English in not my native language and I like to write alot, so I apologize for some hard-to-understand long boring and grammatically wrong sentences
This feedback relates my feelings and impressions toward the game, expressed as a gamer and lover of ToS’s kind of games, and is made for the players who couldn’t go to beta and reassure them
About me : Hello, I am Savon, gone Barbarian level 45 on this beta, and I will try to answer some questions people were asking :
First impressions :
Woah… just woah… This game is really something, and I foresee a great future for it, this is why :
-
Controls on gamepad are just perfect, lets you bash through mobs with fluidity and precision. Very instinctive, for those who were reluctant to action oriented controls fear not, it works perfectly.
-
The Art Design of the game is magical : The graphics, the music…my god the music…it just blends perfectly and gives you a wonderful game atmosphere ! Add to that the sound and effects of hitting an enemy, which is just enough to feel powerful and crushing your enemies, but not enough to disturb the gameplay. Fighting in this game is awesome.
-
The different quests, at least for the beginning, are deeper than just “find X things, kill Y things”, it blends very well with the bashing, and don’t feel boring at all. Quests feel very rewarding (exp cards o) and make you explore the entire area, just what we want.
-
Skills are more deep than expected, with the attribute system, which could be the reason you’d choose a circle rather than another. This gives you the possibility to personalize the gameplay deeper as you grow in the game, but didn’t go far enough to see if there were cons for this, or at which extend you can upgrade your abilities.
-
Group gameplay is at the center of the game. You have to group to survive some areas, to grind, to summon some special bosses that loot cosmetics… Easy to form, easy to manage, gives you the opportunity to socialize (I think I spoke more in 1 week of beta than mounth of other “online and multiplayer” games…). The game doesn’t mess with the MMO aspect of it, and that my friends is a very good point for this type of game and games in general.
What I really liked :
Other than what listed above, it’s the small details that make a great game :
- Interactive objects that makes you summon a boss? Check.
- Recipes that makes you farm some components? Check.
- Some interactive objects you don’t know what they are and take 10 minutes to conclude that you will come back later and try some other things? Check.
- Sensation of power when hitting things? Much loots ? Check.
- The ability to summon a boss on a low level area when you’re a full group? With that boss being attackable by everyone in the map and looting a lot of cosmetics? CHECK DOUBLE CHECK THAT’S AWESOME.
- Crowded capital? Check.
- Crowded maps? Check. With the possibility to switch to less populated channels. Check.
- Servers stabilities? Only a few disconnections, quick maintenances? Check
Of course it was a beta, with low exp and progression, but still, there are people in this game and you know it.
What could be changed :
Group limit : Why limit it to five people? I hope party number will be increased later in the game, that high level areas where five people are not enough to survive will exist : the game has a strong multiplayer background, make it even more.
Exp range limit : Monsters must be on your screen for you to get their exp. No splitting in the map, loss of exp when you are in the wrong place/ wrong moment of the farm spot, obligation to follow the mass of your group… Pretty annoying IMO
Toolboxes of skills not precise enough, it’s pretty obscure to know exactly the benefits of a skill without taking it, and impossible to know what will increase when leveling it. It can be due to traduction that still needs some polishing, but could become a problem at circle 6 or above, when after weeks of leveling you have to burn a skill point to be sure you didn’t miss a good skill.
=> A training room in your lodge, where you can test all combinations you want on some dummies?
The exp rate :
This made a lot of fuss, and still obscure as to what will the rates really will be. Here are my two cents as to
why the “grinding cap” should be increased to circle 3 class 4.
It’s purely a question of players being hooked , and making them addict to the game. The problem is player experience; currently the grind breaks totally the player in his run-up.
You begin the game, get a hold on the mechanics, kill your first mobs, love it. You feel powerful, enjoy seeing these little furballs (or plantballs) explode under your hits. Then the story begins, you’re told about Vubbes, need to save a village, begin to be a hero.
You enter the mines, realize you already have to team-up at level 12, love the game even more. Players all love it, talk about how they like it, advance in the mine together. Everything’s fine. You can even change class during the mines, get some more skills, improve the ones you actually have.
But yet you still feel like beginning the game, and classes are pretty still the same. You look forward more classes, more skills. You finish the mine, understand what your real mission is: The real game begins. “I have to get stronger to vanquish my enemies !”. You’re at full speed, encounter a powerful enemy, have to chase it. Still circle 2.
And then you get exterminated by a monster way above your level. You have to grind for more hours to get circle 3. Run-up ended, you’re all cold and sweaty, and that’s when a lot of the first players will give up.
Several factors :
You don’t know the existence of blue mobs, imagine only normal mob’s exp will do it, fell it will take ages. I agree that with them and intense grind, it’s not that long to get circle 3, but hey, I really hated the chapel because I was frustrated not to be able to advance to circle 3. You should be able to get to circle 3 during chapel, without forcing that much on the grind.
Why? Because the first two circles represent 12 classes, but with similar gameplays between circle 1 and 2 for each branch. I got the feeling of grinding with swordman, clerics, archer and wizard, more than with priests, cry/pyro, hunter… (Only higlander is kinda unique both in skin and skills). The animations and kills displayed were similar and not too diverse.
Then I went to grind with circle 3 characters : more diversity, more uniqueness of each class, way more fun to grind. Let us get circle 3, class level 4 (to have the skills), and then make us grind. Before that it’s just a pain in the neck, and I think you don’t want the players to be repelled by some not-so-fun aspect when what comes next is way more fun. What’s dangerous for the game is players coming to the conclusion that classes are the same, and don’t feel like advancing where they could’ve seen how unique classes become after circle 3. And even if they love grinding, could come to the wrong conclusion that the game has a bad grinding.
Personally I know that in the current state, I’d have a way easier time to convince my friends to keep playing the game if they don’t have to grind before circle 3.
In conclusion : My advice, let the players be baited until circle 3, then begin the serious business. We have the time to struggle with the next 400 levels to come.
What I wonder:
At higher levels, will there still be one area to grind, with every area in the game having a different level range, or will some areas be at the same level, in order to diversify the grind?
Blue mobs are good, when you actually kill some. Will they stay here or be changed? More quests to come to grind? Cuz quests are fun in this game
Blue mobs could be replaced by quests like “kill 400 mobs” and the reward will be the same exp than would give a blue mob (if blue mob pop rate is about 1/400), in order to make it farmable dependant, not RNG dependant.
Global conclusion :
I love the game. Of course there is room for improvement, but as for now it’s already dope. Don’t fear my former Ro players, the feelings are the same with this game. You gotta love it, or love it.
Feel free to ask some questions, or criticize my development (for the exp aspects, only tell if/when we got new elements, enough debate threads already :p) or share your feelings, I got plenty Hug ammo on my hugmachine or cookies. Because everyone loves cookies.
See ya, Savon <3
