Just note that it’s unknown what rank they will eventually be.
The developers have said it might be Rank 7 but it is subject to change.

The main reason Barbarian is still OP is not about the old buffs Flange and Warcry anymore. It’s about the 3 new skills, Cleave / Helm Chopper / Seism.
They all have huge damage for a rank 3 class and pretty low cooldown with Overheat.
Helm Chopper and Seism can stun and they hit a big area, especially Seism.
Cleave buffs you with +50% crit rate after use for 5 seconds with 2 charges before going into cooldown, giving you good short bursts of damage.
Also the main point is that there is no weapon restrictions to this class. This works well with whatever weapon you are planning to hold in the future. Considering we don’t know what weapon restrictions there are with Shinobi, Dragoon, Murmillo or Templar, this is huge. People don’t realise this enough.
I didn’t know Cleave could be used twice, thats 50% uptime compared with 25% which is a nice boost. I feel like CC isnt that much of a big deal since its so easily acquired, but its still something nice that Hoplite dosen’t. I still think Hoplite is stronger overall but Barb might be better suited to PvP, with its shorter buffs and stuns.
Are there any videos on Seism? I’ve been looking but haven’t been able to find any…
…I also had no idea it stuns either. If it’s an AOE Stun that does as much damage as it says it does…
It is an AoE stun at a high probability (it may say low, but I almost nearly always stun).
The AoE is in a cone shape in front of you, upto 3 tiles(?).
Fencer is more focused on DPS than Hoplite, who serves as a DPS/Tank hybrid. Also, remember that Dragoon is on its way, which will give more options to spear users. Fencer is limited to rapiers, making it a very niche class, as far as we can tell.
negative on that, Fencer is more focus as evasion freak.
barbarian are still king of raw damage, though not as powerful as cbt1
I was comparing Hoplite and Fencer. Barbarian had nothing to do with it. Obviously, if you include the other classes in the mix, it changes things. Also yes, I forgot to include evasion, which is a great point. Thank you for bringing it up.
Hoplite’s Finestra decreases evasion for an increase to block and crit rate, meaning that for all the similarities between these two classes, they have quite different approaches to combat.
My plan into getting Corsair C2 to get double weapon assault and Fencer at Rank 7 is gone ;_;
Can someone explain double weapon assault though?
I know it links the subweapon hit with the basic attack but, does that means you have to press 1 button instead of two (Kinda lame) or it makes both attacks hit faster?
how bout getting 15/15 pierce on hoplite and use Attaque Coquile before pierce cause it ignores pierce resistance
You have spear lunge on hoplite that level 1 will do a 6sec debuffs to monsters it touch (by 70-80% chance i think from the low chances of the debuff failling) that you can use twice that will reduce the resistance to your piercing attacks. (Double the damage of your auto attacks, and piercing type skills).
but the cool down on spear lunge is higher than Attaque Coquile and Attaque ignores pierce resistance not just lowers it?
Well i dunno how much it boost your damage with attaque coquille, but spear lunge buff will double your damages. So maybe it’s the same but coquille has less cooldown.
Only thing is that only two skills of hoplite can be used with every weapons : Stabbing and Pierce, all the others skills are spears-type only skills. So except by switching between rapier and spear, you wouldn’t be abble to use hoplite and fencer as efficient as you could by having the two of them in the same build. (Sincer Fencer is a rappier only build)
Well it depends on how you see it. My idea was to jump to Fencer from a 3-circle Hoplite. Where Fencer’s Pierce bonus from Aggressive Rapier Mastery will further solidate the DMG output from Stabbing (and the lesser-used Piercing except for Boss Battle)
I would love the idea of starting with Attaque Coquille to lower enemy pierce defense before combining with continuous thrusting from Stabbing to Sept Etoiles and follow if fighting at least a medium enemy, to finalize with Piercing.
I am not adept at the art of DPS but at least the concept sounds good to me, CBT for me is to test out the viability of these said builds, so that we can all avoid those detours when the game official opens and moves on to OBT!
cept Fencer skills only work with Rapier
and Hoplite skills only work with spear excluding 3 and one only works if you have a shield
You lose th Fencer buff if you equip a shield…
Yup Fencer buff must equip only the Rapier. As for the skills, not sure why (logic-wise) but Stabbing and Piercing had no required stance, meaning these 2 skills CAN be used with Rapier.
However for players obsessed with Crit buff, they will have to say goodbye to Finestra and on a lesser chance that lots of people will miss it, the Synchro Thrusting.
For the latter group of players, let’s hope Dragoon will be their eventual saving grace. =|
Actually as a Fencer IRL I am probably one of the most qualified to answer this.
A Fencer only uses 2 weapons, Rapiers and Sabers, did you ever notice the odd names for Fencer skills?
they are all Fencing stances, Fencing is meant to be an agile type of sword play and in actual Fencing (not the sport)
these stances give different advantages in combat so switching stances on the fly makes this style very unpredictable and able to switch to fit the situation.
This is why if you watch anyone who actually knows what they are doing when Fencing it looks like they are dancing, Que the Fencer normal attacks with all the fancy twists and spins and what not.
they did a lot of research on how Fencing used to be when it was an actual style of combat and not what it has become today.
anyway why would you go C3 Hoplite for 2 skills, that you get at c1?
lunge increases slash dmg, might be smarter to use a class with a lot of slashes, like Highlander.
Highlander also has armor break
irnoring pirce resistance is only good on enemies that have pierce resistance in the first place, which are cloth armor enemies (this is what logically does not make since, Piercing should be weak to plate armor not cloth.
@xechidna
hey as a practitioner of Fencing can you rally unto IMC these ideas

https://forum.treeofsavior.com/t/suggestion-ver-2-fencer-gap-closer/61062
#particularly a GAP CLOSER and a DISENGAGE skill to be added for the class
No that would make the class mandatory to build and i like being one of few fencers out there.
A disengage would be nice, but a Disengage AND a gap closer is too much.
even still in actual Fencing you do not always work to close gaps, fencing is about dodging and/or countering when the enemy makes their strike.
in most cases you let the enemy come to you, fencing is about disengaging and engaging.
you only close gaps when you have an opening.
so in theory YES it should have both, but i don’t want it to have both.
because fencer will be a required class for swordies then.
