Fencer to overshadow Hoplites?

Dude I’m not sure what you’re smoking but Hoplites cannot wield Sword + Spear together. They either use 1H Spear + dagger or 1H Sword + dagger (in which case you’d lose out on Finestra buff plus heaps of skills that require spears to use).
And where can you get Slash damage from Hoplite?
Btw Fencer’s Flanconnade does Slash damage, PLUS it has 0 cooldown:

(translate it with google translate)

Yes and the cooldown is 8 seconds, much better than Spear Lunge’s 24 second cooldown…

This is the one point that I agree on,
Unless Esquive Toucher allows you to avoid magic attacks…but even then it’s got a 30 sec cooldown

If this was IMC Granado Espada…fencer final stance they are anti-mage.

Rapiere Stance - http://ge.jupath.me/GranadoEspadaUSA-Jobs-Karjalainen.html#Rapiere

Ropera buff increase magic evasion by 75%

at over level Ropera gives 82% magical evasion.

rapiers there also deals more damage to cloth armor.

Unfortunately it is not, and magical evasion is not a thing in ToS.

Nope. Esquive Toucher:

Not a gap closer, it has none atm (perhaps circle 2?).

Also lunge isn’t that great. Lunge:

Really doesn’t make sense to compare fencer and hoplite, especially with the rank differences, and the ability to pick up both.

Edit, I’ll save everyone some trouble and post the other skills too. Sept Etoiles:

Attaque Coquile:

Flanconnade:

I’m liking the way it holds a shield.

So damn classy…And so many hits with their attacks. Lordy.

Well, if I were to grab Pierce damage somewhere in my build, I’d much rather get it from Fencer rather than Hoplite or Cataphract. That was the whole point of me making this thread btw.

Is it possible to try Esquive Toucher on a monster to see if you can avoid damage during the Esquive Toucher attack animation?

Also as I understand, Lunge isn’t used for damage but rather the increase in evasion & Slash damage resistance. Can you confirm how much evasion it gives?

Lucky for you there’s more than one reason to pick a class, it doesn’t have to be just pierce damage.

I can avoid damage when using Esquive toucher animation, but it’s not 100%. It won’t evade magic at all (tested against a player, wizard), and just boosts my eva during the animation. (tested against monsters of my level, and higher)

Yeah the stance, the classiness and costume is alone to make me really want to go fencer, but I’m not digging the damage/skills so far. If circle 2 is as good as it seems, then I think I’ll definitely pick it up.

By how much please? Numbers talk.

It lists all skill info there, 10% per level. That’s 10% of my eva. Kinda an eva tank? But sadly eva swordies don’t work well in PvP :frowning: great for PvE though!

Lol my bad once again ;;& Actually if u go with Corsair you can at least uses some of Hoplite skills and u can wield Sword and dagger…

Yes but it eats 88 sp and it does not have AoE Attack Ratio: 3 like spear lunge… Yeah its good for bosses but not good when u are killing mobs…

Definitely noticeable then. At level 10 (rank 7) it gives 100% evasion, essentially doubling your evasion.
I think Fencer requires you to put some points in DEX to your build to really make it shine, it’s just how this class is designed.
If you’re going to go STR + CON and no DEX, don’t bother going Fencer IMO. Stick to Hoplite and get your crit from Finestra since it gives a flat value.

sempai has video link?

Yup you definitely need DEX to shine, with STR to boost the crit dmg as well, or CON.

Problem is, that’s not viable in PvP, because magic goes right through DEX, HP is your only defense, which requires CON.

Not to mention rapiers seem to have low damage, and don’t have a damage range like other weapons, just a flat damage number.

That’s at level 15 (which is like rank 8, still very far away).
Currently at Attaque Coquile at level 5 costs 47 SP and does 1388 damage.
Spear Lunge at level 10 (max) costs 42 SP and does 803 damage.

Yes but Spear lunge is Aoe… Attaque coquile is for single target.

Fencer

Good

  • Very Low CD
  • Strong damage skills

Bad

  • Very high Sp cost
  • Rapier has low damage
  • Lack of Aoe

shinobi might get coolers skills and leave me in a dilema

as of this moment im more leaning on gameplay of cataphract mobility + AoE damage, but prefer fencer costume

Fencer looks like he does not give a ■■■■

Honestly, I feel like fencer is pretty underpowered, and needs some charges. Flanconnade is pretty underwhleming. Circle 2 skills might change things entirely, but we’ll have to wait and see.

I attempted full dex to get nearly 100% crit rate, and use the evasion to my advantage, but it just wasn’t worth even for PvE.

Hopefully there will be better rapiers and some changes to fencer.

Another alternative might be to build STR + DEX + SPR, since fencer eats SP fast with these low cooldown skills. SP will help a little with the magic attacks in PVP.

I think the best class to support Fencers is Barbarians. Big AOE range to support fencer’s lack of AOE and Cleave’s crit plus Warcry to lower enemy defense and increase your crit.

It might feel underwhelming now due to lack of the skill Preparation, which should help boost damage overall.
Fencers by itself isn’t that good, pair it up with a Barbarian and see the difference
