re lucky to get one. You’ll usually be 100% weight at around 3-4 hours of AFK-ing so always check on it every once in a while (you can enhance the gem while you’re there). Of course it’d be faster if you don’t AFK.

  • AH/Market - if you have silver to spare, buy the cheapest misc loot you can find in bulk to feed the gem.

Great guide!
Just want to add that Pavaisa in Shaton Farm has a 100% drop rate of gems (random color).

There’s also a chest in 2nd Demon Prison that gives 5 gems (random color). Requires a bit of searching… here’s a vid.

Thanks, added to post.

You can also solo party quests.

  • Create a party.
  • Talk to Receptionist Niam
  • If you did not receive one of these 2 quests, Leave your party and start over.
    • The Disappearance
    • The Enemy’s Smell
  • Complete the party quest to receive a Sparkling Cube
    • This cube can contain 3, 4, 5, or 10 random colored gems or occasionally a fun subweapon like 5kg Dumbell, Defeated Flag, Vuvuzela, Bubble Wrap, or Snow Flower Spray

You can do other party quests, but those 2 listed are the fastest. They all have the same reward.

As you suggest to afk grind with pet… Do you have any official feedback about what is allow and what is not ?
I mean: you will not have any issue like been reported as bot and get banned ? What about afk auto attack instead of pet ?

By pet I mean companions from companion NPC or guilds (and soon TP shop).

Some players (especially envious ones) will flag you as bot. If it gets to the point where IMC has to review your account, they shouldn’t have any reason to ban you because you did not do anything that violates their terms of service, unless of course you were doing something else sketchy.

AFAIK what’s bannable is using abusive addons (e.g. autopot) and 3rd party software (eg. bots) that allows the player to do things beyond what the game can provide or allows.

Companions rely on their AI, something native to the game.

As for AFK-AAing, I think IMC already has given their stance on it through official announcement (news) and forum replies: it depends, they will review the account first.

I would like to add that those who are higher level can complete the Tomb Mini Cube minigame at Kadumel Cliff.

https://tos.neet.tv/zones/1781

You can complete this minigame up to a maximum of 4 times a day per character. You can get either Basic/Intermediate/Advanced(?) Gem Abrasives. I’m not 100% sure on Advanced as I’ve only ever gotten Basic and Intermediate.
